I assume that I'm not the only person on NG who can't stand this whole "Atkins Craze!" I'm just sick of walking into a place and seeing nothing but "Low Carbs" this, or "Reduced Carbs" that. People nowadays in America are too lazy (or maybe too dumb) to actually exercise for a couple of minutes, and at least eat a bit. People now look for quick ways to end their problems, and I guess that's what the Low Carb Diet does.

If anyone believes any of that crap for two seconds, then that is very sad. Example, I have seen Low Carb Jerky, Burgers, Pizza, Candy, Soda, Ice Cream, Chips, and even Fried Chicken. Maybe the reason so many people are fat is not due to carbs, but because they eat nothing but Jerky, Burgers, Pizza, Candy, Soda, Ice Cream, Chips, and even Fried Chicken!

And the fact that so many foods have "fewer carbs" is even suspicious. Exactly how can one packet of beef jerky have no carbs, while another is packed full of them? Unless the modify the crap out of it, (which sounds down right disgusting) I just see two different colored packs of beef jerky, not two completely different packs.

But this is my favorite thing. Fast food joints are now offering low carb choices. And what says "Healthy and Good For You" like Fast Food? But the funniest thing about it is the food sometimes cost the same, or even more then it's "high carb" counterparts. It also makes me question some things, like "Well, what's the worst thing on a Quarter Pounder With Cheese? The bun, or the greesy, fattening 1/4 pound piece of meat?" I guess it's just resturant's way's to keep customers following a diet in. But sometimes, things just get way too stupid, as in the case of "Low Carb Pizza," at Chuck-E-Cheeses! COME ON! If your kid is too fat to fit in the little pipes and ball pit, then maybe they should put the friggen fork down, and get their asses off the couch!

I guess we can add this o the never ending list of "Retarded Diets!" Like The "Subway Diet," "Juice Smoothy Diet," and even annorexia! But because I need a cheap laugh, what's the funniest thing you've seen that's "Low Carb," or exactly what do you find funny about this whole thing?

That's about all the bitching I can do about this topic!

I agree completly with your rant.

People dont realize that they need carbs. If you are going to excersie you need carbs for energy. You cant do much without em. Also, carbs help reduce depression. Eating carbs realises seratonin ( chemical in your body that makes you feel good) which is why fat people eat when they are sad, they like the seratonin. So the reason why the atkins diet eliminates carbs is becuase eating carbs makes you want to eat more carbs, thus making you over eat, in order to fullfill your seratonin craving. However, for clinically obese people they atcually give them a pure carb drink, so that they dont feel like they need any more seratonin and can eat healthyer smaller portions (kinda like a nicotine patch almost.)

Carbohydrates = sugars.
Sugars = energy source of all life.
No energy = dead.

The Aitkins diet doesn't work - it makes you lose weight in the first couple of months, but then your body goes into overdrive, regains its glycogen stores, and through general lack of exercise, turns straight back into fat.

Oh yeah - it's worth mentioning that Dr Aitkins died of a heart attack in his 50's, through suspicious causes that are thought to relate to him actually following his own diet. If you want to lose weight? Do your exercise - drink plenty of water - eat your fruit instead of chocolate bars, and make sure you have a good decent variety... and don't eat gigantic portions.

Any diet that says it's fine to have 50 fry-ups to me, is a poor one.

I hate the term "lose weight" as well - unless you're a trained fighter and have to make a weight for a fight - it's pointless. Going by body mass/fat ratio is better... you can be 1kg and STILL look a mess in terms of fat proportion...

Your weight can change DRAMATICALLY AND MASSIVELY according to the conditions when you weigh yourself - such as water content of your body, time of day, whether you've excreted/urinated, when you last ate... etc. And it's very very hard to keep consistant weightings to measure yourself...

People seem to forget exactly how much water weighs. A litre of water weighs exactly 1 kilogram. If you drink say, 2 litres of water, which is fairly normal to do in a day - boom. You've put on 2kgs. If you eat a couple of pies, some chips, beans and maybe a side salad, as well as a breakfast and some sort of lunch - you're adding another couple of kilos to that.... when you shit/piss it out of your system, you're back to normal again.

The point is - if you think you're fat, you've got to burn the fat, not "lose weight". Go for a fat-burn run you lazy arses.

I agree that this craze is retarded, but the atkin's diet does work to lose weight if done Properly. The problem is, people aren't doing it properly and are just using it as an excuse to eat a bunch of shit like 10 low carb hotdogs that just happen to be extremely high in fat.

Low fat diets and Low Carb dies will help you lose weight for sure, but you still gotta lower calories. The problem with the craze is that people just think as long is it's low carb, its ok to eat mass quantities of low carb junk food even if its super high fat.

But the best thing of all is eat better and exercise more. This way you'll end up healthier and in better shape. With a Low Carb diet you'll probably end up losing weight, but you'll also look real flabby by the end of it because you'll lose a lot of muscle mass.

The children of America are getting fatter and fatter because of increased amounts of sugar in their diet. Carbs = sugar. Sugar = raises blood sugar level, causes diabetes, triggers insulin, which accelerates fat storage. This is an increasing problem that's been going out of control in the past 20 years.

Sugar = horrible. Most carbs = not good unless you exercise a lot. Complex carbs, fiber, whole grains = good.

Most importantly, carbs + fat at the same time = very very bad, as the blood sugar spike brings in the insulin which immediately starts binding to the fats and wheee, you get fatter and fatter.

Many fats, such as those found in fish oils, are very very healthy and important, and it's much better to be eating a ton of salmon and tuna every day than a shitload of white bread and so forth. So yes, it makes sense that reducing carbs, and not eating carbs with fat = a good way to not add to your fat stores.

I would guess that they're exactly the same, and they're just packaging some of it to appeal to the low-carb fad-followers. That, or the regular beef jerky is loaded with added sugar. Sounds strange, but it wouldn't surprise me. Sugar gets added to everything. The sugar lobby is the evilest entity in this country.

Like I just explained, it's both together. Eating just the bun, or just the meat... is far far better than eating them both together.

You're also not supposed to drink water or anything during meals, I believe.

What's even more funnier is that there are burgers without buns being made at fast food places. The last time I recall, health experts said to eat alot of bread. Now bread is supposely the devil.

preach on brotha im fucking tired of all this low carb crap, when all you need is to exercise, which is what most people dont do and expect to lose 30 pounds in 2 weeks. now that i work at a grocery stroe i notice this low carb shit more and boy is it fucking lame, low carb fucking ice cream for fucks sake, well i hope all you people on the carb diet getting fucking huge and you can leave the house that will help us, or better yet have a fucking heart attack so we can rid our society of idiots.

i completly agree, for the most of my life i have been fat but just in the past couple years i got rid of it. to get fat you do have to eat an unnecessary amout of shit. after being fat and seeing how much you have to eat to get there i am now discusted by fat people.
i hate the low carb hype, i just ate well and worked out and shit. pretty fucking basic just dont eat a shit load of bad foods

Heh. I am the skinniest person in my family, want to know why?
I only eat when I am hungry, and I stop eating after I don't feel hungry.
So basically, NEVER stuff yourself, and stop eating after you feel content.

I have been lean and healthy because of this.

LOL i never beleive in that crap and i never will the real way to loose fat is to stay fit and eat healthy foods at mc donalds which they say r healthy but i can taste some fat in there
