I really want to game very smoothly and have a really powerful gaming computer. And I want the best out there. I dunno if Compaq is better than Dell , or if dell is better than compaq. And ALIENWARE is out of the question right now.
The Compaq Gaming Computer is cheaper but dunno what it better.
I highered the quality a little on it
2gb of ram
NVIDIA 6800 Ultra grahpic card (New One)
Better hard drive
(cost 3,400)
did the same with the Dell XPS
Which cost around 3,800.
Here is the question Are any of these computers even worth getting and which one should I get?

I've had a few compaqs and they suck. I dunno much about Dell, but I know some people who are happy with them... and they cost more... does that mean anything?

Yes I don't want to spend 400 extra dollars if quality is not better.

Compaqs suck. Well so does Dell. If you dont know how to make your own comp, then get the Dell. If you do.....dont get either cuz they sucks.

Compaq's are truely very terrible computers. They buy a decent motherboard and processor, but then throw all shitty components into it, which bring it down, and throw it to shit.
I havent had any problems with Dell's computers (from what ive used), and Dell is who I recommend.

Dell's are decent but they still have shit to them. Compaq is even worse. Why is Alienware out of the question though?

Build your PC, it's rewarding, I use an AOpen AX4SPE MAXII - p4 3.0C and Aeolus 5900 with PC4000 512 single stick 2.5-3-3-6. I'm loooven it! cost me 500 to make it, ebay's got the yummy stuff!
It's probably worth it to do so, even though dells and compaqs are cheaper, they rearly have high performance expandability. I one had a compaq and put an Asus 128 agp in it, the thing didn't take kindly to it or my SB PCI128.

building your own is def the way to go, alot less expensive for a better machine and you get that warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment when you're done. only problem is that you cant build laptops...i wish i had a laptop.

I've had a compaq and a dell. Compag has a better casing, like the buttons are easier but Dell's computer hardware is better. IT doesn't matter though, your getting NVidia. EWWWWWWWWWW!!! Ati Radeon own NVidia. The way it shoud be or wtv! Ha! I think not. Radeon 9500 is the best price to performance card so far. It's relatively -well not cheap but not expensive. It will still do almost anything.

Desktops aren't worth that much money... If you want a desktop PC you should build your own, and you could probably come out with the same specs for $1,500 cheaper.
I'm saving up to get a Dell XPS laptop, which will cost about $3,000. But I wouldn't pay $3,800 for a Dell XPS desktop...
I've been refurbished and reissued, prepackaged and precooked, decontaminated and deloused, but I still smell, sound, look and feel like shit. New to the video game forums?

Here is what I'd do.. given you're gonna spend fucking $3k!!!
(800Mhz FSB)Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU @ 3.4GHZ 512K w/ Hyper Threading *(DDR400-800MHz FSB)ASUS P4P800-E DELUXE I865PE AGP8X DUAL DDR w/AUD,USB2,LAN 2GB (512MBx4) PC3200 DDR400 Memory (Corsair_XMS) Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA150 8MB Cache Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA150 8MB Cache ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB DDR AGP 8X W/ TV-OUT & DVI COMBO DRIVE(DVD-ROM & CDRW) (BEIGE) PIONEER DVR-107 DUAL FORMAT 8X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE (BEIGE) NONE - MONITOR Creative Labs SB LIVE VALUE 5.1
Price: $1915.00
Than by whatever monitor you want.. you'd be under $3k.. and it would be sooo much better than either a DELL or a COMPAQ.. or heck even overpriced Alienware

Hah, sounds alot better than my first Compaq a few years back. Came with a whopping 14mb ram, 200mhz Cyrix processor and just over a gb of HD space, most of which was occupied by good old Windows 95. *nostalgia*

I'm sorry, but in the older Dell catalogs, they compared their computers to the Compaqs.
That was not right.
That was a very cruel thing of Dell to do.
If this doesn't convince you to get a Dell, or that Compaqs suck,
I have no idea what will...
The Dell XPS is great, Have the Gen 5.
1 Terabyte Memory,
Dual core processors,
Etc.

If you can't build your own, go for the Compaq. They are much better than dell.
