That's such bullshit. How is dancing martial arts? I bet they don't even fight that well...

Looks like there doing a kata on 3 hits of acid.

Basically it remembles a kata to me. Some training centers don't teach katas anymore. That one's a little weird though and it's not even close to traditional ones.

It does resemble a kata, but it's all about doing flips and punches to please the audience. That shouldn't really be called Karate, which is what they've called it on the show....repeatedly.

Yeah true, maybe there just saying Karate because thats what most people are familiar with. I've known a lot of people who refer to Martial Arts as Karate not knowing that Karate is just one style to a huge range of different martial arts.

It's like speaking in layman's terms for the less educated minds/viewers

Well, I havent been here in a while.

I think I'm gonna start posting again. Due to the fact that I just got promoted from Orange to Green Belt in Isshin Ryu Karate yesterday. It was nice. I already have learned alot of green belt stuff such as katas ( wan-su , son chin ) and the bow katas. Good stuff.

Technically black. My school has a "junior black belt" program, which basically means, you are ready for black belt testing, but too young. You have to be 16 to get it, and I was 13. I'm recieving the regular black belt in November after loads of testing, beatings, practicing, and more beatings.

thats cool. I love the Isshin Ryu style. Chotoku Kyan is one of my hero's as well. Just to see how such a little small man could be such a great fighter, its amazing. Who's your favorite master besides Tatsuo?

To: narf109 -

I got Ozcar's reply to that PM I sent him about a possible MMA club on NG.
PM me if you want the details.

BTW, I love the re-design. But it'll take me awhile to get used to it, and to update my profile.

Yea, good point.
I have a question. Did you have a problem with tokamine and bow to bow cause I have a feeling I am.

Tokamine no kun is a hard one, and I sometimes have problems with it. What problems do you have with it?

Well, I have a problem, I always have trouble remembering to switch my hand positions and then I have trouble with getting my bow to smoothly slip through my hand easily. I think I need to wax it.

Sounds pretty cool. I've honestly never heard of that style and it seems like a pretty hard style to master. I mean it takes a ton of work to get in the habit of just hitting a few pressure points in one strike so I'm pretty sure an entire style dedicated to that has got to be a hard one to master. And I would take you in one hit so does that mean I'm better than your master. :p

Yeah, when narf first came here, I misinterpreted his post when he decided to join. I thought he was being a jerk, and treated him accordingly. But, he did in fact continue to post; and he clarified his position. The instant he did that, I changed my attitude towards him. (I have posted in the past that there are individual MMA practioners who are respectable. But I guess satan couldn't find that post). My experience is not limited to MMA forums. I refuse to go into detail, but suffice it to say, I've had more than "a few" bad experiences..... with regard to MMA fans, practioners, and yes.... even a ref. No, I'm not kidding. And I don't mean during a match. The ref was probably the worst of them all! A two-faced jerk who went around pretending to be a nice guy, and I fell for it! He nearly screwed me out of my job.

Every time I've gone to a United Karate tournie I've been fucked out of placement because of in house politics and attitude problems fueled by egotism. Does this mean I'm going to have a hissy fit if I meet a martial artist that attends a United school? Probably not.

But back to narf..... When things were clarified and settled, here comes satan throwing gasoline on the fire. Hell, it wasn't even a fire by then. More like a few smoking pieces of charcoal that were dying out. Nice timing. And, even though both narf and I have moved on, satan keeps bringing up how I treated him at first! WTF?! Ironically, it looks like I've got another MMA fan who's contributing to my, overall, negative experience regarding MMA. Ain't that funny??

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I haven't been here in a while because I've had other priorities lately. When I do get the chance to come in and catch up on things I'd hope that you would want me to post on everything instead of skipping to the latest topic so that you guys don't miss out on my opinions. Because we all know how much you value someone else's opinion, Mono. I am NOT another MMA fan contributing to your experience, I am a Hapkidoist that is pissed off because you treated someone with little respect. It has nothing to do with the sport. I hate to say this, but I do agree with DSM. We should be the ones pissed off at him for spamming us with his life story while he's bitching about our "novels." Families fight too bro, lets drop it and move on.

My next move? I'm going to PM Ozcar about allowing an MMA fan club. However, I've noticed that he doesn't seem to be active on NG, right now. I don't blame him for taking a break. When he comes back, he'll find that message waiting for him. After I PM him, the ball's going to be in his court; and out of my hands.

On the flip side, thank you SO much for helping Narf with getting his club started. You are an ass at times, but its far less than the times when you're a decent guy.

OMG NG looks soooo pretty! *drools*

Sara no offense but I don't give a dick about what you think about my post. I post things that happen in my life regarding martial arts. It is an expression of how I feel about my art, and the way I feel my art is changing, whether it be for the worse or the better.

As far as your novels I don't exactly bitch about them. I just find that it gets discouraging to read 10 post that are each long enough to write a report on. And to be honest, why are you even bringing up the whole thing about the MMA club now. That was over a week ago. it may not seem that way since the club is slow, but it is over now.

Mono I know you have brought this up before, but I honestly forgot, how is RBSD's sparring done. I know it isn't run the same way as TKD or Karate but how is it done there. And for that matter how is it done in Hapkido. I mean online I've seen things where people charge one person and the guy just flips and strikes anyone that attacks them. I have done Hapkido but not sparred with it so I really don't know from experience.

Traditional Hapkido sparring involves defending yourself from random attacks. Instead of blocking a punch and using it to get in like you would in point sparring we would get out of the way of it, redirect and take the attacker down with a joint lock or throw. It really depends on where you're training in Hapkido. I've been to places that train point sparring just for the sport aspect. Our other Hapkido guy might have something completely different and Rhae might be able to add something that I left out.

Muai Thai is the baddest form of martial arts in history. I presonally like wrestling above all even though it isn't considered martial arts, it's the baddest of all fighting styles. The Perfect style would be the striking of Muai Thai, using fists, knees, elbows, and feet equally. With the ground work and submissions of wrestling.

Do you practice Muay Thai or are you just an enthusiast about the art. And do you mean Jujitsu when you say wrestling or more of a western/greek style of wrestling.

I'd say it's more of a combonation. Dancing, gymnastics, cardio kickboking with just a tiny bit of real martial arts influince thrown in. Yeah, pretty gay. But what's funny is I teach martial arts, gymnastics and am certified to teach cardio kickboxing :P Damcing is my sisters thing.

I'll think about it, I've recently come into some clip art resources so maybe we could edit one that already looks cool to come up with a unique symbol.

So I was wondering, what are some key differences between wrestling, jujitsu and judo?

So I was wondering, what are some key differences between wrestling, jujitsu and judo?

To me they only seem similar with the fact that it's more based on control of movement and balance.

Wrestling requires more strength and flexibility where Judo is more technique and throws.

Jujitsu is ground control. You and the opponent are already on the ground and now your just looking to have the edge and thats where it comes in handy.

I just went general there, nothing too specific, but it should answer your question

I am just an enthusiast and I mean western style. But none of the fake wwf crap. I'm talking like olympic style. But mo greco-roman. In greco-roman you cant really use your lower body. Muai Thai is just so cool because the object of it is to brutalize your opponent. SHOW THEM NO MERCY!!!!!! lol

There are a few minor variations on the same theme, depending on which type of RBSD you take.

Generally, Full-on / Full-contact sparring. Some places use a shitload of safety gear and plenty of layers of it. Others use minimalist safety gear. The latter is something I don't agree with. Often results in too many injuries. I don't have to tell you how much of a headache that can be. You get injuried, and you can't train for sometimes a few months. To me, that's counter-productive.

The rest of the sparring is scenario-based. There are some face-to-face confrontations. But mostly attacks are launched at oblique angles, and often with multiple "attackers." The sort of things you're most likely to encounter on the streets.
