Anyway, the only thing left this semester is my paper for Enlgish. I have to write about the causes of recent polarization, and I'd like to hear what you guys think. I'd especially like studies/articles/journals I could use, so if you have any notable journals pertaining to the topic, please post them here.
Care to elaberate on your topic, do you mean polarization of political beliefs or how polar bears are now being put into zoos in Florida.

You eat liberals for breakfast?
Yuck.
I'd prefer eat that unidentifiable, moldy thing wrapped in aluminum foil in the back of the fridge.

Sure. I meant political polarization, also known as the "Great Divide." The paper is attempting to explain polarization, and why as of late the public has been so polarized. I'm blaming George W. Bush, liberal kooks, issues like the War on Terror/Iraq/gay marriage. Anything else you guys can think of? Any studies you have found?
I'd also like to add the Patriot Act, abortion, and separation of church and state to that list.
The Internet is like a screwdriver. You can use it to take an engine apart and understand it, or you can see how far you can stick it in your ear until you hit resistance.

I would think the whole legal battle over the 2000 election started the polarization. I don't think America wasn't really polarized in 2000--it was just apathetic. The subsequent legal battle, name calling, etc. instigated it, and it was fueled by the reasons you've given.
So often times it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we had the key...
A large reason for polarization is the two party system. Third parties are too weak in America.
I actually wrote a 12 page report on this. I'll look for it and if I find it I can send it to you.

I wrote about that, it's in my paper in the some topic on here.... I'll repost it because people bitched about me bolding it...
Look up Duverger's Law, it's quite an interesting law that shows why we have a 2 party system.
