Congress approved the establishment of the draft website last night after a Republican threatened a filibuster if they didn't.
All 16+ aged citizens and over please click here to register! If you don't, it's against the law!
A prompt email will be sent back after registration and you will be called for an interview.
I really doubt this. First, I would have seen something about it in my email, as I get updates about bills and resolutions currently in Congress. Secondly, the Selective Service Act specifically defines eligible citizens as 18+ males, and an amendment to the Selective Service act reducing that age limit would surely have shown up in my ACLU subscription. Please ignore this thread everyone.

Also, the idea of the draft being reinstated is absurd, the US Armed Forces and our allies are more than equipped to deal with any crises on the horizon and their metaphorical grandmothers. Not only so, it was the Democrats who were talking about the draft in order to create less support for Republicans. The fact that you think it was the Republicans seems to support that.
Think you're pretty clever...

Well the joke was not funny. There isn't enough comical elements in it. Besides they try too hard to critisize bush so they failed in making it funny.

I saw the funny side to this. All you have to do is click on the link and read it. US Global Crusade!!!
And anyways, half of you have been proved to be n00bs now, because if you were regular (or semi-regular, heading towards regular)(or kinda n00by, but with a grain of intelligence) then you would have seen this guy planning this joke on the Reg. Lounge...

Your Draft Number is "39853-CRUSADER-8138"
Laugh if you want, you dirty terrorist sympathizers. I'm willing to serve my country, unlike you spineless weasels. I'll remember you when it comes time for me to defend your homes and businesses from the Terrorist Horde.
You people make me sick.

Consider this. Now, if you look here you are correct about Democrats being the ones talkign about the draft, at least in congress. This is because the current selective service system allows for alot fo vietnam era deferements that would be eliminated as well as women added to the mix to serve as well. Most imporantly a draft, from the view of Dems that support it, is a better alternative than the current system where the majority serving are either poor and seeking an education or individuals from families with histories of military service. This leaves a very small cross-section of our nation making up our all volunteer army.
The more disconcerning thing is the efforts the Republican administration has made to revamp the selective service system, including posting a ad for deferment board personnel. I will also give a cadveat that the money mention in the article is being taken slgihtly out of context considering the bulk of those funds would need to be appropriated even if our military was streached somewhat thin by current operations around the globe.
As a last note, yes we have the capability of addressing a major crisis but the methodology we are currently using to fight in Iraq-- providing shorter tours and more breaks via the use of Reserves and Guard, is leaving many states with reduced man and equiptment power to fight natural disasters.
