i dunno... the teacher says it really depnds on the individual... the only official tests in ninjutsu is the one for the 5th dan (thats when the grandmaster smacks you on the head, or tries to at least) traditionally they jsut rank people up when the teacher feels they are ready, my teacher only uses the requirements as guidelines.. so i guess i can be from a month to 2 months to a year, it just depends on how hard I try to get it. im going for at least yonkyo (thats the next belt) by the end of july, but i want to get sankyo (thats the one after yonkyo) by then. I want to ayt least be 1st dan (thats 1st degree black belt, 2 belts after sankyo) by the end of my senior year in high school, which is next year. from there ill worry about the dans, not right now.

Well my wrist hurts so im not going to type to much.
Well i got third in the tourney. It was my first for sparring so i didnt do to bad. And the match was extremely close. Of course everyone said i scored more points than they gave me which is true and i should've won but hell its how it goes. The dude fucked up my wrist so it really hurts to type which is kind of like why the hell am i doing it. The dude back kicked me right in the balls so that sucked too.

To: DSM - No shame in being Bronze. But yeah, it does sound like you got robbed! BTW, are ball-shots legal in martial arts tournaments, now?? Although a perfectly fine move to use in a street setting, I would have thought your opponent would have been instantly disqualified for using it; in a tournament.

I wouldnt say i was robbed but i was happy enough when i lost. I dont think you would ever see a happier loser. Of course after the match when the other dude was dead tired and i still had tons of fucking energy to go, you would think that i murdered him. :p

hahahaha that must've been so funny to any bystanders! thats definitely brightened up my day, which is good because i have ninjutsu later and i didnt want to go to it feeling the way i was (i got a bit homesick this morning and i found out that one of only friends down here (remember i moved recently) is now moving off) so somthing like that was a good way to brighten my day.
so i started reading one of my old ninjutsu books, and now i can actually understand what the grandmaster means when he says certain things, unlike the first time i read it, when most of it went over my head.

NO chance of seeing a medal or a trophy. Dont got a camera or nothing. But nontheless my wrist got a bit messed up from continuous blocks. Thinking back on it i wasnt thinking straight. Probably nerves or something. Then again i fell asleep before my match......... Also thinking back on it i was the only one with a smile on my face after the match.

DSM: probably nerves.. before my first spar in my kenjutsu thing i took, i got all nervous, only experiance will get you over them.
Mono: he was doing it when i got a good lock on him, and was bringing him down when he didnt want to.. i guess he'll fit right in in ninjutsu (we talked about giving people purple nurples once, not seriously, it was kind of a joke, but funny still)
PiePie: ninjutsu is a REALLY hard art to come by, and from what I've seen its diffrent from most others. www.winjutsu.com has alot of info on it, its formally known as 'Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu', if you look up just ninjutsu on the internet you wont find anything good on it, the BBT will net in some good stuff. in one of his books, the grandmaster describes ninjutsu not as techniques for assassination, but techniques of sensation and awareness, and i have links posted a page or two back, to videos of ninjutsu in action, if you want to see it for yourself.

so hows everything going for you guys? i finished taking my profiencency tests (if you dont know, they are stupid tests needed to graduate here in Nevada) and i think i did well.
regarding martial arts, i just read somewhere that only the first step in ninjutsu is physical endurance, the second step is mental and emotional endurance, and the third is endurance of knowledge. i can elaborate on these if you guys like, but i dont feel like typing them right now so i wont, i just wanted somthing to say.

Been spending the last 2 days on Bladeforums. Can't expect me to share all my wisdom with just you guys. :P
Also trying to find a martial arts related topic of discussion. Basically drew a blank.
But I did find this video-clip on a, let's just say, not so wonderful site...... It's an MMA match between a Muay Thai practioner and a TKD practioner. (Most MMA matches are less than respectable, but this one seems to be the exception to the rule. No blood involved). Check it out, "just for kicks." ;)

alright i finally came up with a martial arts topic! for the next few posts at least, we can discuss probably one of the most important parts of a fight! distancing! tell what your preferred distance in a fight is, and what makes it better then other distances? and what makes it worse?
for me, i dont really have a perferred distance. what i try and do is evade to the left and right of attacks, and usually stay just out of reach so that he cant hit me (or if he does its too far for him to put much power in it) and wait for an opprotunity to present it self (like if he overpunched or kicked and had lost his balance, if for just a second, thats all i need) and then ill shoot in usually with a pre concieved notion of what im going to do (like if he threw a cross and over-extended, i would use my right arm [assuming it was a right cross] and push his elbow forward and with my left hand i would grab as much of that soft flesh between the sholdur and the tricep muscle and then jerk him to the ground where i would try and get a good lock in, or just a good hold).
the problem with this is that i need alot of space, and you have to be pretty conscious of what your doing, you cant just back peddle away from someone, you have to circle around them, and evade not retreat from their attacks. i could use a little practice in this, because its not just somthing you can pick up on quickly, and if im not careful or too slow on the offensive then im put in danger of a good smackin'.
about the video.. the TKD didnt look like he had alot of experiance, though he was the masters cup thing. he back peddled to much and that is why he lost so much, i think. he should've stayed his ground, and if he was a bit faster that would've helped.

I'M BACK!!! woo... i was browsing all of the stuff i missed and by far the thing i agreed with the most is when mono said "fuck being politically correct." that is basically how i live my life. if i want to say sonmething, i say it, if someone is uber conservative is scare the hell out of em, all that stuff.
dsm: i know what the wrist thing is like. i was in a full spar with my moms boyfriend and he used to do tkd, he was testing for dsecond dan black belt before he blew out his knee, and he did this monster snap kick up at my face, so i stepped back, and blocked with the joint part on the part of my wrist right by the knife of my hand, too close to the hand, and i couldn't use it for a week. i got all pissed off and put hiom pon his back because of it, we ended up laughing, so it was cool.
my ex girlfriend did muay thai, and competed in state. she is all into the marines and army, and has extensive military training in rotc and stuff like that. she lived in thailand for 2 years where she learned muay thai, and russia for two years where she developed a hatred for russian arts like systema. she recently got second place in the colorado state muay thai competitiion, and she tried some of it on me. it worked pretty well, but it is a bit easy to stop. they use their knees quite a bit in m.t. so if you grab a leg and lift they're basically fucked.
i do want to clarify something; my R.B.S.D. class does not call itself R.B.S.D., or affiliate itself with any established things like that, but it teaches something very close to it, with quite a bit of systema worked into it, and it is accurate enough to call it R.B.S.D. in a context of what is taught, not what it affiliates itself with. my instructor john is always out at things to learn more, and he does work with some guys that probably are involved with R.B.S.D., as well as some people very experienced in systema, but he doesn't take the name. i just felt that you guys might think that it was official R.B.S.D.. or something,. when it is not.
tsuchiya: my R.B.S.D. class charges 129$ a month, and my tai chi class charges 30$ for 5 sessions, which is about a month. the tai chi is non profit though, so that probably doesn't reflect the prices of an actual school.
in tai chi i have progressed extremely quickly in the form because for the past two weeks all of the students and the secondary instructor have been on vacation, so i have been doing a lot of one-on-one time with paul, the main instructor. in the first 5 or 6 weeks i learned about 1/6 of the form, and yesterday i learned about 1/6, just to give you a bit of perspective on how fast i'm learning. if i do this at this rate for 3 more weeks i will have caught up to my friend micheal, who has been doing tai chi for a year, and that will piss him off. so im siked about that. the form has also repeated itself a lot, so that might be a factor in my success.... but we'll just ignore that and say that i'm simply great :P
about competitions: i dont know very much about the mechanics of a competition, but i do know that there are points scored for merit and stuff like that, but i think that a competition should be more realistic. by realistic i mean like a wrestling match, where almost never does someone win by points, but wins by pinning the other guy. win by knockout or submission or whatever, that just seems more like how it should be to me. i dunno.... now im just rambling a bit....
blah... it's good to be back, i have done nothing but stare at a wall and practice my tai chi for 2 weeks, so this is a vacatiuon of sorts for me....

a part of me wanted to quote all of tom3 just to make a huge post even huger, but then i thought i could get in trouble for that.
i agree with you as far as the competetion thing goes, until one guy cant fight no more. more realistic that way.
so its good to things have been good for you. things got really slow here the last couple of days and everyone (even mono) have seem to forgotten about it.
in my attempt to get some posts i asked everyone about how they feel about distanceing and stuff, so look at my last to see what i meant. i was hoping that your return would bring some spunk back here

well, i shall certainly bring some sprunk, if anyone gets o, last time mono was on for a while, and you fro a bit, but we didnt even fill a page.
i made a huge post, yes, but that is only an indicator of how nothing i have to do. my life was not good, aside from tai chi, though. i basically practiced the form and stared at a wall, listened to some slipknot and nine inch nails, maybe some children of bodom.... it sucked. read all of my manga a few times, that too... see? this is the antihell for me.

Ts- About the distancing, I love my personal bubble, and try to keep back as far away from my opponent as possible. In a point sparring match I usually throw more kicks than hand techniques because Im uncomfortable being in that close. When I am sparring I stand up really tall and lean back a bit, but not to the point Im off balanced. This will give your opponent a harder time to score on you. Some TKD guys lean into everything and it just leaves them wide open. I hope this covered what you meant by "distancing."
To Tom3 and Ts- I agree completely on the making tournies more realistic, but NASKA and RSKC are organizations that are just in it for the sport and not about self defence.. Some bigger tournies like the US Open and Battle of Atlanta have knock out and full contact divisons. I competed last year in a tourney that had a Judo division where you would get points for pinning your opponent. I was totally pwned by some judo chick, but it was a lot of fun and Im doing it again this year. I think that point sparring is a game of tag personally, but the sport of it really makes you faster in your technique. But as long as you keep up training in a style that won't let you get your ass kicked on the street, then I think its cool to enjoy point sparring as a sport....but seriously, if some attacker that knew point sparring came up to me and tried to rob me, and was bouncing around throwing fake out jabs and girly side kicks, i would fuck him up.

yes, i can tell right off the bat you and i will get along, satanic samurai. the sparring thing is to make you better at your art, and a better fighter. if you learn an art to compete in point competitions then you lose much of the real world aplication. if someone was going for point style hits on me, well, they wouldn't walk away anytime soon after.

tom3: hell, i have absolutely nothing to look forward toward except for ninjutsu twice a week, i moved recently and the only 2 people who seem to really like me aren't really the kind of people i try to be with (one of them has earned himself the nickname 'stoner steve', and i try to stay out of drugs and drinking), so things have been REALLY slow for me. looking back, i can fit everything of importance ive done in two words : internet, and ninjutsu. we have really short forms in ninjutsu, so i dont need to physically practice them, but i just go through them in my head. and read your manga a few times? ive read all mine like 3 times each, like 50 old magazines, and like reread about 5 ninjutsu books i have. so i know where your coming from, i'll be glad though, when i finally go back to WA to visit my family and friends it'll be all the sweeter.
sparing i think for honing your technique, i dont know about point sparring, it looks like a game to me (no offense to those of you that do it, please, prove me wrong).

shit, forgot my bit about sparring. from the other, lost post (something to the effect of) "like i always say, if you just hit pads and not people, you'll never learn anything. you have to know what your attacks and defenses REALLY do, and how they open and close doors for a real fight."
