Yeah, I've always thought that. Or to sink the Spanish Armada with a speedboat with machine gun mounted on it.

Just about the most enjoyable thing to do would be to storm a castle with a suit of body armour and an M4.
^.^
I believe its why they made Videogames in the first place.

It'd be better to go old war combat with new war guns. Give me a thompson m1a1 and I'd take down the Persian empire single handed.

This arguement has singled handedly destroyed the following old ways of thinking :
Children are our future,
A strong democracy incorporates thought from ALL members of state,
Education should emphasize student thought and opinon.

Look up the Battle of Adowa in 1896. Italy had the best weaponry that the could have at the time, and the eithiopians were using mainly weapons form a couple centuries earlier, and the italians ended up losing the battle with around 6000 casualties.

The Taki Taki of Brazil similarly resisted colonization by the Portuguese even though they fought with wood and stone weapons.
The same thing can be shown in a game such as Empires: Dawn of the Modern World.
In short, tanks>horses.

The native americans did fairly well against the frontiersmen with simple bows and arrows. But yeah I think it would be awesome to be standing on top of a hill or something in Ireland, with William Wallaces entire army running at you full speed. Faces all painted, waving their pikes and short swords around. Then you just mow them down with a sub machine gun. Sweet.

OHH MAN WRONG, THE ROMANS DID USE ELEPHANTS JUST NOT OFTEN,
Probably the most famous campaign was the invasion of Greece after the Macedonian wars which split power between the greek states.
Regardless, the roman army had encountered war elephants long before the 2nd Punic war. The first contact between a roman army and war elephants was in the Pyrrhic war.

In WWI, the british would move in formation so that the germans only needed to do one sweep with a machinegun to whipe them out. Thats kinda a mixture of modern and old war.

Hitler would just send bombers over the ships and they would try fire up at the planes but the cannon balls would come back down and they'd sink themselves. Hitler would win without having to drop a single bomb.

Yes, that is world war one summed up in sentences. One side charges, gets cut down by machine gun, other side repeats.

ugh, you idiot, the British marching in formation was during the REVOLUTIONARY WAR. Repeat it with me kids. (revolutionary war... yay!).
WWI was caused by military buildup and competition between almost all of Europe. Alliances were made and eventually the tension came to a head when the Archduke of some random country was assassinated (I can't remember the country, but it was Franz Ferdinand and the people there hated him and were deeply insulted by him parading through their country on their independence day when he was the one who took their independence away from them). WWI was characterized almost completely by years and years of trench warfare, people would sit in trenches and take pot shots at the enemy with their machine guns and such, while the enemy shot back at them in the same manner. Nobody advanced because trenches were virtually impossible to take, and anyone who left their trench was immediately gunned down. The war ended with the Treaty of Versailles in France that decided the blame was to be placed on Germany, and Germany was heavily penalized for the war, including the disbanding of the military and some of their land being taken by other countries. This led to the resentment that many Germans felt towards the rest of Europe, and was part of the reason Hitler was allowed to rise to power before WWII, because he promised to get back all the stuff Germany had lost as a result of WWI.
That is the short version of the story, and the condensed version of that is: Every country in Europe was competing, and then there was a war that was mostly a stalement, and then it ended.

Warhammer 40,000 is a good example of modern war and old war combined.
