4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsWell, I was just hanging out on my computer.
A few days ago, and today, I used my Sound Recorder (that automatically comes with Win XP), to make some funny sounds. But it didn't work ! I wonder if it either is a problem from my mic (which would seem weird because he worked perfectly not so long ago), or if it is a problem from the Sound Recorder program...
I'm just trying to accumulate some advices / tips / tricks...
I'm sad. And mad !
First eliminate the 'dodgy mic' option by finding something else (eg guitar amp, stereo) that you can test the mic on, or another mic that you can test on your PC
If it's not the mic, then check your volume control panel (C:/Windows/System32/sndvol32.exe or Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio Tab>Advanced) OPTIONS>PROPERTIES>RECORDING. Check and uncheck a few things and see if anything happens.
Thanks Denvish, I have tried everything you told me to do, but everything just seems fine. My mic is working, the sound is working. But when I RECORD my voice, it just doesn't work... Weird thing...

I'm in the same boat as you are in this alex, my mic works and everything, I just cant record it in sound recorder.
I'd like to know what is wrong as well, but it may be two completely different reasons :'(.

Click the Start button and select Run (or hold the Windows button on your keyboard and press R)
Type sndvol32 and press enter.
Make sure the volume control for "Microphone" is turned all the way up.
If you can't see a volume control for "Microphone", click the Options menu and select Properties. In the "Show the following volume controls:" box, make sure "Microphone" has a check mark next to it. If "Microphone" isn't listed there, then I don't know what to do.

Thanks man ! That resolved my problem !!! You rock my world =)
But that shit is weird. I mean, I had recorded my voice and music without a single problem for about a year. How come that today, for no reason whatsoever, that thing gets "unchecked" on the list ? Isn't that weird ? Oh well.
At least it works. And I'm very thankful.
I hope it will work for you too Joobie ! =)

Glad I could help. A lot of programs will mess with volume settings. I wish there was a way to lock volumes, but alas, there is none.

It did, thanks for the help ShittyKitty.
Now i can use my voice to annoy people once again!

My only response to this mind-boggling post of yours is ¥.
It seems you were dropped on your head as a child. judging by your previous post (as well at this one).

Heyyyyy asshole!
Fuck off, stupid little dipshit. Take your off-topic, useless post and shove it directly up your ass, where it belongs. This topic has been already been answered and resolved by yours truly, thus negating any need for you to make any posts, let alone something as worthless as this. Dumbass.

Oh my fucking god, piss off. Don't bump a stupid thread for something like that. At least PRETEND you're male when you type something like that. You sound like you're 8 years old for christ's sake! "May you please be nicer?" HAHAHA!! That's ridiculous. You made my night kid...

There are two settings for your sound on your computer.
"Playback" - which is the normal setting for your computer. With this option, your sound profiles are geared to output sounds.
"Recording" - which is the microphone based setting, is the sound input setting.
I don't know why, but some programs auto-uncheck the microphone (thus muting it) and never tell you that it has happened. I have found that you can gain easy access to your microphone settings if you switch between these two settings. It may be different for your OS, but this is how it works on Win 98 and ME...

To all the above bullshit. I'll say this. It's really a shame when a few people ruin the forums for others by being total assholes. Some people need to realize that people have questions, and others do too. Not everyone sees the words the same way you do, so don't fault them for it.

Yeah, you're most likely implying me. I apologize, it was funny. I'm sorry but when people misuse grammar and spam idiotic questions I can't help myself but to reply. Yes, I realize I'm not an english teacher, we all make mistakes, but sometimes I get the feeling people are just doing it intentionally. People do register alt accounts to act like "n00bs" and mess around to get attention. Look at the question for Christ's sake, "May you please be nicer?" C'mon man, nobody really says that...
It was a simple general implication. Not directed at anyone in particular.

Wow, nice screenie. I didn't even think to get one.
I slept all day so I'm staying up all fucking night. School is going to blow tomorrow. It only looks bad because I've decided to stay in the Wi/Ht forum. If I had spaced them out it wouldn't look so terrible.
I apologize if I have "inconvenienced" you. I've looked back over the posts and I can't find one that isnt relevant/humourous/informative. Unnecessary at best? I'd like to see one. Granted yes, I probably do need to calm down a bit, I'm not speeding from post to post insanely typing replies. I'm just posting like anybody else would. It looks 10X worse because nobody's really posting this early. If you had checked out the time stamps you would have noticed that they go back to about 2:00 A.M. It's currently 5:08 A.M. which provides a window of 3 hrs+ to post enough to fill up the screen. :)
Call me crazy, but that really doesn't seem so insane to me. I'd say I'd be insane if you couldn't fill up the screen with posts if you had 3 hours on your hands. How many does it take to fill up the screen anyway? What was it? 14?
Convert 3 hrs into minutes, 60 x 3 = 180
Take 180/14 and you get 12.85 (long decimal)
Now I'm not a mathemetician, but I think thats 1 post per about 13 minutes? That's not that much. So you see, with such a simple tool such as "math" you can actually calculate the posts and see that It's really not so bad after all. The greater problem is, what do you do at 5:06 in the morning? Eh? There's the REAL question.
Even better, I'll just make insanely long posts, like this one! Then I won't have the chance of filling up the screen with my posts! OMG! There's a solution! Thanks for wasting another 15 or so minutes of my life, I had absolutely nothing better to do. You've given this time a purpose other than posting random "unecessary" posts in the forums as well as giving me someone to prove wrong! Thank you! :P

OK, point taken, I withdraw the 'unecessary' comment. I'm just not used to waking up in the morning and seeing that kind of dominance on the topic page. I didn't check the timestamps, so I jumped to conclusions; for which I apologise. I just have a big problem with spammers, and from first appearances that's what it looked like.

Oh no man, its all good. No need to apologize. You just happen to comment at the wrong time. I apologize for coming off as a dick. If anything, keep it up. There's a lot of spam in the forums that needs cleaning up. Has anybody checked out that riddle thread? Good lord. Read through a couple pages of it, I don't think I've ever seen so many n00bs and so much spam in one place.
