They probably won't vote for a foreign one either... in principle. If they were talking about Arnold I'm not so sure how it would work.
As I see it Arnold is far too conservative to become president. He flip flops worse than Kerry and he's more conservative than Bush. I don't think it will happen. Of course Americans could be Americans and be completely dumb about it and not look at the issues, which is always a concern.
Has anyone noticed that the issues in this election are more at the forefront than in recent elections?
Well it's sad to see such things still happen in the south... the education system needs some revamping and de-stereotyping over there. But anyway... I know what you mean about Americans voting without knowing. Many of (what I consider) my wisest professors and teachers tell me that the general American public always vote against their best interests... so in other words: Americans vote against themselves.
It appears to be true that the issues are also a hotter button on this election than in previous ones. I think it's because of people like us. The influx of the politically concerned generation Y is sure to draw higher numbers of young people to the voting polls. Let's hope they make a wise choice.

The idea that someone can come to the United States and work there ways through the ranks to become a leader is the American dream, why should we forbid the highest office of the country to anyone not born in the country?

Read the whole topic and then post before you say something other people have already said. Thank you.

Is there any way I can get a moderator to lock my topic once it's been debated and over with? If so, please lock it :)

I don't think that part of the Constitution will ever change. There could be to great a chance for conflict of interests in a foreigner holding the office of the president.
Hypothetically, say Schwarzenegger becomes President. And a conflict of some sort arises in his former country, he or anyone else would have a tremendously difficult time in keeping the interest of our country over his own interests in his former country.
I know he can’t send troops or start a war all by himself. But he can put tremendous pressure on the house to give aid. Or he can have a tantrum and veto every bill that comes to his desk until the aid he wants if granted.

I don't get it. Some of our first presidents weren't born in the u.s. So what changed?

I don't think a person born in another country, should be able to achieve the highest position in this , what if we went to war with his birth country ,were are his loyalties, or what if he secretly hates his birth country and wants a war?
No you need to be born here to have the true sense of this being your country ,your land . otherwise you are just a immigrant, not that it is bad but it is what it is.
