And why? Is it a sin? Should we believe hollywood? Give your thoughts, evidence, facts, and (smart) opinions on cloning.

I know nothing about it, but I still am weary about it. Something about being able to recreate yourself just doesn't make me feel right.

And what of the psychological effects it will have on the clone once he finds out that he had an original person before him?

I don't think it is right for making whole people, but I do think we should use it to create extra organs for those who need transplants, that would save a lot of lives.

I don't think there's nobody worthwhile to even clone...

My guess is they'd be treated human. As to who would want to be cloned, well there's that one guy.. superman... um... >.< Christopher Reeve. But just because a clone is identical, it is obviously not going to be raised the exact same way as the other and have all the same exact experiences and lessons taught to it that the original person did.

Yes but memories reside in the neural paths of the mind, and my friend, science will never be that advanced, not to the point where you can copy human memory, how in the world would you explain such a process?

I think it's cool. But it would suck for indentity theft.I mean there's people nothing like you taking everything you worked for in your life? They would have find a new way of indentity for everyone that has a clone. And what would happen if there is a crime and your clone did it?That would suck if he had the same finger prints as you.I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone.I'm just looking this at different angles.

I dunno, the religious side of me is saying that we souldn't be playing god, but I can't see any other problem than that... Its like making conscious robots really...
There are many truths in this world. No one thing is ever real. No one thing is ever right. No one person can ever know the whole truth, regardless of the facts they possess.

to be honest, i don't think people are too well informed about cloning, i don't mean to say i know everything, but i think that we're a long way before we get anywhere near cloning people, however, would it really be so 'great' to have someone around who was just like you, would you really be an individual anymore ? imagine the hassle clones would get from religious groups, if they found out themselves ? if you were a clone ? how would you feel if you were told that you weren't who you really were, you weren't an individual, you're an experiement, you have no family, no real friends, and what rights would you have as a clone, there are the human rights agreements, but do they comply for clones ? sure they could be called human, but they're also clones, do we have clone's right agreements ? how about the human right to a name, well your name is already taken ... isn't it ? your life is already taken ? you're one lonely science experiment!
however, there are benefits, such as cloning skin cells, nowadays if you're severly burnt, cloning your own skin cells could help doctors to save your life, nowadays, doctors can clone sheets and sheets of your skin, i know it sounds kinda grose, but isn't it reassuring that if something bad happens to us, we still might have hope ? so perhaps human cloning might sound 'cool' think about the effects it would have on the world...a revolt?? we've all seen films like AI, but what if it's not artificial intelligence that gets us, but ourselves ? how ever, cloning does have it's benefits, for medical reasons, so perhaps we need to be looking into the things which could benifit and help people about cloning, instead of the stuff that looks 'cool'

I think it should be legal. I disdain of laws and playing god is quite fun.

Heres a thought- do you think that clones would have the same thoughts and memories as you...

I don't think they would, but what if you clone from some grey matter ?
Having not studied biology above higher, I don't know, so my pondering is worthless really.

Of course not. Identical twins don't have the same thoughts and memories, do they?

How do you know ? Are you more than one identical twin ? No, so there!

Thoughts and memories are defined by what you perceive. Everyone's thoughts and memories are unique because what everyone experiences is unique. Identical twins do not experience the same events and the same stimuli.
Even if they did, how do you explain how Abigail and Brittany Hensel, conjoined twins that share the same body, have different tastes in music, different thoughts, etc?
So there.

That is because they do not share the same lives- they were split apart at a certain time. By my question I mean if you cloned yourself half way through your life, would you both have the same thoughts and memories?

No. You have to remember that you can't just clone yourself and *POOF* have an exact copy of yourself.
All cloning does is transfer your genetic information into another cell, which becomes a fetus, then a human. And since thoughts and memories are nothing more than sequences of electrical signals between cells, there's no way the thoughts and memories contained in your brain could be transferred to any person, let alone a single cell.

Dude, clone parts that's cool. Clone people, cool too. Clones can work in the army, and serve as bodies for the originals brain transplant for when they get old. Life expectancy would be like 500 years for smart people you don't go senile in old age. That's fucking awesome. Are you kidding?

I think cloning will have more pratical uses such as cloning missing limbs, insulane imbalances (like diabetes), and just perhaps brain cells.
It may take many several years before people are comfortable with the idea of cloning for the sake of copying people.

There is no logical reason not to go forward with cloning. So far the only problem is that people are idiots and resistant to change.
I hated The 6th Day. It's completely illogical that just because you have the same memories and genetically the same body you are the same person.

The old playing god argument is silly, as whenever we make decisions or non-decisions, we ARE playing god.

I am for the cloneing of animals such as cows, or pigs. Perhaps this would alow more food resources into the populous, insted of just relying on breeding. More food in the world would solve a lot of problems.

You apparently don't understand how cloning works. They take an already fertilized egg. Take out the genetic material and insert the cloned material. Besides they got the breeding thing down.

Its not immoral (if they have equal rights). But we dont need this shit when were already overpopulated and north america is overconsuming.
you shouldent have to worry about it, its pretty much impossible to make an adult clone unless you build a person cell-by-cell. A baby clone is pretty much any average baby, but without the genetic diversity.
