This riddle is supposedly unsolvable. i can't figure it out, maybe you all will have some luck.
Although broken, they will always exist and surround us. We don't like being confined in them and they will outlive us all. What are "they"?

How do they 'outlive' you?
Rules can fade away within a lifetime.
'Promises' are more obscure. You can probably think of a way that they outlive you.

i hope so.
Although broken, they will always exist and surround us.
so far......atoms? after a nuclear attack?
We don't like being confined in them and they will outlive us all. What are "they"?
lets see.......laws? laws are broken, as they have some confinements........
they will always exist, and therfor outlive us all. and, no one likes laws, so i guess IM RIGHT.
ps: how do we know you didnt just make this up and then say it's unsolveable? like this: what do you smoke and drink at the same time? unsolveable.

Aye, but not all rules outlive us.
Doesn't the characteristic have to apply to every rule?

The same reason people climb a mountain, swim an ocean, or drink a beer.
Because it's there!
