Agreed....... However, from what he was describing, (and yes, I too had some difficulty understanding his post) it sounded like he attended a martial arts class in which the instructors were teaching garbage that was marketed as self-defense. To me, that is a horribly irresponsible thing to do!

Someone who doesn't have experience in Martial Arts, goes to a M.A. Instructor to lean effective self-defense, then gets taught garbage such as "If you're a woman who gets attacked by a man, grab him, use your weight to take both of you down to the ground, then kick him with your more powerful leg muscles," sorry; but I'll be the first one to stand up and say, "Are you retarded?! Why should she make it easier for her attacker to rape her?"

Seems to me, that's what he encountered! Don't know if he stood up and called the Instructor on it. Hope he did, though. Forget showing respect, some instructors aren't even worth spitting on. It's not to boost one's self up by putting others down. It's about calling it like it is. If everyone else says there's a tall man in a fur coat who needs a shave, walking up behind you....... Fuck that! I'm going to tell it like it is! There's a fucking bear sneaking up behind you!

Ah I got something good to say but it is to hard to formulate it in words. I was thinking of giving a one liner of a guy who cums to fast with a hooker but leaves a lasting impression. Can't put it into words though so o well.

I have to agree with what everyone is saying about TKD, if you look back it orignally was kind of the base art for many of the branch arts that we have today. It is the reason that you have certain moves in certain arts and it is the reason that some arts were evern created.

Also TKD has done a shift in resent years sence XMA got really big but that doesn't mean all TKD has gone to pot. I got to a TKD school where I learn some badass self defense and I can honestly say its worked because, I have nearly been RAPED before and if it wasn't for TKD self defense I would have been rape maybe murdered and in worst shape than I was. I thank it everyday, it most rightfully saved my freakin life. So don't ever talk bad about an art that you have only seen in a belt factory school.

Sorry, it takes a whole lot to piss me off, I'm very mild mannered and I generally don't get angry at anything. But here is a sensative subject. So think twice about what you think of Tae Kwon Do and remember this you pissed off me, that is nearly impossible. You can ask my fellow classmates and friends, me being pissed off only happens maybe once a year.

Thank you, I'll check into him.

Mono-

I give up....just read the damn book. Where did you hear this info about Jon Boyd and do you have a copy of it? I havent heard anything about him since he was arrested. He was a really good friend of mine.

I totally forgot you were Russian lol

DSM-

People put Tae Kwon Do signs up on their schools beause people KNOW what it is. Its a fucking Olympic sport. If you put Martial arts up on the sign its going to be stereotyped with the shit you see in movies or in cartoons. They arent pretending to pratice TKD or know what it is, its a marketing gimick. If I put Hapkido up on our sign nobody would know what it is unless they've played Mortal Kombat, and then it would be stereotyped with flips and spins too. I wasnt dening TKD an art, if you've seen one TKD test you've seen them all. Its 6 hours of nothing but kicking and punching, and if you've been to an areobics class you know that sounds familiar. Butterfly kicks should not be considered tricking or gymnastics, infact, most martial artists that know what the hell they're talking about would never consider a butterfly kick a flip. Butterflies originated in Wushu, a very traditional Chinese art. Jet Li made this art popular. It might look fancy, but it has very effective self defense techniques. I would consider backflipping in a form tricking because it has no use. TKD does have useful techniques for self defense, people have proved that as FlyingJ put it. Just because everyone is familiar with TKD doesnt mean it is the be all and end of of the martial arts world or denie other arts their titles. As you once told Mono, get off your pedistool.

Flash-

Welcome to the MAC. The stuff your instructor was talking about sounds like MMA which is the stuff fighters do in the UFC. Most of the UFC fighters have training in traditional arts, but in the UFC its more for entertainment. I dont think it has much use for self defense in the world. One problem with going to an on capmus MA club is that the instrucor is likely an unexperienced 21 year old kid thats only been training for a few months.

There is nothing wrong with Tae Kwon Do, it has its strenghts and weaknesses just like EVERY martial art.

There is nothing wrong with tricking so long as the school teaches a firm martial arts base and makes the distinction.

Just for the record i made shin and pie post. I've bugged shin for a while and I told pie we where talking about him.

Now just because TKD is in the Olympics does not make it any less of an art. I mean one main thing in the ITF is that it should not be in the Olympics because people view it less of an art for it. You may view it as nothing but kicking and punching but I dont and i never will.

And just because something is considered tricking does not mean it cant be used in self defense. I mean I've seen things where a 720 was used in self defense and worked well. A butterfly kick could be considered tricking as well. Does that mean its unpractical? Of course not, but what im trying to say is tricking does not dismiss it from being practical. Although back flip isnt to practical its not like it wouldnt be ideal for some situations.

*raises his hand*

I agree completely, DSM go wank yourself elsewhere.

The TKD test Ill have to do involves Hapkido throws, Kickboxing, Ju jitsu, and then traditional TKD. So NYAH!

A Butterfly Kick is not a 'flip' at all, in fact the majority of the flips that trickster's do are ma based. The Butterfly Kick has been around a LONG time in Kung Fu, as has the Butterfly Twist. I could go on a long rant but I doubt people would listen. Im not sure they are listening now anyway. :p

Wow what a disgrace of a place to train, for womens self defence I NEVER tell my women they should go to the ground with an attacker. Its more the idea of rip their throat out, yank an eye out, groin shot and run like hell. Not to say it isnt helpful a woman know what to do on the ground. I think its very suggestable because women are much more likely to be attacked and end up in that position.

I also agree completely, UFC stuff is great but very far from what you would actually need in a real fight. Not to say a train UFC fighter isnt going to be dangerous, but they arent the be all end all. It has its uses but its not based on self defence, its based on fighting.

Flying-J unless you really want to get into an arguement and look like a grown man who just got sodomized by a 10 year old boy I suggest you dont open your mouth and try to start something with me. I will make you look like an ass for 20 pages so you best back off.

O and wait did i ever tell you what my testings involve beside hapkido, kicking, sparring, endurance, terminology and philosophy, forms. O wait i didnt because last i checked, doing martial arts is not about bragging on what you have to do.

I never ONCE called butterfly kick a flip. It could be considered tricking but it is not a flip. Not everything in tricking is flips, a hell of alot of it is spinning.

To flash frozen okay so if things that only end in jutsu are arts then if you watch Naruto there are about a million new fucking arts that are invented invented every day. O wait what about Bushido isnt that an art. Or maybe the translation of Tae Kwon Do meaning "The art of hand in foot" has something to do with it. I mean then we gotta dismiss Tang Su Do as an art as well. Or Kali and hapkido. So you might want to keep low before i make you look worse.

But I will....

And also since it needs to end with system i have an entire art right in front of me. My COMPUTER SYSTEM. O and my playstation computer system. Yo if you are gonna go out and say an art isnt an art try to say more than "my name is flashfrozen and i think i am great because i want to diss a martial art without actually knowing shit about them."

OK first up NARUTO IS A FUCKING CARTOON!!!!1 an funny silly good time cartoon BUT A FUCKING CARTOON.

2 Bushido means WAY of the warrior

3 Tang Su Do is WAY of chinese hand

4 the main difrence betwen a Do/ Way and an art is that whall arts only care about how well smothing works do care about developing a good person they were mostly created during the WWII time so that some of the ARTS could be perzved and taught openly.

o and about the "my name is flashfrozen and i think i am great because i want to diss a martial art without actually knowing shit about them."

dsmking your 18 and think you are a qualfide instroucter i dont care if you started when your in the fucking womb no 18 year old has enought time in any system to make that clame. in short your poopey and mean :P

wtf, you guys, what the fuck. i expected more oughta this place. i mean come on, letting those n00bs talk about TKD that way.

first of, flash frozen- jutsu doesnt not mean its an art, jutsu means skill, or technique, so 'vaccum-jutsu' would mean techniques of using the vaccum. do does mean way, but it was translated into art to make it a bit easier for westerners to understand. when you use jutsu and do to refer to the arts, you use jutsu to refer to the techniques used, while you use 'do' to refer to the art itself. besides, Tae Kwon Do is Korean, so the meaning for Do might be completely diffrent there.

the rest of you? all i have to say is that, as martial artists you should understand that its the Artist that makes the Art, not the Art that makes the Artist. now come on, bashing on Tae Kwon Do? its probably the BEST art for beginers to take, simply because it is so open, and i have no doubt in my mind that if someone sincerely pursued it to better themselves as a fighter then they would be one HELL of a fighter.

hope you guys dont mind this, i just had to vent a little after I was directed here by someone. the person wasnt exactly happy with what was going on, either.

DSM-

Have you ever watched the Presidental debates? Sometimes it sounds like both parties are arguing the exact same thing but no matter what the other side is ALWAYS wrong. That is what we sound like. You're saying that exact same thing I just did. I never ever said TKD was shit becaue its in the Olympics. To make myself clear I never said it was shit at all. I said that because TKD is in the Olympics people know what it is. I didnt say 720s or btwists are useless or gymnastics, I said they are part of a martial art. They can be practical in self defense situations. Do you ever read the entire post before responding to it? Do not insult my boyfriend, he was calling you an ass because you are. You keep preaching about how your art is the ultimate art and how other respectable arts such as RBSD are not. If this isnt how you intended to come off as you might want to fix that, because you are.

Flying-

I heard something a long time ago about a martial arts insturctor getting shot by the Father of a kid he molested. I never found out who it was exactly but I havent heard anything about Jon being dead. I know you're starting to get into TKD with the guys but I didnt know you were getting into Hapkido. Can I throw you? :P

Flashfrozen-

I am kind of confused by your post, you arent very clear so Im going to give you a chance to explain yourself before I call you an idiot. I have no doubt that DSM is an instructor, and a very good one at that. I am a 16 year old girl and I taught at my old school for 4 years. Unless you know the person in person you have no idea how much time they have in their art. Most people judge a martial artist by the time they have in classes. Thats what...an hour a day a couple nights a week? For us to become good instructors and be dedicated we have so much more time in than what you think. I was training close to 6 hours a day every day of the week. From what DSM says he trains that much too. Yeah, DSM is mean and poopey, but I have no doubt he is a great instructor.

Tsuchiya-

Howdy! Now we got the whole crew back together! But judging by your post I take it your not staying? Nobody is bashing TKD, except this new guy. DSM was the one that wanted to start deciding which arts to call arts. But Im not one to point fingers. :P Great to hear from ya, I just wish it were under better circumstances.

Wow...just wow...are you mentally challenged? I mean I hate beating on retard kids but still. Ive argued with you before, you quite plainly sir are an idiot.

If you had bothered to check the time stamp on my post and yours you would realize the majority of it was directed at Satan's post, but that would require you paying attention to your surroundings. Ill start off simple enough, listen carefully.

I was stating for testing in response to Satanic saying all TKD exams are the same, not bragging, if I wanted to do that I would simply post up some of the stuff I do at tournaments, or other things Ive done. You forget sir that I too trick, you didnt read my post or youd know that. I know damned well that the majority of tricks are spinning. wtf do you think my cartwheel into full is, or my b-twist into 720 kick? Twat.

A butterfly kick as well as a butterfly twist are actually both used as evasions and are not offensive in the slightest. Did we learn something? No probably not.

You were stating that TKD is apparently so very grand correct? Its a great art but any martial artist that is worth their salt realizes that one art is not everything. I practice a form of Karate but dont assume its all Ill ever need. I do tons of different arts. Open up your mind and stopped being a close minded little shit.

Ive witnessed exactly what Satan was talking about where the Tae Kwon Do name was put on the front door to attract students. The exact same thing is done with Karate. Its not new, it doesnt mean that any one art is any better, just the name is more widely recognized. Actually get off your ass and go out and just look around.

Now then, bring it you pre-pubescent cunt. I dont take kindly to being attacked, go ahead...make me look like an idiot for twenty pages. Your the actual retard here everyone knows it except you. My one suggestion is that you stop being so biased, as I said TKD rocks, probably is my favorite art. Dont assume it is everything though.

And once again...fuck off. Asshat.

Ooookkkaayyyyyyy.....now I know what you guys were talking about when you kept bringing up flaming...

I don't know why anyone would look down at Tae Kwon Do, my school got a kid that was in TKD for 3 years, he can hold his own against our 3 year people, his only real problem is that he tries to go too fast, but I doubt thats from TKD. Heck, this kid OWNS in sparring, one minute he throwing punches at, and our just blocking them all, then all of a sudden you have a spin cresent kick to he head to deal with!

Look I dont view RBSD as an art because its not. Its a very good self defense, but its not really an art it is used soley for self defense.

Im not saying TKD is the ultimate art, in fact I dont recall ever saying that. Now I may talk about TKD alot because, well, it is pretty much the only art I practice. I do practice others but not so much.

Now flying-j. Do you really have to go out and say all those nice words to me such as calling me a cunt or asshat. It really just makes you look like a little kid. As satanic said you dont know how much I practice or how knowledgable I am in my art. I can tell you how much i practice and how much I teach right now if it will make any difference to you. I've been doing TKD for 6-7 years and i practice constantly.

When i first started I took 4 days a week and some days i would take two classes. My master instructor came up to me when I got my Bo-Dan(belt right before black) and asked me if I wanted to teach. Of course I didnt start teaching, but i learned how to teach. This was when i was 14. I didnt even get my Black Belt yet when my master said that i teach well enough to teach on my own. So i would take my own groups of class and would teach. After I got my 1st degree I started getting my own classes and its been that way for about 4 years. I constantly am practicing.

I go to TKD a couple hours early everyday to practice because if I expect my students to get better, I need to get better myself so I can teach them more. After about 5 hours of classes I usually stay for an extra half-hour or an hour practicing. But if i have sparring or instructors class that day it is usually about an hour and a half. I know every form that my school teaches, even the forms that are not of my rank(higher). I also know many Hapkido techniques and all of the one steps(which is Hapkido cept in smaller sets).

I do alot of research myself on the History of the art as well as philosophies on the forms so that i can tell my students about them. If a student ever needs help on anything TKD related or not, I will go out of my way to help them and if I feel they really dont need the help I will tell them that they dont need me for it and they should try themselves, in order to make them stronger.

Now I know people put TKD or karate on their schools since they are the most well known art to non-martial artist. If you read what i said i was referring to how that can give TKD a bad reputation due to the fact people who dont do TKD or probably any real martial arts for a matter, will call themselves that and make the art look bad. It also does the same for Karate.

See flying i didnt have to go out of my way 1 time to call you any names but nearly posted my resume of TKD on how I teach, practice, and my beliefs on it. I felt no need to call you a cunt, or an asshat. I could call you ignorant but see i dont feel like ruining the point I tried to bring across that just because I'm not older does not mean I can't teach. I will say this though, you definitely need to grow up if you had to call me a cunt and an asshat in order to make yourself look better. Im very proud of you,

Most of the things I said was referring to flash cause he was dismissing anything that does not have system or jutsu at the end of it is not an art. O and one last litle thing. Do can also mean way. It has a variety of meanings so I think you should research your topic before you go and say something.

There is my longest post ever.

DSM-

Shit...Im impressed. You're first novel. Congrats! What style of Hapkido do you practice or are familar with? My old style has 25 one steps (Ill soo shik derion) and they were needed for black belt. A question for the other members- Do you guys have one steps in your arts and why do you practice them?

We used them for technique repition so that the basic techniques come naturally in a threatening situation. GM Jae has the philosophy that self defense should be kept basic, once you start getting fancy with it you start fucking up.

Do we have any kind of guidelines for allowing members to join? It is a martial arts club for martial artists specifically. If RBSD isnt an art by that standard we should kick him out. I would petition any member that attempted to do so and would hunt you down and torture you until your painful demise but still....in my opinion there are 3 different types of martial art. The competitive arts, the self defense arts, and the arts based on spiritual growth. An art can be two at the same time or just one cateogry specifically. Its the new age, evolution happens in the martial arts world too. It isnt just about spiritual growth and being a better person. I see no reason why RBSD cant be called a martial art.

Yes, I think we can all agree that DSM is mean and poopy (lol :P), can we move on with our lives now?

----------

Ts:
If your reading this, good to see you post again :)
I have to say you put it better than anyone when you said:

the Artist that makes the Art, not the Art that makes the Artist.

To which I agree with to an extent. It is the individual practitioner who makes it artistic but I can imagine scenarios where a dicipline doesn't allow growth into an art.

------------

Satan:
I believe you forgot one catigory, I was reading your post and the only one that fit me was the self defence aspect but there's more to it than that. In my style we do competition but it's not part of my style, spiritualality isn't part of it either. I do a self defence art but there is much more to it than just self defence, I also practice my art for arts sake.

I don't practice katas because I want to compete with them or because I think it will help with my self defence (though it very well could), I practice them because I want to make them look better, I want to be a great artist.

just a random thought :)

SuperSexySkittles:
You will now be known (to me at least) as: SSS!

or I gues I could just call you super, or whatever...

I do remember you, I can't remember when you joined though so I'm not sure what all has happened. We have some new members and a couple of old ones have posted just recently, that's about it, welcome back :)

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I just thought you all should know :)

*Gets ready to heave giant barrel of Black Powder onto the flames.... then reconsiders.*

At the very least, it would be a waste of good gun powder.
I'm still not sure how we got to this point. Someone jokingly said that TKD isn't an actual Art. Then the newest member actually believed the post was a serious one. Then for some bizarre reason, 2 of the biggest TKD practioners in the club got pissed at each other. Huh?

I know that DSM doesn't consider R.B.S.D. to be a real Art. His opinion doesn't bother me. Learning practical self defense techniques that require (usually) months to master, instead of years, leaves me with time for other things. I'd like to say, for having fun with my friends. But honestly, I explore other aspects of self defense. Currently, a deeper look into improvised weapons.

Hopefully we can move on to better topics.

I'd put something witty here, but that would be pointless and unoriginal.

3 things:

1) Stop Flaming noobs. Take that to the outside forums.

2) I can't come very often cuz of school work, so I won't be here much this week. (Other than that, I'm making the black belts look so bad, cuz I'm like on a "Whole 'Nuthe Level!", Mad TV)

3) sick Capoeira vid (these guys have such good control of their body. I've hate to get into a fight with one)
