Why can't they just accept the fact that they lost this election and take it like a man?!
Yeah and i guess George's bro Jeb had nothing to do with all those unaccounted minority votes now would he? -.^ Or the fact that if they were counted we would have Gore in office right now, but i'm straying away from the topic.
I think your teachers should be allowed to express there political belifes but not enforce them. If they don't agree with yours and try to shut you down remind them of your rights as a student from ACLU.

It turns out its just some guy bellyaching about politics in the school setting. Unless your teachers are forcing their opinions upon you, then what's your beef?
I had a prof in College who gave me a crappy grade on a paper where I raked her favorite liberal book over the coals. I was indignant about it for weeks. I was right, and I was sure politics was the motive... until I got the paper back.
Then I realized what a shoddy, half-assed job I had done. I was so righteous about my work, I forgot to properly cite some of my sources, and I used a lot of vitriolic commentary.
A teachers job is to teach. But they are allowed opinions. I personally choose not to share politics in the setting of education, but I still think its in their rights, just as you are within your rights to share your opinions with your peers.
1) 10th grade: My World history teacher says, "I dont understand why we are in Iraq, they say that Iraq funded 9/11 but Saddam and Osama hated each other."
That's pretty obvious. Usama was a religious fundamentalist, and Saddam was a secularist (ie, didn't believe in religion in govt).
2) 11th Grade (Now): My US History teachers says on the first day of school, " Do you realize that we live in a country where our votes mean nothing? That the electorial colleges are the minority and they decide? Do you realize that we are better off living in a dictatorship?"
I'll say this - when a majority of the public vote elects a president, it's justified, when a majority of the vote cannot - then its certainly not a democracy anymore...

i always have been suspicious about this fact even though i vote republican usually. just to clear up one of the points, the electoral college was designed to keep the presidential election out of direct majority control. this is because our founding fathers were smart enough to see that our nation as a whole is dumb. also we do not live in a democracy, we live in a representative republic. there is a difference.

How encouraging. I guess Viacom should stop airing those preachy "Democracy in the USA" ads now huh?

invisible guy, how does the electoral college temper the stupidity of the nation? to me, all it seems to do is allow politicians to win the presidency by clever political manuvering, not appealing to the majority of those he will govern. so enlighten me.

The kicker is he was straight, well he had a wife at least. I didn't even atack gays and lesbians per se I just went after the statements they made because it was obvious to me they didn't know diddly shit about what they speaking. Of course I atacked them with the same vigor that I atack stupid people on new grounds because that's just how I roll bitch. I think he got mad because I was so mean to his little gays.

maybe stupidity was the wrong word to use. however in order to understand you must understand plato or socrates (cant remember which) who talks about prudence ( the ability to make good desicions). although the majority as a whole may have more combined prudence than a small minority (electoral college), they also have a greater combined imprudence. so in order to hopefully get the best results the electoral college was created. hope this clears up my mistake.

it was plato (im pretty sure). But the electors aren't chosen on any particular merits, they are just some randome dudes who are told in advance by the voters how to cast their votes. i really fail to see how abstract philosophical concepts of prudence and imprudence come into this.

I'd disagree, I think it's important for teachers to share their views with their pupils, and for pupils to share with their teachers. I'm well aware that teachers may try to persuade pupils off their train of thought, and I've had teachers who I have disagreed with politically, and we've had debates over things (usually instead of doing work).
It didn't make a bit of difference though, we both came off a little bit smarter, but neither of us changed our position, and we continued a professional but friendly student-teacher relationship. As long as the views aren't EXTREME to the right or left, or if your teacher is being REALLY imposing of his/her views, then I see no problem, and quite support the sharing of views by people of all ages.

Even though I would agree with the teachers, I still don't think they should preach their political views as the correct way of thinking. I remember how my elementary music school teacher used to talk about how Clinton was the worst president in history. And I never really felt a hatred of Clinton as many did at that time.

If I was a teahcer I'd fuck with the students heads. 'All terrorists and even their slightests connections should be wiped from this earth!" and then I'd say "Bush is a horrible president for bringing us into this horrible war in Iraq in his so called 'war on terror.'"
And then I'd start preaching abotu how teachers should never bring religion into the classroom, all the while using heavily religious allusions and sayings and quoting the bible through out the call period. I think that'd fix them damn students up... Fucking students...

But hey, she's right. I don't see how she's favoring either political party by saying that. Remember...

No offense, but you guys are in high school, now. If your teachers say something you don't agree with politically, speek out against it. You're doing more damage to the class by letting a one-sided view to that kind of radical degree go by unchallenged.
I must lollerskate on this matter.

Now, the vital question is: Would peter have said anything if the teacher had said:
"I very much support President Bush's handling of the War in Iraq"
And we all know the answer...

Peter, would you truly said something if your teacher said that?

Even though it is pretty hard for a student to compete with a teacher in a political discussion, if you do disagree, you probably should say something about it. Just approach it politely and sensitively.
I don't think it's bad for a teacher to state her opinion, just don't teach it as the right way to think.

in some way i have to agree with what she said about the electorial colleges because its the electorial votes that decide. and the electorial college also decides which votes count, so i guess in some way, they decide.
