4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsYeah... I really need help. I am trying to make a game similar to Massive Attack, but I am not very proficient with the ActionScript function in Flash MX Pro 2004. Could someone help me out? Please? I really want to make something that will not get blammed, and I think a game like DYC is just what I need... Only post if you have something helpful to say. Do not bitch on about how I want to rip and steal games. I am not trying to do that... So... Help me out...
Actionscript isn't a function, it's a language :p
start readin'....

Very useful links by Otacon (now -taco-). Look for the 9th post on the page.

Also worth reading Flash's inbuilt help & tuts
Seriously, no-one's going to help you achieve that kind of depth of AS. You need to get out there and learn some yourself, then come back in to ask for tips/pointers/snippets, rather than the entire code for a game
I am not asking for an entire code, I don't know the first thing about Flash JavaScript. I need to... Forget it... I just need serious help with this...
Denvish has illustrated a great point. You can only climb to such ranks be yourself, so get reading and scritping.
Ok man, I think we need to look at this realistically. First of all, you're not going to be pumping out a game like massive attack anytime soon. There's a lot to learn here. Start off small... read AS tutorials on various things like declaring/incrementing variables, using keyboard input, affecting MC properties. etc.
If you want make some drawings because massive attack doesn't look hard to make(and I know ActionScript). So I can give you all the actions if you want a game like massive attack but you need to make all the drawings(cause I can't draw :D )
There are no shortcuts to learning ActionScript. Just spend hours on end reading everything you can and playing around with it, building toys, breaking them, and fixing them. If that sounds like too much work, then perhaps programming is not for you.
The alternative is that you partner up with someone who has the programming skills but can't draw. If you like to draw and come up with ideas rather than get your hands dirty with the code, this may be a better solution. Build some example files of how you want it to look, and find a programmer.
HTH.
See gavd.co.uk for more games!
It's frustrating not knowing how to do what you want, the best way to do it is learn actionscript by following tutorials and then when you've built up some knowledge you can make whatever you want. But this takes ages and you've probably forgotten all about what you wanted to make in the first place.
Alternitavely, you could find a tutorial that vaguely resembles what you want to make then adapt it to your needs, but usually when people do that they don't fully understand what they're doing and it's more trial & error than scripting. The end result is usually patchey and buggy.

I am really good at flash drawing. I am going to study up on ActionScript. My friends and I are just used to C++, not Java. Anyways, I can make all sorts of crap. I just have one question though; how do I insert art? Do I need to insert it to the script via file or what? Also, can you please give me some (if not all) of the code for Massive Attack so I can figure out how modification and creating script works? I usually learn better when it is hands on or something like that rather than just reading and reading. I mean, I can read for a long time when it comes to instruction manuals (but for some reason I was never into War and Peace or anything like that, but that is not the point...) and I may be able to get it then after doing a bit of manual work. However, if you are as good at coding as you say you are, and I don't get all my fingers ripped off, we may be able to work as a team and create one of those Defend Your Castle type games! So... My email is diehardxg2@yahoo.com if you don't already know, which you probably don't know unless you are a stalker... Anyways, you are good at ActionScript and I am good at Flashâ„¢ and PaintShop Pro drawing, so I guess we could make a good team for games and crap...
