YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED A VOICE SAMPLE OR DEMO OR ELSE!!!
Phew. Glad that's over with.
Anyways, I need ONE MORE voice for my "Spaced Out!" series. Same rules as before, you must send me an audition. The character I need is Stan, a freaky anthropomorphic cat. I'm looking for any voice, really. YOU MUST BE WILLING TO DO THIS EVERY EPISODE. THIS WILL BE A LONG-RUNNING SERIES.
To audition for this part, send me an e-mail at marionluigi@hotmail.com with this audition line:
"I can't go to jail!! You know what they do to people like me?!"
grim_studios - Excellent work, dude. Can't wait to see how it all plays out on the big screen. ;)
Kagome: Really good job recording yourself! I'm impressed. A huge step up from the jambox-playing-in-background song you did the other day. As far as singing higher with more power... just gotta practice. Don't hurt yourselt too much, but the more you do it the more you'll expand your range. And when you're singing along with another vocal track, listen to yourself more that the original, otherwise it's easier to get out of tune. It's actually EASIER to sing to just an instrumental track.
Bezo: That. Was. Hilarious.
Seriously, and all because of your story. Otherwise it's just weird operatic singing making no sense. But I want to see you flesh this out into tru Wagner grandiocity... 23.5 hours of non stop dwarven singing!!
I have been fighting the urge to put this up for some time. But I just can't do it anymore with all you's all posting these singin' stuffs. So, here it is:
OK, all done. Filled up the spot in less than an hour! A new personal best! Thanks for the auditions.
Most opera doesn't make sense unless you know the story beforehand.
hey everyone im finally going to be able to post my first flash in awhile so beware andyways i decided to cut the mr nice guy episodes in half so there will be 12 episodes there was originally supposed to be 24 episodes but there will be twelve now since not too many people are into love storys (damn it) so i just wanted to let everyone know especially my voice actors for this flash which are
Kagome: Samantha
Zodiak (think thats how its spelled): Rick
Oh and by the way if you two wanna know the secret of this flash just ask me and ill tell you so later

Sorry. ^^;
i loved the original movie though. It was hillarious...

Yay! You're a trendsetter. *lol*
Acually, i already have one song up on NG...

It's an old one... really, really repetitive, but i like it still.
more old stuff are on SoundClick

Planning to re-record and make an actual Demo CD.
I am working on a Mach movie (machinima) for Morrowind and it is a spoof of MTV cribs, i need 2 voice actors. A cauckasian (hopefully spelled right) male 13-20 that can act like a wigger and make people laugh.
Also someone with a good talk show/narrating voice.
Send all demo's to coconut_ddd@hotmail.com and add me as well.
FULL CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN
You all talk far too often.
Kagome: It could be that the high notes you're trying to hit are just not in your range. You have to be careful not to hurt yourself. If it hurts, you probably shouldn't do it.
Yeah, trying to hit notes out of your range is the fastest way to put yourself out of commission vocally. Well besides doing really loud reverse phonation.
sorry i missed so much guys. been so fukin busy, it's insane.
i got a couple of major parts in other people's projects elsewhere, and hope to help out Philljc, as soon as i make a new demo, which i hope to do soon.
in any respects. i still wonder about u guys but am busy and have HW out my ass.
just a check in.

Yeah probably...except I can go into high ranges when voice acting [as I'm sure you all have observed] and it doesn't hurt at all x_x So...I don't know.

In regards to high notes... belting them might not be a good idea, especially if you haven't trained to project correctly. (o.O;;;
i've heard there's a technique where you mix your head voice (usually sounds thin and light and ...choir-y ^^;; ) with your chest voice (voice you use to belt with) that'll result in producing a nice projected high note.
Only, i've never succeeded in doing so, so i can't tell you if it's a surefire thing or not. (x.X:;
i'm an alto, actually, and when i hit the high notes i use my head voice and bring my mic very close to my mouth. *lol* Only problem is, there's such a difference in head/chest voice it's really hard to bear... (;_; i'd also like advice on how to expand my range...
i wish i knew what to suggest to you... ^^; i guess gradually expand your chest-voice range by practicing? But don't hurt yourself. Also, it's not very healthy for your vocal chords to stress the beginnings of vowels. (i hope that makes sense...) For example, instead of singing "Ah," put a very subtle breath almost like "hAh" and it won't strain your glands as much. i learned this in Chorus at college...
Hope that helped somewhat. (x.X;;;
I find that the best way to discover a singing range is take singing lessons. ^_^ I thought I was both a poor singer and someone who could sing nothing but low notes until I took lessons. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I'm actually a Soprano with talent. =P
Good lord, haven't been in here for a while! :P I've been going out alot more often these days since we've been having beautiful weather this whole week. Nothing like nice long walks to clear your mind and fresh air doesn't hurt too ;)
Isca: I never got to say, "Welcome back!" so ... welcome back! (Welcome Back Kotter Theme Plays)
Welcome back,
You're dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back,
To the same old things that we laughed about.
Wow ... tired.

Has the Voice Acting Club suddenly been turned into the Singing Club? @_@;
Seriously, though. To all who posted up their singing clips and whatnot: those were awesome! (I especially liked Frogs' and Aimi's) We're an awfully talented bunch, aren't we? Hmm, maybe I'll post a short singing clip in a while. Nothing too fancy though; maybe just a quick recording of me singing over some song. I really don't have the patience (or time) right now to mix a recording and a song together, make sure timing's right, etc. I'm lazy like that.
And regarding 'the hitting those high notes advice', I would agree with what Isca had said. Because she's the besterest. <3
In Japan, you can't be a voice actor unless you can sing. ;)
So it's good to keep in practice.

Voice Acting and Singing (when it comes to range) are actually very very different, if you've ever tried singing in a character voice I think you'll see what I mean, because it's all about placement.
I took private voice lessons for 4 years and this Chest Voice/Head voice thing was something me and my teacher worked on for a while, so I'll give a stab at saying what has helped for me (though it may not be whats wrong for you).
When it is time to hit higher notes, we as singers tend to freak out a bit, because we don't want our voices to crack or sound bad, and the place we put the note tends to fall back too. Into the back of your throat. Where you need to place the sound is in the middle of your head, possibly even closer to your nose, this will 1) help get rid of the "light airy-ness" you speak of, 2) Make it hurt less, and 3) Even out your tone overall.
It's not easy. 6 years later and I'm still working on it. But it is really helpful.
There is also the possibility that it just isn't in your range. I know my range because I've been in choirs since I was 8, but I don't know yours. Like a lot of people have said, if it hurts, its best to back off a while. As VAs our pipes are the most precious things we have. Gotta take care of them.
((Oh, and if the song is really challenging, don't drink milk or eat chocolate for a while before hand, that can gunk you all up. ^_^))
And there is DarkKnightDamsel's long rant of possibly useless advice.
Whoa, I seem to have missed out on a whole lot of stuff in my time away. Specifically net-drama with some guy or other whose posts got deleted a day later. I wanted to see some net-drama. Aw. :-( Well, Elliair's replies stand as the only evidence that such an event transpired. Truly! It was a net-drama that never was.... WITH THE POWER OF POST DELETION! That's a neat power.
Oh, and I've finished my final essay today. YAY! I'm free for the rest of the mid-semester break! Which is only two weeks long! And I spent the first week of that worrying/ignoring/fretting/occasionally writing my essay! So I only have a week left! Technically 6 days! And even less than that if I want to catch up on all the reading I'm meant to do in preparation for my coming lessons!
.... Now I'm sad again. ;_;
But anyway, megapost time. WOOSH!
Jerma: Nice array of voices you got in your clip, there! I especially love the crazy laughs. I'm glad you took the time to learn how to use Audigy to clean up your samples. For one thing, it really makes them sparkle (if just a little, SMIDGEN overprocessed) and for another, it shows you're really interested in joining. Good enough for me! I'll add your profile to the roster later (along with the link to your latest sampler and whatnot). And very nice work on that Final Fantasy 6 victory fanfare beatbox! That was neato.
The_Zodiak: Hey, I don't have to do any work this time to update the roster! Works for me. :-P Nice work on the variety of voices you got there. I like the fact that they're all little character skits and stuph!
Elliair: I shall remember the date of the chat as if it were etched into my heart. However, I would also like to etch the actually time and dateline that time is from. It might cause me a lot of internal bleeding and I might die from scratching words into the surface of that important muscle that pumps blood through my body.... But I needs to know! Ooooh! Yuri makes me forget my troubles and the fact that I'm not meant to be a nice person on the NGVAC! *pounces on yuri* MINE! @_@ But still, the yuri does not appease the pain from.... updating your profile. Sorrow. Weeping. Sadness. Really bad stuff. ;_;
And now you've made me break into two paragraphs to reply to a single person for the very first time! Does your tyranny know no bounds??? Anyway, I need this space to commentage on your clips and stuff so bear with me. I like your new demo. I want YOU to do a voice for ME. *growls sexfully. cracks whip* Very high quality stuff there. Makaes me wanna do up a new sampler as well. But I'll never forgive you for making me update links. Never. NEVAAAAAAAR! But that robot SFX is pretty neat. Very..... Doctor Who-ish, for some reason. And it's really weird to see you replying to stuff to a person who isn't there. O.o
Shock_Dingo: Man, I missed out on SFX voice night? Man. Now everybody's doing singing clips instead. And I know I can't sing! It's not fair. University work keeps me away from participating in all the good stuff. ;_; Anyway, I loved that filter.... Whatever it is you used. It's very.... ethereal-sounding and alien at the same time. Would have come in handy when I needed to do lines for an alien race some time back, but hindsight is 20/20. O.o
Isca: The "hot and heavy" factor in this thread has risen! HUZZAH! I'm all for rising hawt and hebbiness! Anyway, I thought you had a really good control of your voice in your song clip, though it sounds a little off-pitch acapella. Then again, I've never heard the actual song, so I can't really say for sure. My assessment may, in fact, be absolutely incorrect! Elliair is right though: Sailor Moon is soooooooo last century. Last MILLENIUM even. :-P Hey, that's a two in one pun, I think....
KagomeHigurashi: I thought you matched up pretty well with the original singer for "Fukai Mori" and was pretty darn spot on, though your effort was more or less drowned out by the original singer. Plus, there was a feeling that you were letting the original singer carry you over a couple of "rough spots", substituting their performance to make up for yours. Your second clip of "My Will" had the unfortunate side-effect of making me remember a particularly bad songdub rendition of that song. It was.... really, really horrendous. The flashbacks burn. But anyway, nice sing-along again, though once again the original singer drowns you out and makes up for some of the notes you can't QUITE reach. But then again, for best results, you really need to sing to a karaoke version of the songs so you don't have to be a slave to the exact timing, pitch, tone etc. of the original singer and can mix it up a little bit. Or even do it acapella.
ricem0nsta: Like Frogs said, if you're so desperate for voice actors, why don't you go through the roster list and see who you can pick up for the remaining roles? Scout phttp://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~edwyn/AVA/zip/omahdon_butterfly.mp3eople! Listen to the samplers, see if they fit into the characters you want and email them. And you could always do some preliminary animating stuff while you're waiting or something. Draw the characters! Storyboard! Something visual to complement the audio! 'Cause there's nothing quite as frustrating as jumping into a project only to have it go nowhere but into the mud.
Frogs: You fool! Now they've learned to harness that terrible power in audio editing that is.... multi-tracking! You've taught the most evil of techniques, and inspired people to.... to.... SING! God, NO! Why, why all the singing? SO MUCH SINGING! THE SINGING BURNS THROUGH MY CARTILEGE! I will fight this array of sweet voices lifted in harmonious rapture.... With my own voice that BURNS with TONE-DEAF ALACRITY! Plus, I don't want to feel left out. @_@ And wow, that was a neat little song! It's like.... the 80s all over again. It gets a bit 90s with the electric guitar riffs, but there's a strangely nostalgic feeling to the song. Kinda like something that would go on The Breakfast Club soundtrack. The Weird Al version, anyway. :-P
What do you mean, did I have to split my megapost between two posts? Don't be foolish! Why would I do such a curious thing? It's simply too vague! What an unkind thing to say! Rather! And I did not accidentally post a link in the middle of my last megapost! That was purely accredential! I sometimes use words which I don't economate.
Sty2000: Errrrr.... Well, I only listened to D-Mac's cleaned up version of your sample, since your original clip just plain disappeared. You've got an interesting voice, I can think of any number of anime that could use a "typical teen voice that isn't actually all that typical" voice like that. But really, I'm gonna have to say: Try again. Take a listen to other people's demos, write up a script and do voices for a minute or so. There's no hurry, this club ain't going anywhere. Just submit your profile and another clip when you got something recorded that isn't a lot of silence while you're desperately thinking of something to say into the mic. And learn how to clean up your own samples while you're at it.
D-Mac: By the time you read this, the ban will probably be over so: Thanks for cleaning up Sty2000's sample, but unless you're willing to do that for him every time he needs to send lines somewhere, he needs to learn dat for himself. So I really can't accept that as his sample. Also, sorry to hear about the ban. Kinda weird tho. O.o
MC_Huggies: But I can't sing. Are you calling me a bad VA? No, don't answer that, I think I can't bear to hear the real truth. Oh, the pain! The pain of it all!
Bezo: GOLD! GOLD GOLD! GOLD GOLD GOOOOOOOLD! That opera snippet was, well, GOLD! As opposed to Glod, who is a very confused dwarf. I loved it! ENCORE! XD And way to twist the knife in KagomeHigurashi's gut there. XD Yes, to become a TRUE facsimile of a Japanese voice actress you will need to be able to sing! SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING! Sing until all your other bodily functions fail!
Aimi: I couldn't access your clips on SoundClick, but after listening to your song on the Newgrounds Audio section, I wish I could. Wow, that was a very funky, jazzy little beat. I'm feeling all relaxed and smooth as a really cool cat. Who is cool. And a cat. This is the kind of music superspies would listen to while putting their mackdaddy moves on the ladies! Either that, or it'd be used for the opening credits sequence for some 70s criminal caper flick involving stolen diamonds. I like. XD
Hobbes_The_Prince: Welcome back to you too! You've been away for quite a while yourself. O.o How was your walkabout? Did you catch your Dreaming?
DarkKnightDamsel: Oooooooh..... *claps claps claps* I like this knowledge of singing! In fact, you, Isca and Aimi are a knowledgeable bunch, aren't you? And you're all women! Hmmmm.... A conspiracy? PERHAPS! Or maybe I just missed out on all this when the pamphlets for "How not to completely ruin your voice when you sing" got handed about. Darn.
MEGAPOST-U! TIME-A UPERU!
There was a lot of commenting on singing clips in this particular megapost. O.o So now, I too shall have a clip for people to comment on! And you will. Because if you don't, my 56K modem shall weep for having worked so hard in downloading your massive clips. It's even lathered itself in my sweat in order to make it appear to be some sort of living creature capable of persperation. Yarr.
Anyway, I just dug out a pretty old clip from one a decrepit section of my CD collection. It was a clip for when I decided to enter a competition at the VAA called: "Awful Idol". I think you can all guess what the purpose of the competition was. In any case, here's me singing that DDR classic: BUTTERFLY! Performed as a duet by an opera singer and a rap artist. Enjoy it. Because you're secretly a masochist.
Oh and check it out: KagomeHigurashi and I (amongst many, many others) are in the Drowtales 4th Anniversary Animation. It's kawaii to the max!

Here's my little advice for singing and songwriting:
I find that if you are singing with just a normal kind of singing voice (The kind where you don't want to have your parents hear in the next room) then you'll practically have to go into falsetto to hit some high notes. When you are alone (I live on my own now thank god) you can kinda belt out things and perhaps hit those notes. But like many have said in their posts, it may just be out of your range. Not everyone will be able to sing like Sheryl Crow or Martina McBride. A nice little trick is transposing the whole song. I had guitar class in high school since it was an easy course 'cause I already knew alot on guitar, and one thing I noticed when we played songs at the end of the class is that my teacher would not have the real chords. The patterns were all the same, but instead of A, E, D, they were like G, D, C. People in the class didn't notice, but I did since I learned alot before taking the class and kinda had a good ear starting to develop. He most likely couldn't hit some of the tough notes in the song when he sang them, so he just transposed everything a step down or so. Some people just go half a step, if they can pull it off. It's a neat trick, but in Cool Edit transposing sounds really weird, so playing an instrument with the new arrangement is most likely more ideal.
-Hobbes
I did a mini-practice rant using the Soundwave effect and it ended with Soundwave proudly declaring that he was Cybertronian in his heritage, but Canadian by choice. And so then I decided to have him sing O Canada.
And here it is!
Omahdon - Ok, the fact that you liked my opera snippet AND made reference to Glod gives me hope that you're a Terry Pratchett fan. Is this the case? ;)
Is there a way to silence the white noise inbetween words without creating a click? I've tried Audacity's hard limiter, silencer, and probably some third thing that I forgot or never existed, and there's always a click from the sudden drop. Any way to cover it up?
