I know this isn't political, but this particular forum I would say is the "intelectual" forum.

Wouldn't you think dark matter is just electron-less atoms, and thus molecules? Think about it for a moment.

I didn't take physical science, so I could be completly wrong, but since the proton is the one that's positively charged. In theory shouldn't dark matter be a protonless atom?

A protonless atom?! Atoms are defined by the number of protons they contain. That's funny.
Well then, as far as I know, dark matter is an "excuse" physicists and anstronomers are using to account for the apparent missing amount of mass that the galaxy must have in order to spin so fast without tearing itself apart. Something like 90% of the universe is supposed to be made of dark matter. Interestingly enough, this is the exact same method scientists used in the early 20th century to account for the missing mass in the nucleus of atoms... i.e., neutrons.
Dark matter may eventually prove to be nothing more than an abundancy of particles that we simply don't have the technology to detect just yet. Gravitons, tachyons, Gluons, etc. Dark matter isn't as special as it sounds, it's just the same old boring particle physics (if you can call that boring!).
Oh! And more times than not, the "Political Forum" turns out to be the "Dumbass Forum". I wouldn't bet on too much intelligence coming out of here while people argue that their President/Candidate/religion/personal belief/country is better than everyone else's.

Every once in a while I do that where I come off sounding like an asshole without meaning to.
I wasn't trying to be condecending or anything... I'm sorry if I did.

I was under the impression that dark matter was nothing more than an object we did not immediately could identify? I mean, we can't sent probes outside our solar system to verify what we see on our space telescopes, so anything that isn't an object or chemical we recognize automatically is labelled as "dark matter", correct?

Admittedly, I'm re-hashing cheshirepus, but I had already typed this up before I saw his reply just now.

You would have preferred he posted this in General? I'm sure that he would have gotten much better responses in a forum where there's topics titled "Americans Suck!","Sex with an NG Regular", and "How do you deposit experience points?". Oh, let's not forget "Sherbert's wang was cut off!".

You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't. To tell you the truth, I don't where the hell I myself would post a topic like this.
Maybe we should ask for an "Intelligent Discussion" forum to be added to Newgrounds.

I believe I stated this before, but if the sun turned into a black hole we wouldn't be sucked in! There now do you still think we are dumbasses?

Dark Matter is matter that is not directly detectable but has observable effects, mostly gravitational. I agree with Stephen Hawking that it's probably a bunch of mesons (quark anti-quark pairs who haven't gotten around to annhilating each other).

And to tell you the truth, anyone can spit out facts. It takes intelligence to actually know something and not just memorize it.

Not trying to be patronizing, I'm just saying...

Hell, I’ve always thought about another forum for discussing the things that aren’t political but don’t fit into anything else. Good idea I reckon.

Yeah, i totally agree. Like just "smart forum" including philosophy, literature, and science. That would be good. Away from teh elitisim of politics, and the downright idiocy of general.

And what about dark energy? Thats more powerful and shit. I wonder if you can use dark energy to become all powerful and shit, and become a diety or a god and shit

An atom without electrons would be an ion, right? Take hyrdogen, minus the one electron, you get the hydrogen ion - H+

H+ is definately not dark matter as far as I know. :)

But I agree with whomever said the thing about Hawking. I've seen something on Nova about that, or maybe it was on TLC (before it turned to shit).

they said that dark matter is 90% of the universe, and that dark energy is 7%, and that both of them are made out of crap that no one knows about

Fuck, this is getting pretty heated seeing it’s a conversation about particle physics…

Your the only one whos not adding to the conversation, every one of my posts were about dark matter / dark energy, but yours asre all about being a whiny bitch, so just slap yourself and stfu.

Dark matter, I think it has huge potential in science. I wonder what its properties are, what we can use it for.

Fryl0ck : I will give you the benefit of the dobut. Is gooie somebody or something on TV? Why did you want that name? Maybe you could be Gooie10 or something like that. You and the real Gooie should work something out.

Chris_Fhurer : all you'r "contributions" to this thread are on about a 3rd grade level. Why don't you do some RESEARCH on dark matter, and see what it IS, and THEN you can come and talk about it with the grownups. Untill then, stfu n00b.
