3d cartoons ar horrible pieces of processed rubbish what ever happened to old school 2d cartoons, that were drawn on paper? are the kids of today to good for that? all of the sudden pixar comes along and makes these retarded movies like: Finding Nemo, Toy story, A Sharks Tale, etc, etc, and now all of it is invading TV. Boycott Computer generated movies.

Well sorta... I'm more into water color cartoons like Snow White and the Jungle Book. I miss them. :( The second Jungle Book movie was alright, it was proably the last animation made by disney that wasn't computer generated. They've now eliminated their Animation department.

It's all about progression.
Anyway, Pixar movies > Disney's new 2d films.
A nice mixture of 2d and 3d animation is fine, not too much of a certain type. And claymation too. (But not knox's stuff, he's not progressing at all)

Fucking boo. End of a golden era, as far as I'm concerned. Why are kids impressed by stupid 3D? Grumble.

You have to watch the very old simpson cartoons before you appreciate the new ones though :p. I think that they get WAYY to carried away with the 3d stuff though. Light Reflection in a picture black room? wtf is up with that?

BUT BACK IN MY DAY, we had Johnny Quest, Reboot and Astor, the war-amputee robot, and 3d was helluva cool.

Yes, i agree. There will come a point where all cartoons will look 'life-like', and that will ruin the point in cartoons.

3-d cartoons suck hard at capturing accurate physical emotion and reaction, something a good 2-d artist can do masterfully. But it will get better.

I don't think it'll ever replace 2d though :o
Probably ADD to it, but no way will any computer program replace the maniacs who animate stuff like gundamn and manga and the new JLA cartoons.
Those guys are frickin awesome :o
Hand-drawn animation has class. I hope my kids can enjoy em'

I don't think 2d will ever really go away and I bet that 3d gets a lot better. Over the years, when it gets cheaper, more people will use it and a lot of artist's will begin to show the same creativity with 3D that they do now days with 2D.
The problem now is that it's new, and it's a fad. You never want to break the mold in a new fad that is gaurnteed to sell. So we're stuck with the same old typical 3d bullshit. But I have faith that it'll improve.

That will never happen. Who makes cartoons? Us. Does everyone accept the norm? No. It's the same thing with actors, they say we will eventually have computer generated characters in the majority of films, that we may not have actors any more. Who makes films? Us. Who watches them? Us. Do we all want to see fake human beings? No, a lot of us want to see real human beings. There will never come a day when we will stop obsessing about ourselves.
Relating to the topic, i prefer 2d animation, but i agree with Moloko that if the theme/story is good, the animation doesn't matter so much.

yeah, I don't think it'll replace it either. but for some reason so many production companies have a boner for 3d >:(
If you can't do 3-d like square or pixar, you probably shouldn't bother

If you're bitching about stuff done on computer, then why are you on Newgrounds, where the main glut of 2D animation is done on computers.
However, if you're looking for some great traditional animation, try
"The Wall"
"Your Face"
"Yellow Submarine"
Spirited Away"
You get the picture...

Well Disney and Pixar split up, so we'll be seeing less.

I hated Max Steel with a passion. A PASSION YOU HEAR! Seriously though some 3d cartoons are cool, but not all. I hate how Shark Tale looks, I seriously don't want to see it. However, Shrek was really good and sweet. *awww*
Remember the good old days.

I loved that show too. I thought it had a good mix of 3D and 2D animations.
Plus mecha rules.

i dont mind 3-d shows, but i prefer 2-d. when they make 3-d, they usually screw up with the people like the way they walk or when they fight.
i remember that spider-man show where every once in a while it would go into 3-d. i think they did a pretty good job with Transformers: Beast Wars (i remember when i was little and i watched that show every single day).
but overall, 2-d usually comes out better.

Some of the CG shows annoy me too, especially since they're played on Cartoon Network. They clearly are not cartoons. Sometimes it's alright, but if a cartoon has no actual drawing in it, I don't watch it.
