I don't think I've ever seen my taxpayer dollars wasted so frivilously.
I'm already against my tax dollars going to so many "beneficial" things and now this?

I heard about this, and crazily enough I'm going to agree with hithair's assessment (well come on - who would justify this?).
I wonder what is in store for the obese, now that it's being classified as a 'disease'? hmmmm
The one thing force produces is resistance.

I may start writing some more letters to Congress... I can almost see obesity as a disease, but it is nothing but a waste to give free cosmetic surgery to soldiers. I understand that it is a free service to the soldiers, but since its on the taxpayer dime, there comes a line that shouldn't be crossed. That line is between necessity and frivility(sp?), and when the government starts crossing that line, nothing justifies the frivilous use of government dollars on such things as cosmetic surgery.

I repeat, when the government starts crossing the line between necessity and frivility, nothing justifies the frivilous use of government dollars on such things as cosmetic surgery.
1) Annie J. Soldier gets shot in the leg. Does that mean we should give her fake boobs?
2) Bob. Q. Marine gets his leg blown off. Does that mean he should get free rhinoplasty?
Of course not. Such things are frivilous and unnecessary. Doctors do their best to minimize scarring, and whats left is typically a scar that can easily be concealed through the strategic use of clothing and/or makeup.

i was using a rare comodity here on the politics board -- its called SARCASAM. But in all seriousness, if soldiers are scarred for life, the army, and we as american taxpayers , are obliged to help them get over their disability in any way possible. If that means using costly plastic surgerey to get rid of the scar, so be it. We are sending these people out to be killed. So stop griping about wasting tax dollars.

Stop being a whiny little Lib Dem bitch. Information on "wasting" of taxpayers' money is always hopelessly biased. The Lib Dems have absolutely no clue what is going on with the economy because they haven't had access to inside Treasury information for 80 years - which is one, of many, reasons why their budget figures don't add up.

http://www.scottishtories.org.uk/pressrelease.asp?ID=1252
Since Labour came to power the cost of central government administration has risen by £2.5 billion.
http://www.portal.telegraph.co...nion/2004/07/18/ixopinion.html
Since 1997, the public sector workforce has grown by no less than 500,000, yet only 131,000 of these new recruits were doctors, nurses, teachers and police officers. And the Government's own figures show that another 360,000 are to be hired by 2008, the majority of them again likely to be administrators.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3377881.stm
But the Tories say the actual costs of administering central government has risen by £7bn.
Lynne Featherstone, transport spokesperson, today hit out at the Government's waste of taxpayers' money in the wake of a National Audit Office report detailing £455 million paid in 'expenses' for setting up the Tube PPP deal:
http://www.glalibdems.org.uk/news/145.html
"Liberal Democrats warned that Labour's mad PPP for the Tube would pour taxpayers' money into fat cats' pockets. Now the National Audit Office spells it out: PPP was, in their words, 'costly for all parties involved'.
Sorry for being a whiny little Lib Dem Bitch, Slizor...

I thought big breasts would be more of a hinderance while fighting... Think about it, you're trying to crawl a small space and then you say, "Damn these huge knockers!"
But do they say if this is re-constructive surgery? I am not against reconstructive surgery, especially if the person is terribly maimed.

We give a whole load of incentives... education, health benefits, retirement packages, etc. Unless they lost a nose or lost a breast, They don't need elective plastic surgery...
Instead of using the money on elective surgery, why not spend the money on older vets, especially on the ethnic soilders of WWII. A bunch of Phillipino and Mexican soilders are on the brink of starving, and are begging for the government whom they the Phillipino and Mexican soilders proved are willing to die during WWII. The Phillipino soilders have been more screwed over, since their already small benefits and pension have been reduced to nearly nothing by my Ahnold the Gobernator.

If you look at the wording of the site, I dont think this is reconstructive surgery, which I'm sure nobody would have a problem with.

Just my quick two cents. I think it is fully F*CKED up that I can hit a little white ball in golf and make $20 million yet die for my country and get $12,000 a year.

I say "Information on "wasting" of taxpayers' money is always hopelessly biased". You respond with information from the Lib Dems, Scottish Tories, the most right-wing paper in Britain and information from the Tories. Thank you for proving my point.

I doubt the veracity of this report. If combat pay is being cut and military budgets are already cut to the bone (man soldiers are indeed resorting to buying their own weapons and ammo on the black market for lack of issuance), then there is a real credibility gap here.
Perhaps the 'military' folk in question are top ranking people or ex-officers from the upper echelon, because those are the only folks (in my navy) who ever got preferencial treatment so openly.

Only particular classes. The military isn't a piece of cake.
