It's not looking too good for the Cubs right now. I was very surprised to see that the Dodgers got 6 runs off them, and it's the 8th inning. Could it be what all Cubs fans have feared? An inevitable collapse? It's too early to tell obviously, but you'd hope that a team going in with so much hype would at least win the first game.

That's some goooood power. Maybe he'll be over Brett Myers shoulder tomorrow night as he's going against CC, and he may just need it. Still, apart from that third inning the Phils were pretty much silent with the bats, so they need to pick it up there as well.

Oh and ouch @ Dempster giving up the 4 run shot.

We own the Angels in the playoffs, enough said. Oh, roflmao @ Motolov and Daaaaaaaaaaa Cubbies.
Motolov will not see them winning a WS in his life and that is a damn gurantee.

4-1 is hardly owning them. If you're taking a 2-0 lead back to Fenway, then maybe you've got yourselves a chance :P

Pride comes before a fall, Dukey ;)

Looks like Evan Longoria is carving himself a reputation in Tampa for Playoff Baseball. 2 at bats, 2 Homers and counting.

JINX!

It's still anyone's game though - 4-3 Tampa in the middle of the 5th.

The point is that we have beat them in the postseason for 10 straight times and that IS OWNAGE.

The Rays won 6-4. I feel kind of sorry for the White Sox who could not start Floyd for Game 1 courtesy of NOT wrapping up their division early.

Yep, 5 Earned runs through 3 2/3 innings, with the big hit being Shane "the Flyin' Hawai'ian" Victorino's Grand Slam. We went frickin' nuts when we saw that. And of course read CC's lips on the jumbotron as he blurted out "God fucking damnit" as it flew into the stands in left field. We got on him hard when he started giving up hits and walks, especially after he walked Brett Myers after a 9 pitch at-bat. The chants were "C.C. you later" upon his early exit, "overrated," and the big chant was just a simple "C.C. sucks."

Opposing Sabathia was Myers, who pitched quite well. He had his first inning hiccup after walking in the first run of the game with the bases loaded, but stopped the bleeding at 1 after he grabbed a come-backer for the double play. Nothing else came across the plate on his watch until the 7th after a run scored following a sacrifice fly, and then a fielder's choice. So he finished the night with an abbreviated line of 7IP and 2ER. The bullpen was solid in giving up no runs in the 8th, even with 2 on and 2 out for Fielder, who broke his bat on the first pitch he saw as he grounded out. Tonight we saw "Light's out" Lidge as he had a 1-2-3 inning, instead of any nail-biting adventures.

Go head, Yankees. Purchase him for all your young talents and watch him fading in the playoffs. C.C is not a playoff pitcher, enough said.

Well, him being a free agent at the end of the year the Yankees aren't going to be giving up any young talent if they decide to get CC. The only thing they'll be forking over are dollars to him and his agent.

What happened tonight wasn't even Zambrano's fault. The Cubs had at least 3 errors which contributed to runs and even after that, Zambrano took it very hard. It would appear that the Cubs chances are almost over, but don't count them out yet. 3 wins in a row isn't totally impossible for them.

I say this all as a White Sox fan.

Surely that's their own fault though? Wouldn't they have had him available if they'd have won just one more game? Could they not have won this game by playing just a little harder?

At 10/2/08 08:47 PM, Dream-of-Duke wrote: lol, so much about C.C Sabthia being dominant. He got his ass thrilled HARD.

Two words for you - short rest.

The Brewers had started him off short rest for 4 straight starts. Surely he's tired. The Divisional series hasn't really been much of as problem for him in his 3 seasons there. 3 starts, a 2-1 record, but the ERA could use some work. Last night was a blow for the Brewers, I'll grant you. This probably means the end of their postseason as well.

Go head, Yankees. Purchase him for all your young talents and watch him fading in the playoffs. C.C is not a playoff pitcher, enough said.

So, to purchase a free agent, we'll need to throw kids at the guy? Load the cannon!

The NL is now set: Dodgers vs. Phils. Hopefully the Phils can continue in the way they have been pitching well, as well as timely hitting. Still, I'd like to see Chase and Ryan contribute a little more. All your analysts/reporters/Joe Schmoes keep saying that they're good players and will get hot. Unfortunately after 4 games vs. the Brewers they really haven't. Perhaps it was just good work by the Brewers pitching that dedicated themselves on taking Chase and Ryan out as threats, perhaps to the detriment of when they faced others in the line-up. Who knows? We'll find out when game 1 of the NLCS rolls around.

As for the AL, both series are at 2-0 and if the trend continues it will be a Red Sox vs. Rays ALCS at tonight's end. The Rays are the real deal and have done quite well against the Red Sox this season when it mattered most. I'll hold my tongue for now as anything can still happen.

Will the Rays be able to advance tonight? Could they be meeting their second pair of Sox in this postseason? It looks like there's going to be some fireworks one way or another

Haha, Coop...you are such a clown sometimes.
I am not going to hit the panic button just yet. Well, the streak has got to be over at some point, right. The Angels area good side who won 100 games in the regular season. Of course I would like to witness a sweep last night, but do not forget that we will still have 2 chances to finish them off.

I'm supporting the Rays on this. Even if they beat the White Sox, I want the young team to make it to the WS.

Wow, what a game! First, Terry Francona (normally good) got haunted by Grady Little's ghost of the 2003 ALCS by taking out Okajima in favor of Masterson after a 2 outs walk. Then Masterson ruined Lester's chance of winning (which was a shame since he pitched 7 shutout innings) by giving up 2 runs in 8th and having a runner on 3rd base with 1 out in the ninth with a tied game. When Terry Francona finally woke up and replaced Masterson with Delcarmen, Varitek made an improbably play to tag out the runner on 3rd. Finally, it came down to this: with 2 outs in the bottom of 9th and Jason Bay on 2nd base, Lowry had a chance to be the hero, and he delievered the walk off single which sent us to the ALCS for the second straight year! What a game!!!!

Actually, if he was haunted by his ghost he would have left him IN and Okajima he would've given up the runs. Terry did the right thing, but Masterson started missing his spots and that is what caused the problem.

Then Masterson ruined Lester's chance of winning (which was a shame since he pitched 7 shutout innings) by giving up 2 runs in 8th and having a runner on 3rd base with 1 out in the ninth with a tied game.

Yeah, it's too bad about Lester not getting the "W", but he did a damned good job.

When Terry Francona finally woke up and replaced Masterson with Delcarmen, Varitek made an improbably play to tag out the runner on 3rd.

That was an awesome play.

What got me on those plays is how close the right fielder was to diving and catching Bat's hit, then how close the 2nd baseman was to getting Lowry's hit. Those two plays were VERY close. It was nice to see Lowry come thru when he had bases loaded last night and flew out with 2 outs where a hit would've won it.

It was also great to see Pedroia finally get a hit and a BIG one at that. I still feel that he needs to slide down to 8th until he heats up. This is the playoff and no time to be stubborn with the batting order.
