Dude, WTF? You state all these things like they are facts, when they are just your opinions and ideas. You have no clue that anything you are saying is true. The people who posted after you see what was the true cause of the low turn out. People weren't that excited about the prize or couldn't find an audio clip that inpspired them to make a Flash. You're thinking to hard. :)

Maybe even AH goods (game, figures, shirts) would of turned up a few more entries. Plus you would benefited from having someone wear the AH merch. Wow, site admin and director of marketing. I hope you have a nice shinny title bar on your desk Wade.

Well, while an alternate prize would have probably helped, the guy who will probably win actually wants the XM Radio. The idea was people would promote O&A and if they win they would be able to then listen to O&A with their prize.

If I did it all over I would have had the option for a cash prize or something. However by the time we realized we weren't getting many entries it was to late to change the prize as people wouldn't have any time to make a good entry. Oh well, maybe next time.

I was working on an entry, but... Meh. I still plan on submitting it sometime in the future.

I just couldn't get it finished on time with the level of quality I desired.

Yeah, sorry Wade. I wasn't able to finish my entry on time. Just too lazy I guess. I'll try to finish it up in the future and submit it.

But yeah, I think the main reason this contest didn't attract that many people is that by being forced to use a sound clip it really chokes the amount of creativity a person can put into it. I mean, the clips virtually dictate what you need to do.

Also, you'd be amazed at how many flash artists were not awared of the contest. Perhaps a thread in the flash forum next time eh? ;) That also has the added advantage that the thread can't die. It'll get bumped with each post.

Are you kidding? There's dozens upon dozens of clips to choose just a snippit from! It's not like you're being forced to use x amount of time from just one specific clip... also, how could people be unaware of the contest? It's been promoted in at least half a dozen front page posts over the past month or so. What else do you want?!

Everytime I posted to the front page about this a 48 hour sticky thread was listed at the top of the Flash forum and all other forums...

Well, I know that. I'm just saying that it was rather surprising how many people didn't know about it. I guess when flash artists are interested in doing some flash work they go straight to the flash forum and scan there. And skip over the news items alltogether.

Or maybe everyone knew. I don't know. I'm just trying to come up with reasons why it didn't do so well. What do you think the problem was?

The deadline is gone and this Topic is done. No more posts and an administrator should lock it because it will just be about nothing.

Are you a mod? No? Then don't go around saying what should be done with threads >:(

1) The topic is not done and there is still plenty to talk about. For example, who will win.
2) The thread has yet to get badly off topic (unless we count your post)
3) We never lock news topics :|
4) Read the rules, you're not suppose to state that you feel that a topic should be locked. Thats a bannable offence.

So in summation. STFU....please.

Of course they're generalities. I only get to interact with the BBS users, but these were the generalities I arrived at through study. I would think that you would understand just how lazy most of us are. You frequently see people asking exactly the same questions over and over on the same page when all they have to do is read a little, even skimming or using a Find option would present people with answers or evidence that they're being unoriginal.

You have no clue that anything you are saying is true.

As I said, I couldn't get a complete demographic study for this due to artists who choose not to use the BBS and posting one's true age is optional, but I have conducted research into this.

You check into general, the politics regular lounge, and other such lounges and you hear people lamenting real life problems more often than Flash problems. Check their profiles and you can learn more about them.

Check into the Flash forum and you find the people who are trying actively and they come from all walks of life, but you do see trends.

The average age of users that submit flash trends toward late teens to a few years older, the age where they can accumulate their own money and have a proper (or improper if they haven't learned to budget their time) amount of free time. The average NG BBS user runs the gamut with extremes at 13 and 35 during the four randomized time intervals during which I checked the profiles of all online users, of course being a BBS user doesn't require any time commitment. I came up with about 550 users which should adequately represent a cross section. I did this research during my lurking phase before I signed up for an account so the trends may have changed within the past half a year, but I'd doubt it.

The people who posted after you see what was the true cause of the low turn out.

I never dismissed that the prize was another factor. It's probably the primary factor. I try not to repeat the obvious during normal discussion.

Incidentally, why are you attacking me? I was presenting a trend and speculating as to the cause. Is there something inherently wrong about this?

p.s.- I like to pretend I am a mod, it makes me feel more powerful.
