The UN is a political body that doesn't do anything except gripe about the U.S. and it's actions. The also pass resolutions that nobody follows. How does the world take this organization seriously?

Nobody follows the resolutions because the UN was designed without an enforcement mechanism to make sure they're put into force. Even the Security Council, which alledgedly has the equivalent to law making status, has no means of putting them into practice.
But that's how it was designed. No nation, except the most powerless, would ever willingly sacrifice its sovereignty to any body unless they got something out of the deal. For example, Bush Sr. went to the UN to sanction the Gulf War because it would give his policy direction legitimacy. So he subordinated some of his policy direction, got Security Council approval and led an invasion force to get Hussein out of Kuwait.
The UN is only as good as the member states want to make it.

The UN=Useless because it can't work without the cooperation of its powerful memeber states. For example, the UN set up a war crimes tribunal to try generals and leaders etc. for crimes against humanity. The US has disavaowed this body and refused to ackgnowlege its existance. Why? Becasue several US policy makers and politicans and members of the armed forces and members of the inteligence community are wanted by this court, and the US would never want anything to happen to its precious war criminals. One of these "wanted men" is the famous republican think doc Henry Kissinger. That is only one of the ways in which the US undermines the UN. Want another? Just look at the war in iraq.

I agree. I propose that the UN begins strict economic sanctions against the world's leading militaristic power, which has a long , dark history of agressive, imperialistic actions.
Of course, that'd mean attacking itself at the base of things, still...
The one thing force produces is resistance.

Perhaps the UN could have its own standing international military police force made up of troops from each respective country? They could be like, what was it, you know, those international police that stop smuggling or something? Was it smuggling? Do we even have an international police force?
God, what's wrong with me? I can't seem to string out a coherent sentence today!

Been on the books for ages. But no one is willing to let their troops fall under the command of another body.
INTERPOL does exist in Europe, but it's more to facilitate co-operation among national law enforcement bodies, as opposed to kicking down doors themselves.

The fact that the war in Iraq even happend is a sign that big coutries do not respect the UN's opinion. The only countries that do respect the UN is the small ones that need the help of the UN and Canada since we're mainly a peacefull country. I saw the UN should do something about it all. It means United Nations so why dont all the other UN members stand up against other members when they step out of line. It would work but the only thing is it would probably damage personal relations between countries. I just hope Bush gets the hell out of the whitehouse soon so then the world will ease up a bit. Damn coybow Bushy.

Answered your own question there :)
Since the UN wouldn't have existed without WW II and the failure of the League of Nations before it, it will take a great deal of trust, or a huge calamity, for countries to engage in the type of self-policing you mentioned. Then the UN will work.
Until that point, all they can do pine for the optimistic future so many held out for it.

So basically everyone thinks the UN is useless because the more powerful countries disregard it?

I dont think it's useless: it's done a ot of good, but is IS nowhere near as useful and good as it could be, for that exact reason.

I would just like to see the UN do some good once in a while. Rally other nations together to help and shithole country. Now I know Im not the most politicaly correct person here *is on the phone* but I really thing the world should get it's shit together. Collect "Membership fee" from all the first class nations and use that to help the other nations out with food, medicine and other stuff. This is a collective so why not treat it like such. Help the other nations out and it'll be fine. Canada supports other nations by sending them food. Rant terminated.
