First of all, I wouldn't buy a console, cuz there's nothing a console can do that a PC or PDA can't. (You can't visit Newgrounds either.)
Well, if I had to choose I'd pick a PSP, cuz it can be expected that the PSP will be the most powerful handheld console.
The only reason I can think of (to buy a DS), would be that somebody likes the type of games that Nintendo offers for the GBA (and probably the same type for the DS). The other cool thing is the dual screen, but I don't think that will be thé selling point. My advice: don't buy anything, save your dough and buy a PC later....

I'm thinking it will be too expensive, and I don't really see the point in two screens...
Plus I've got my eyes set on the PSP. I left Nintendo for Sony a long time ago.

Na, I'm not gonna get the DS, first of all its like $150 and plus, what the point of handheld consoles? You don't have to spend every waking moment devoted to video games.

When I think about it, I have some issues with Sony. (of which I will not explain) I have a Gamecube and somewhere around the lines of 25 games, most of which I've had a decent time playing. My PS2 has only 5 games, I've enjoyed them all as well, but for not as long on average.
Dual Screen is looking good. Better price, longer battery life, a decent 3rd party backing, (Nintendo states that they have 100 companies backing them up with 3rd party games) and the fact that it's a Nintendo hanheld work to improve it's chances of success.
Think about it. When the Gameboy was released, it beat the competition so fast that I don't even remember some of them. The Gameboy Color and Gameboy advance have also pwned any rival hanhelds of their time. I mean, the N-Gage had every opportunity to beat the Gameboy series of hanhelds, but was wiped out almost instantly. When you create a series of hanheld consoles that have outsold the combined sales of 9 other hanhelds several times over, what could possibly compete?
Although sometimes I wonder why I just can't get both...

If it has backwards compatibility, then yes. If not, then probably not.

Probably not... maybe if the price drops but I don't see the need. I already own a laptop so if I truley do feel the need to play games everywhere I go, I'll just use that.

a pc is to much to keep up. a person has to keep updateing and re configuring and spending money on the thing. with a console you know that the game will work unless the game is bugged or something. and the psp is going to be a friggin monster, rember the old game gear. yeah something like that.

The Sega Dreamcast could browse the internet and visit Newgrounds just like a PC. If you had a mouse and the keyboard, it was a pretty decent (if basic) internet experience.
As far as getting a Nintendo DS, my answer is No. I already have a GBA and and GBASP, and I don't play either. Do I really need another handheld, especially one I don't like the design of? Not really.
