I always see them on TV and they push the envelope farther and farther, like 1 where they make this kid's mom disappear and the guys says smoking kills 500,000 moms a day. It's sick, do you think it's gone to far.

um thats smoking man not drugs like weed and such, but they usually have to go "too far" in order to get a certain point across or make people feel bad about smoking, and "adds" is spelled "ads"

Sorry about the spelling and mis-speeches. But why would you need to exaggerate about ciggarettes and drugs if they're as bad as they say they are, and do you think it's ok to distort to get the point across.

I remember watching Flintstones smoke... cartoons smoking... It was black and white, but for some reason it stuck in my mind...
I see this offsetting... Since I haven't seen this commercial, I can't comment it too much... Although I've been very weary at the statistical information. That sure is a lot of people dieing from smoking...
The sick one I think was when they squeeze the "butter" (what the hell was that stuff???) from the esophogus of a dead smoker... That was nasty, but that was shown on TV very late at night.

well they probably take a fact thats close enough to what they say that it wont hurt, but really drugs n shit arent supposed to be that bad, ciggarettes are supposed to be terrible, i mean if you take like crack thats a bad drug but weed is supposed to be better for you then cigs! and i understand the spelling welcome to the internet era

I think anti-smoknig stats are just as spurious as those stats that the smoking companies give, but I still beleive that smoking is bad. Are the commercials pushing the envelope? Yes, as well they should be. You don't get attention by just saying smoknig is bad. You have to apply shock value.

oh yeah, those ones are frightening and funny at the same time because they just seem like they could never happen, i mean who is really dumb enough to smoke it up in your own house when your parents will be back in 15 mins, and you have to watch your 3 year old sibling, i mean maybe those people that are that dumb deserve to get prision raped. i mean holy shit man.

Yeah, but still I don't think you should be aloud to push your views by using shock value, especially speculative shock value.

That's because the people who think like you are screwing up the stuff I'm complaining about. It is the right with the close-minded drug czars.

Well they use propaganda and lies to make everyone think the way they do. Even though people actually (gasp) CHOOSE to smoke and drink. The "evil" tobacco companies arent out to get you. Everyone know the harmful side-effects, and they choose for themselves.
"TRUTH" is a bunch of angry people using their money and power to force people to think their way.

dude, when those "truth" ads list al those "harmful chemacails" those are only trace elements, like our water, tap and store bought, contanes 33% of the peridic table.
also anti-drug comercails are total bullshit. pot does not kill brain cells it henders blood flow to certain parts of the brain, but does not destroy or cause permanet affects on ur body.

I agree that the "truth" people are a bit over the top, but I can see where they have a point. A lot of people do die, and although the consumcer has free-will, the manufacturor should have some sort of accountability for the effects of their products.
I wouldn't feel right if i knew my products could potentually hurt people...
and btw the drug commercials where the kid gets hit or girl drowns, shit like that does happen..
- a woman at the church lost an 18 month baby in the little kiddie pool becasue she left her kids with a teenager who had smoked weed before and after she came to babysit. All the did was talk on the phone and thrn went to the bathroom to smoke and didn't pay attention to where the kids had scattered to.

Those anti-drug groups will do anything to try to get a stupid message through, like this which was taken from the Toronto Hemp Company's site:
A few years ago, Partnership for a Drug-Free America ran a TV ad that purported to show, first, a normal human brainwave, and second, a flat brainwave from a 14-year-old "on marijuana". When researchers called up the TV networks to complain about this commercial, the Partnership had to pull it from the air. It seems that the Partnership faked the flat "marijuana brainwave". In reality, marijuana has the effect of slightly INCREASING alpha wave activity. Alpha waves are associated with meditative and relaxed states which are, in turn, often associated with human creativity.

I have no problem with the shock ads that are used by the government and charities to un-promote* smoking. If they're exceptionally shocking, then they should be shown after the 9pm Watershed, but as long as parents are smoking around children, children AND parents should know about the dangers.
There is one around at the moment where a father, dying of throat cancer is in a hospital bed with a tube in his throat so he can breathe. It doesn't make for easy viewing, but as long as we're selling cigarettes, we should have these ads.
*I am fully aware this is not a word. I made it up. I can do that, because I'm cool.

sounds better then UK ads, there adverts are a total waste of time, a mother tries to talk to her son about drugs and a swat team comes in and takes her away "its illigal to take drugs, not to talk about them, Talk to FRANK" FRANK being the new hotline, its a joke! and not a funny one either
