Olimar takes TIME to master if your not patient with which pikmin to use at the given time it could lead to a problem. Here comes my recommendations for each type of pikmin.
White: The worst in attacking and knock back. These only have two purposes throwing and grabbing/attacking opponent while grabbing. Tossing these pikmin gives nice damage and will distract the fighter forcing him to either one of two choices...
A. Retreat and try to attack the pikmin
B. Shake it off while attacking you
Many will choose option a because of the DISTANCE between both fighters but if you throw it WHILE he is approaching he can't retreat by ground because of Olimars range so he is forced to jump to the skies and attack the pikmin off or try to attack both at the same time. If the opponent tries to attack easily shield/ shield grab him (to shield grab press L/R then press A) to trap him dead in his tracks while the white pikmin and your grab do the damage. When he retreats to fend it off try to approach by a grab(use a purple pikmin as it is Recommended for short grab reach). He will clearly jump but then exposed in the air pull off a short hopped u-tilt and get some easy damage
Blue: I like to use these as "Grab finishers" because of the DISTANCE of the tosses compared to it's counterparts such as white, red and yellow. Clearly it has the same distance as those 3 but it has the same KNOCK BACK as the purple ones. If your cornered and facing the opposite direction of the OTB just try to grab the opponent and toss him backward. At around a high percentage he will shoot very far. Now here you can do one of two options.
Option A: Edgeguard
Olimar may have a piss poor recovery but that doesn't stop his air game from being good. If you can clearly see your opponent trying to recover you can pull an immediate spike and send him to his doom( Recommended Yellow pikmin) . If you want to play it safe just use a f-air on him (Recommended Red pikmin). Even IF they miss people think "Oh Olimar's recovery sucks" FYI it only sucks because of one reason its based on the PIKMIN you have! If you used only one jump you can still make it back to the edge using his remaining jumps . Olimar's recovery has one think i like about it. That being the time it grabs the ledge. It's fast enough to edge hog a recovery making its way to the edge! So even if you miss the attack there's a good possibility that you can grab the ledge if your opponent can't auto sweet spot on a ledge. While your opponent thinks "He can't reach the ledge and get me they are quite wrong in their doing because of how fast the tether recovery is.
If the opponent manages to get OVER the ledge you still have one option while your on the edge. Instead of a strike press the SHIELD button to roll a little then pop a D-SMASH seeing as it's a great defense to people on the ground it makes it so that you have more space in your moves.
Purple: Finishing the opponent/Throws. You obviously know that purple tops anything else in getting a kill but did you know about the throw? Not too many people do/ expect this! Purple pikmin KNOCK BACK anything it collides with during the throw. The opponent is forced to do two things
A: Take the blow
or
B:Shield
Either way both are tipped in your favor because of Olimar's grab range. If they just shield they leave themselves able to get GRABBED! So use a pikmin of your choosing and just attack with a grab. If they get hit with the blow they lost a valuable time to approach!
I wont do yellow/red because they are both really similar to each other. However i use red's for f-air and b-air whereas i use yellows for Olimar's spike and u-air. Both are usable with smashes.

I said it once and I'll say it again, but it always falls on deaf ears. Meta Knight, ROB, and Snake are "NOT" broken characters, nor are they cheap. The problem lies in the fact that the so-called "pros" and wannabe pros keep playing Smash Bros. As if it where a Street Fighter game. SSBB is "NOT" like a Street Fighter or KOF game, characters are allowed to consistently evolve as more and more mysteries are discovered as time passes.
A problem I face at Game FAQs is everyone wanting to play 1vs1 with items off and neutral stages. They insist on this standard of play, over... and over, and over, ...and over, and over again. Not only do I find this boring and repetitive, I also find it cheap and unfair. If a person keeps main-ing MK, and I like using Ike or DDD, I'm automatically at a disadvantage. All MK has to do is apply spamable unskilled pressure on my slow to start-up character until I am dead.
A flat level means no place to retaliate, no place to turn the tables, no place to run, no place to set traps, no place for miracle recoveries, and no way to stall. With my weak recovery with Ike, a knock-away is pretty much the end of me; if we where on a more complex level, or we had extraneous variables involved, his victory would not be so easily guaranteed. Playing Brawl the Game FAQs way is like watching a Jackie Chan flick with him fighting in an empty room; uninspiring and imbalanced.
Out of all the tutorials I've seen on character usage and development, not once have I seen a tutorial on character priority and escapes concerning items, such as bats, laser-swords, pitfalls, bombs, springs, bouncers etc. It's like the entire community has forgotten that the strengths and weaknesses of certain characters increase or decrease when items and environment are involved.
I would love to see Meta Knights sword spamming serve him well on levels where bombs slide down pipes. When his lack of lag places him in a tough spot concerning smart bombs. How about the classic Mario bros. Level with the one hit kill turtle shells and crabs. It's like everyone has forgotten what SSBB is all about. I'm not saying I am against 1vs1 no items match. They have their place, but that setting should NEVER be a standard.
If everyone here was honest with themselves they would realize the on certain levels of play, about 20% of the moves certain characters have become unusable on neutral stages. Another 20% of characters moves become unusable when items are tuned off, leaving them with only 60% or less of their entire move-list. This is about average for some, but worse for others. Now consider this flaw, and then the tendency some players have to spam. Who can blame them when nearly half their move list is missing?
Playing the "so-called" pro standard is like using Naruto's amateur Rasengan on a member of Akatsuki. With no environmental distractions or traps to set up, most straightforward moves are easily punished and therefore become unusable. I really don't see how everyone thinks this is ok. Anyone who plays with items on is automatically a noob or gets rejected by the community, when that in fact is the start setting of the game in the first place.
What about stamina matches? What about grab the coin matches? What about the elements that keep the players guessing? No wonder MK has become a problem. You're not playing the game the way it's supposed to be played. Has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe a characters smash attack makes up for their lack of overall play, or maybe a characters small size makes it easier for them to maneuver in tight situations? What about players who have skills in paying attention to detail rather then lightning reflexes?
The answer is this, what's broken is your playing style, not MK.

Yay, discussion!
Who is rising or dropping this Friday's upcoming Tier List?
I guess I haven't been keeping up with every new AT or update or whatever. But...
imo... raising
ICs
Sonic
Falcon...
Yoshi
Wario
Pikachu
falling...
Falco
GW
That's really all I can "predict". I've been out of the scene.
At 6/2/09 02:03 PM, Underload wrote: I hate how the tier list has morphed from "list that shows which characters have the most potential" to "which character has the most representation in tourney play"
I don't think it has. If that was so, then it would almost be exactly like the "tournament results thread/character rankings thread". It's not though. The tier list and that ranking list are very different. I have no clue as to exactly how much tourney results affect tier lists or how much this or that.
But that's how it is, so...whatever. I'm anxious to see the results.
Wario, Diddy, Pikachu, ICs, ZSS, Toon Link, Luigi, Sheik, Yoshi, and Sonic are moving up, and Peach / Olimar could go either up or down.
I think Diddy has lost some of his "momentum". I think people just hype him a lot. But he could still go up a couple.
Will everyone watch my tourney's live stream this weekend and listen to me commentate? :3
I should be in Texas then, so definitely. Yes.
At 6/2/09 03:11 PM, Nikenick wrote: Ivysaur is an amazing character if you can space really well and know his strenghts and weaknesses. He's hard to learn, killing moves are hard to land and BS(bullet seed, not bullshit) does about 19% if you DI correctly. So BS isn't Ivysaur's best move. Also Bair spacing is pretty good. I think Ivysaur is a bit below average, maybe D/E tier but not F tier.
Ivysaur is a bit underrated imo, but he has very limited safe approach options. And camping with razor leaf isn't too effective.
(lol, is PT still being played as one character? :S)

Hmm, I'd have to agree with Loogie on what he said about characters not being broken. Its all makes sense now. Considering the play style being broken, it really just doesn't take skill anymore to play brawl, just the knowledge of brawl, stages and items, (if you do play with them). I'm willing to play with items on wifi now, though only in FFA. Items tends to land in the center of the stage or towards the opponent that is currently losing, though that does equal out the items dropped given to each player.
I've been actually getting bored of neutral stages, and I've been edging away from brawl, though I've been on wifi to talk and etc. The only time I've played coin battles was when my friends came over and suggested to play it. Boy, was it fun. I can't believe I forgotten it. Just today, my friends came over to play some SSBB and Melee. We first had some team brawls, then ALL DAY, Coin battles. Hell, we even played Special Brawl, which is always fun.
I'm slso considering the new releases that Nintendo will be having, I'll for sure be getting myself NSMBW, SMG2, The Conduit, and also Metroid Prime: Other or Project M. I'm very happy about these new games that will come out eventually in 2010 or perhaps sooner.

Speaking of wanting to get Nintendo games, I want to get these: Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Metroid Prime 3 & Metroid: Other M, The Legendary Starfy, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Spore ( maybe...) Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and The Conduit (I hope it doesn't get boring like Halo...). Also, I have many comics to read and anime to watch (etc...). So I guess I'll have a lot to keep me occupied...

I'm for sure getting The Conduit. From what I've read in reviews, The Conduit by far has the best wifi connection for multiplayer. So that means less lag. This is the best game Nintendo has released for multiplayer. Also it has Wii Speak! It may be some sort of rip off from Halo, but at least Nintendo is considering more shooter based games, and being able to talk with friends and other random people through Wii Speak.

It's not even Nintendo though. It's all SEGA and High Voltage Software. SEGA is publishing it, and HVS is the one developing. Nintendo has no say in how the game is made whatsoever. It really seems as if SEGA is the real company pushing for Mature games on the Wii - The Conduit, Madworld, and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up publishing HVS's new zombie multiplayer game as long as The Conduit sells well, which I'm fairly confident it will.

I agree Falcon isn't the worst, but...I really don't think he's better than Link or Ganondorf. He is better than Jigglypuff and Ivysaur though.
I'm not surprised at Wario's new placement. I don't see why Diddy moved up from seventh to fifth even though nothing new has been discovered since the last list. I think Marth and King Dedede are still better than him.
