Hmm....... Don't you hate it when you take the time to copy a URL properly, but the link doesn't work anyway. Oh well, here's a backdoor:
1) www.surefire.com (Please read the rest before clicking).
2) Click where it says "flashlights," under PRODUCTS.
3) Scroll down to the Model called "G2Z Combatlight. (Such cute marketing).
4) Click on the pic of that particular flashlight.
5) In the middle column, you'll see a link called "G2Z True Stories." Click on it, and it'll take you to the page that you should have been taken to; in the link in my last post.
Once again, enjoy! :)

lol, nice links mono, i liked that "when morons attack" best. those reminded me of the big minispotlight things, that had like a million candlelight power, and my brother would shine it at peoples houses when we were little. thats a little less practical self defense wise though.
its been really dry for topics lately... so.. summers coming.. does that really affect training for any of you? i live in the desert so things are going to be HOT (its already like 70s and 80s here, in the summer it goes up into the 100s). im not going to let that stop me though, the grandmaster said once that no matter what, you should always keep training, because you need to be adaptable to every circumstance that might arise, so im going to do my best to make every lesson i can.

Basically, it's a club for anyone with a serious interest in martial arts. Or for any NG user who has a martial arts related question. (Although we rarely get users coming in just to ask questions).
One thing you will NOT see here is topics such as "Ninjas vs. Pirates, who would win in a fight?"
Take a look at the last couple of pages, and let us know if you'd like to join.

LOL ........... Yeah, my favorite one is also "When Morons Attack." Most of those Surefires are like having a portable sun in the palm of your hand. Nowadays, they use the term "lumens" instead of "candlepower." A standard mini-maglite has it's lumens in the single-digits. (Probably around 8 lumens). Most of the Surefire models that you can use to temporarily blind an attacker are from 60 - 120 lumens. (For the pocket-sized models).
One good tactic, if you have a powerful light, is to shine it in your attacker's eyes; then kick his legs out from under him and run away! You don't even have to use the light itself as an impact weapon. (Obviously, this works better at night or in any low-light condition). Besides, what are they going to do, ban flashlights??
Training during the Summer is a lot easier than it used to be........ crank up the Air Conditioner! Or just take your shirt off when outside, and give the ladies a thrill. ;)

you could shine them in the face and if they pull back it wouldnt take much pushing on their upper torso to knock them over. (thats assuming that they lean back and take a few steps back too, a shove would keep them from gaining their balance)
i dont know if this place has air conditioning, the owner says its better to sweat, that you circulate better, so i dont think we can get him to turn on the air conditioning, maybe when it gets freakishly hot, but for the next month or 2 i cant see that happening.. and good one, give the ladies a thrill, i dont exactly have a 6-pac if you know what i mean.
and is it just me, or is everyone else getting a bunch of pop-ups now? its only happened on NG to me, and this is first time...

Actually, that's not a bad idea about giving an attack a shove; once you temporarily blind him.
Not only is keeping the AC off good for the circulation, but it's also good for saving $$$, during the Summer-time. ;)
Actually, I have noticed a few more pop-ups lately. And my pop-up blocker is definitely getting a workout......... But I guess that's just the price you pay for a free account.

did you expect anything less from me? :p
i dont mind no AC right now, but like i said this summer things are going to heat up big time, but maybe if he would just open the doors and if i brought some water too that'll help.
what about a good diet to stay on while training alot? my eating habits havent changed and i seem to be just fine doing them, but it'll be nice to get fit while i do it too. i dont need to lost weight, but i dont want to run out of steam quickly either.
i asked that about the pop-ups because when i typed up my last post i got like 6 or 7 pop-ups while trying to do it, and last i checked my computer had no viruses, and it only happened then. hopefully its just a pretty rare thing

Sadly, things seem to have slowed down quite a bit at this club.........
Let's try this; I'll toss out a variety of related topics, and any of you can pick whichever one you want to discuss. (You can also return to this post to pick a new one). Here goes........
1) Any particular rules you would change, with regards to how tournaments are run?
2) If you ran your own school, what would you do differently from your Teacher?
3) If your main Art didn't exist, which other one would you concentrate on, and why?
4) Most pathetic fight you've ever witnessed (In any setting).
5) The single best Martial Arts book you've ever read. (And the worst one).
6) Your most humiliating martial arts experience. (Brave enough to share)?
7) Your favorite martial arts related website. (Tell us a bit about it too).
8) Have you discovered a particular Martial Arts technique that works well for self defense, based on your training? (Please share; in detail).
9) A good diet while you do a lot of training! .......... This idea obviously came from you, Ts. And I think it's a good one! :)
Okay guys, pick a topic and have at it!

1) Any particular rules you would change, with regards to how tournaments are run?
i would do it the old fashioned way, when they would just pit to guys against each other, and see who does it best.
2) If you ran your own school, what would you do differently from your Teacher?
more time. an hour a lesson just isnt enough for me, but id let there be a choice for people who wanted to keep going after an hour and those who didnt.
3) If your main Art didn't exist, which other one would you concentrate on, and why?
either JTK or the old kenjutsu schools in japan, or both. ive had my eye on 'Niten Ichi Ryu', the art that was founded by miyamoto musashi.
4) Most pathetic fight you've ever witnessed (In any setting).
umm..... theres a video online where i guy starts a fight with a big black guy and gets his ass whooped big time.
5) The single best Martial Arts book you've ever read. (And the worst one).
best- either "the book of 5 rings" by Musashi, or one of the ones by the ninjutsu grandmaster, i cant remember the name, its too long.
6) Your most humiliating martial arts experience. (Brave enough to share)?
ummm...... i cant really remember one... i remember once my brother (back when we did kempo) let out a big fart when he got knocked down, but thats not really me.
7) Your favorite martial arts related website. (Tell us a bit about it too).
www.winjutsu.com its got alot of info on ninjutsu and they have a quote of the day thing that i like reading alot.
8) Have you discovered a particular Martial Arts technique that works well for self defense, based on your training? (Please share; in detail).
not a specific technique, but my best advice would be to use distancing to your advantage.
9) A good diet while you do a lot of training! .......... This idea obviously came from you, Ts. And I think it's a good one! :)
thnx, i took a look around on my desk and thought that its more suited for a fat kid then me (2 chip bags, like 3 things of candy, soda)
10) i cant remember what it was so it cant be too important
11) the person i want to fight to fight most would be my good friend in WA that i took kenjutsu with, (assuming its not to the death), when i moved we decided we were going to become rivals and fight with each to always try and be better then the other one (since in washington we were the best at kenjutsu, except for our teacher of course, and we are going to pit our abilities agaisnt each other every chance we get.)
on a bad note, since not enough people signed up for it the ninjutsu seminar ive been looking forward too has been cancelled, but at least we get our money back.

Hey guys, wow its been a while since i've posted but it looks like i haven't missed much. Things here have really slowed down, i remember when i missed 2 days and had to catch up on 6 pages. But oh well.
One of your topics of discussion was your favorite martial arts website. I have many.
http://legacyma.com/
This is the website of the group that I train with now. We do a lot of cross training in different martial arts. Im actually on Team Legacy but Im new, so my pic and bio isnt up yet. We also do a good bit of XMA.
http://www.coldsteel.com/
This is the website of my favorite knife and sword company. I order all of my knives and swords from this company. I have never had any problems with them and their products are reliable and throughly tested.
http://www.hapkido.4t.com/
This is my favorite Hapkido website. They have a lot of good martial arts stories under the MA humor pages. And this website explains the history and some other things in Hapkido for the ones that have no clue what Hapkido is.
http://www.bilang.com/
This website has the best vids of XMA and tradish people. Most of the people that are on Bilang are big name martial artists or they are really good. Some of my favorite martial artists are Steve Terrada, Jackson Speildel, and Chloe Bruce, check them out.
And last but certainly not least- my website: www.myspace.com/plzspankme
This is my site on Myspace, yes myspace is not considered a martial arts website, but i do martial arts so it fits into this category. And some of my blogs are funny as hell.

Hello, I've decided to join this forum so I have something else to do while visiting, Newgrounds is perhaps my favorite site, and I visit almost everyday. I'll probably post at least once each day, so expect to hear from me often. I'll also be sure to reply to anything sent in my direction. I am a Tae Kwon Do practitioner. My club is part of the Universal Taew Kwon Do Federation. I have Tae Kwon Do as a High school class (ain't that cool?). Our class is taught by a 7th degree Black Belt (a very good-natured man) who was taught by Grandmaster Han Cha Kyo, who was made a Master by General Choi himself (yeah, you probably don't care anyway). I have trained for 3 years and have a Blue Belt rank as of right now.

Welcome yosh and sapphire to the club. So what are your guys experiences in martial arts. i mean you talked about your master and all and thats great. Thats very good to talk about but what about yourself some more.
Myself im a 2nd dan going for my 3rd dan soon. So training needs to become harder(even though i dont know how i can do that at this point without dropping out of school). this is just too hard.
This is how I kick your ass in real life. Martial Arts Club

OOOO!! You know what... I might be able to start something here! Besides Tae Kwon Do, I have tried to learn a bit about other martial arts before trying another one (I plan to train in several to develope "my own style"). Could somone tell me perhaps the basic beliefs of their style (e.g. Tae Kwon Do has the tenets of: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverence, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit, Community Service, and Love/Compassion) or perhaps the basic principles of their fighting style (e.g. balance, thrust, counterforce, power, etc.)? (How's that for a topic? )

Experiences, hmm... Well, I have taken 6 tests (2 to go up one whole belt level). 4 of those involved breaking a single board with a kick. The first two involved side kicks, which I eventually succeeded in breaking the board both times, even though it took a few tries. The last two involved my styles devestating technique of the back kick, which I broke the board on the first try, both times. Besides that, I must say I'm either fortunate or lacking for not having gotten involved in a single fight with someone. I have, however, mentally prepared myself for such a time and have been anticipating for a while. My school life is stable, mostly. I persevere and show courtesy in school by working hard and letting the women off the bus and through the door first. At home, I get on this computer and visit newgrounds and/or wikipedia looking at new submissions, my favorites, games, and stuff on "King of Fighters" and "Street Fighter", both of which are fighting games (yeah, I'm sort of a martial arts nerd!). I'm especially fond of the music in Street Fighter, so I often search this site for it when I'm at the Audio Portal. My room stays in decent shape, I can mve around and not step on some piece of junk laying around. The basement, which is the realm from which I am now typing, is a bit of a mess. There are school documents all over the floor and on the computer desk. When I get on summer break, I plan to clean up. My favorite sport is raquetball, my favorite food is pizza, chinese beef with brocolli, and spagetti. My favorite day of the year is Christmas, my favorite NG series is Nuerotically Yours (just the Foamy parts :-). If you'd like to know more, just let me know and I'll make a website for ya! LOL!

i take ninjutsu (the real ninjutsu, not that "assassins of the night" BS that popular in movies), and in japanese, Nin means perseverance (also stealth, but the focus of ninjutsu is perseverence), so thats a major concept. it has some fairly major philisophical parts to it, which I cant get into (ive read some books but im no master) very well, but simply alot of it is based on perseverence. other then perseverence it would be survival, they say alot, its not important whether you win or lose, surviving is all that matters.
fighting wise, it uses alot of throws and jointlocks, but the focus is on using your entire body and to basically be in control throughout the fight. what i mean is.. if someone punches at us, we wont block it, we step back in to a side (doesnt matter which), and from there move in to do our attack. from a throw we would do things like let them throw us, but at the last second change that throw into an offensive move, and roll out of it so the throw doesnt get its full effect and they cant pin us down because we already escaped.
kind of hard to explain, at least for me, but i think thats the best i can do.

First off, Greetings to the 2 new members! (One of whom has already returned to post. A good sign). Hope you both become Regulars at the club. Things seemed to have picked up a bit. I think I'll return to my last post for topic ideas if they slow down again.
To: Ts -
Sorry to hear about your seminar being cancelled. I know you were looking forward to it.
To: satan-
Thank you for the links! I've spent the last few days over at www.bladeforums.com (If you like to talk about ANY knife related issue, including self defense, it's an excellent forum. I knew about it before, but didn't think much of it. Wade really turned me on to it. They have both pay & free accounts. The free accounts are actually quite good. The only things you can't do are use custom avatars or post pics). There's even a couple of traditional martial arts forums on there....... I figure Wade isn't going to mind me promoting another forum on NG, since he's the one who originally posted it on the General forum. He's known over there as WadeF........ I like alot of the knives from ColdSteel as well. But I recently found out a couple of things that bothered me. Camillius supplies ALL of ColdSteel's Carbon V blades, and they outright make some of ColdSteel's models; like the very popular SRK. (Not good, considering that Camillius has a spotty record of quality-control; at best)! A lot of ColdSteel's swords are made by a no-name company in Japan. Oh and, it turns out that Carbon V is a label. The truth is that it's actually a very old type of steel called 0170-6. (It's amazing what you can learn on Bladeforums. Trust me, those are not rumors or idle gossip).
To: DSM-
I'm sure you were just joking about dropping out. But on the bizarre chance you weren't, DON'T DO IT! I still see a couple of the guys I went to High School with. Chris dropped out, now he works as a construction worker. I found out from him that it's a myth that construction workers make good $$$. Stay in school! (Yeah I know, I sound like a PSA).
To: Sapphire7 -
Once again, welcome to the club. I study R.B.S.D. (Reality Based Self Defense). I left a rundown of my Art's basic beliefs on page 113 of this thread. Check the 3rd-to-last & the 2nd-to-last posts on that page. (You'll see why I didn't want to re-post it, again).
BTW, well we definitely have 2 things in common; I love Pizza & Foamy too! :)
Sadly, some of Foamy's shorts were deleted from NG on the same day you asked to join our club. (There's a possibility that Foamy's creator requested that they be removed). But don't worry, if you want to see any of the old episodes; go to this site. ==> www.friendsoffoamy.com

Yeah, I don't think most folks are aware of the close relationship that ColdSteel has with Camillius. Over-hyping an already good product is one thing. That's forgiveable. But to have another company with a spotty record of quality-control and a bad record of customer service, outright make your product for you; that's just not right. A ColdSteel SRK retails for about $60. Camillius makes it, but ColdSteel slaps their own name on it. A similar knife, also made by Camillius and with their name stamped on it, retails for about $35. All of a sudden the SRK isn't such a bargain...... And it's one of ColdSteel's most popular models! :O
On a sad note: One of my favorite sites no longer exists. the Martialist.com is gone! And I don't know if it will ever return. I've made links to a few of the excellent articles on that site before. A few hours before it vanished, I made a link to one of the best articles on there. Someone at bladeforums posted something about using a "non-lethal knife" against an attacker. :O
The article did a great job of demonstrating that there is no such thing as a "non-lethal knife." And the guy posted that he read the article. So, before it vanished, I was able to use that site to destroy a common martial arts myth; in the mind of one individual. (At least it went out on a high note). :'(

you could use a non-sharpened knife... that can be lethal if you use it right, but if your clumsy it could help..
the other day in ninjutsu we did something new.. instead of going back and to the inside of a punch, we went back and to the outside of one. theres no specialty to either one in ninjutsu, but we havent gone to the outside yet and i thought it was fun (albeit it a little hard to find a good opprotunity).
and back to the knife topic, we did a little stuff with knives that was cool enough to remember. we did a a defense agaisnt wrist grabs, we would just pull our wrists up and back and turn our hand to lock theirs without tieing up our fingers. we threw in the knives, we would use it to lock their hands, and when they lost balance we would go forward and cut them (we were using rubber knives so not actually cutting) whatever way we could. it was fun, because we could have like three diffrent people grabbing our wrists at once and the defense still worked, so the threee grabbers would be falling all over eacher other. it was a really fun night.

When the guy on Bladeforums was talking about a "non-lethal knife," he was refering to a very short bladed push-knife. Specifically, this one ==> http://www.coldsteel.com/urbanpal.html
Sadly, the ridiculous myth about being able to stab an attacker, in the torso, with a short-bladed knife and not have him die; continues to exist. The thought behind it is that your attacker will realize that he's bleeding, and run off. The article that WAS on the Martialist website contained 2 real-life stories of people who believed that myth, and are now in prison for many years. (One of those in prison is the son of a rather well-known Martial Arts instructor...... An instructor who passed on that B.S. to his son, along with the other myth that you can stab someone not too deeply in certain parts of their body, and they won't bleed to death. Supposedly to get a person's attention. I'm thinking an old-fashioned slap to the face would work just as well...... But what do I know).
Some companies, such as Spyderco, make fully-functional trainers (Folding knives with blunt, rounded points and no cutting edge. But with the same carry-clip as on the real model). The handles are the same type of material as well, and usually red in color. I've also seen Balisong trainers. I don't consider these trainers to be actual knives. And yeah, you can definitely injure someone with a metal trainer to such an extent that they might die. Some have advocated carrying a metal trainer for Self Defense. The thought being that since they're not actual knives, they don't fall under the same types of legal restrictions as knives do. I don't think it's a good idea though. The knife laws in a lot of places are so vague that metal trainers, since they are designed to look like real knives, might indeed fall under the same legal restrictions. Plus, if a cop stops you and finds your street-legal "pocket knife." You can explain it away. Not sure how to respond as to why I've got a metal traner clipped to my pocket.

when i clicked that link my first thought was "how is that not lethal?" and that still looks to be lethal even if it is short.. i guess not enough people get stabbed before they make assumptions on it.
i havent been stabbed, but ive stapled my finger before and even somthing as small as that you feel go in (and feel it about ten times as much coming out), so you dont need much to let someone know not to mess with you. hell you could probably just light up a lighter and poke them on some bare skin with it.. or put out a cigarette out on them if you smoke.
your right about the trainers... but.. i cant say much more...
its begining to occur to me how many things can be weapons. like a saw a soda can on my desk, and thought if you drinking on of those and someone tries to grab you, you just wrestle around with them until you see an opening and bash it on their head, sure its light and weak but if you hit with the side towards the bottom then it can hurt.. or turn it upside down and aim for the head and hope some pours into their eyes, which'll give you a chance to escape. and you probably didnt know this, but japanese tea cans (ya they sell green tea and stuff in cans) are really hard.. i cant really compare it to somthing, but.. if you hit someone with it they would know, to put it plainy.
i mean.. i've kind of noticed this before.. but not this way.. kind of hard to explain, like i had to think about it before, now it just kind of happens. either this means im turning violently crazy or martial arts are just becoming more and more integral to my life.. oh well..

Crud, your right. They took off Foamy's first two fan mail shorts. Oh well, at least his rants are still there (and updated with a new one, I'll check it out). I took a look at your past post on R.B.S.D. and I found it quite interesting, I may have to find someplace to try it at some point, thanks for the info. I have never really had any weapons training and this style of practical self-Defense may be a major possibility (our Tae Kwon Do class doesn't use any weapons). I appreciate your welcoming reply and probably check up on this forum as often as I can.
On Knives:
Just a random question to whoever can answer it, is it better to hold a knife upside-down or right side up? I do have a knife, and even though I probably will never get into a situation where I'll need one, I'd be nice to know which method of holding it would be more effective in a real-life situation. I'll know I can trust your opinions as it seems a few of you have seen combat yourselves or have had experiences of it.
Another thing:
How do you get those dimmed qoutes at the bottom of your replies? I've seen it and I'd like to share my own...

No you're not turning violently crazy. When I started studying self defense / martial arts, I also started to intuatively notice these things. No need to try to explain it to me, I understand exactly what you mean. :)
But, I've studied cases of people who have gotten stabbed. Those who saw the knife before getting stabbed, reported that they felt the blade. However the weird part is, those who didn't see the blade before getting stabbed; they said it felt like getting punched instead. They didn't even realize they were stabbed, until they saw the blood leaking all over their cloths! (With an experienced knifer, most folks never see the blade)........... A few years back, I saw a videotape of a middle-aged guy who got stabbed repeatedly in the front of his torso by a slightly younger guy, after an arguement at a college football game. It was a short-bladed, lock-back knife. The attacker had the blade barely protruding out the top of his fist. He punched the guy several times, with just the top of his fist. Afterwards, the victim said he thought he had just gotten punched a few times. That is, until he looked down at his shirt. He wasn't even a Defender; he was a victim who was lucky that his attacker decided to back-down on his own. (The tape came from someone else who was in the bleechers. When he heard the arguing, he turned his video-camera around and caught an absolutely clear close-up of the attack).
Who knows, maybe the guy with the knife also believed in the same B.S. myth. Knives are NOT fist-loads!

Well, it depends on the size of the knife really. If it's a large knife almost equalling the size of a small sword, then I would suggest right side up because it increases your reach a great deal. But if it's a small knife like a tactical folder, kitchen knife (like a butter knife), etc...
Then upside down because you can still use a punch without endangering yourself, and yet you can still stick somebody or cut somebody with the same punch.
If you're wondering i'm one of the old members, and I have seen quite a bit of combat myself to say the least.

If you mean how do I do...
this.
Then all you have to do is add a : at the first part of the line and then a space.
But if you're talking about a sig, then that has to be done in your profile.
