Now, the situation with Jake Peavy is a little different. San Diego's manager made the right decision to take him out when he did. Peavy threw 117 pitches. He wants to make sure that Peavy doesn't end up being like Felix Hernandez or Francisco Liriano.

And sure enough Papelbon got the job done (Again!). Not only that but the Yanks dropped their six straight game tonight. As for Phillip Hughes, 3 innings pitched he allowed 4 hits and 2 runs.
I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned (maybe because its not much of a surprise) but Mark Prior is going to have shoulder surgery and he'll miss this season. The good news is that the injury is not career threatening but really, how many times can you get hurt before you just lose it mentally?

He's another case of a pitcher starting off a little too young and just getting ripped apart early. It wasn't in his mechanics, but his shoulder tissues and muscles just couldn't handle such stress at such a young age.
He'll be effective if he stays healthy and signs with another team, but the Cubs really can't afford to keep him on the roster any longer. Same goes for Kerry Wood.

OMG, we have got a Cubbies' fan here! :O He is going to be so sad for the whole season because his Cubbies are still not going to win more than 70 games despite the offseason spray. Oh man, I feel sorry for him already. :(

Do you think that I care who you say about me? Nope. The reason why I came back was because I loved baseball just like every of you here. Is that a problem? The reason why I like to tease him is because Cubbies' BBS signiture displays a WS trophy and I find it hilarious because let's face it, even Soriano, who was a monster when he was with the Nats has underachieved in the Cubbies' uniform. It is also funny that they still consider Prior whose best days are behind him due to injures as their future. That's what I call it pathetic. With all the money they sprayed in the offseason, they are still on the bottom of the division. I know that it is early in the season, but the Cubbies are not showing any sign of sieging back. Let me tell you, if my Red Sox are 8-13 after all the offseason sprays, I would say that my team is pathetic too. Nothing against the Cubbies or him. It is just funny to see how far the Cubbies have fallen from the promise land every single year. :P

Well as long as that's all it is, then I have no problems with that.
I didn't even make the sig myself. The only details that I had to give is the team and which player I wanted in it.
It seems like they have a better lineup right then they've had in past couple years. They have upside. It's just a matter of chemistry with them right now. If they get that going, then they should have no problems overtaking that weak division they're in, even if they barely surpass eighty wins.

You know who is really PATHETIC? Theo! He spent 103 M on a useless garbage named Dice-K instead of chasing Zito. Now Dice-K is showing how pathetic and retarded Theo is as he got his ass lit up again. Just look at his 4.65 ERA, that pretty much has told the story, yea? I do not have to wait until the end of the season to know that he sucks because I am not as dumb as Theo. For once, I hope that NYY's offense drop 8 runs on the so called "phenom" and Theo can kiss and say goodbye to Boston when the whole Red Sox nation realizes how fucking stupid he is.

He gave up four runs to the best offense in the league... And the Red Sox won. How about if instead on dewlling on the bad things you actually acknowledge the good? The Red Sox have been in four games this season against the Yanks and out starting pitching has struggled in each and every one of those games but..... We've still won every fucking game.
As long as we keep winning you can forget about Matsuzaka's struglles (if you can call them that). When the Ox start losing, then you can go ahead and complain.
I'll put it like this.. Right not, Boston is John Cena. Now matter hoe bleak things look we overcome the odds and we win.. So enjoy it because we're on a hot streak... As long as we don't play the Blue Jays.

I don't know if they should've went after Zito, though. Sure, Dice-K was a big risk since he only pitched in Japan, but Zito's too streaky of a pitcher in my eyes. He was overpaid way too much by the Giants. If you look at their rotation, Zito shouldn't even be considered the ace of that staff.
Have you seen Matt Cain? He has some really nasty stuff. He'll definitely overthrow Zito as the ace of that staff in a year or two.

Yeah so I was out with some friends of mine tonight. And we stopped at a bar for a few drinks and conversations. I walked in hoping to check and see the Phils score, and I saw that they were currently losing to the Marlins, which really didn't surprise me. What DID surprise me just a little bit ago is that I checked the score on their website and was pleasantly surprised to see that they won. Yes I know I keep saying that it would be best if they really tanked so a huge shakeup would happen, but c'mon they're my team and I like to see them win.
Anywho, I check the box score and gameday feature on mlb.com and I find out that they won it in the bottom of the ninth, which isn't their modus operandi. What bugs me is that they were winning after the bottom of the eigth, and that means someone blew a save in the top of the ninth. I'll spare you the whole "I'll give you 3 guesses" routine and let you know it was Tom Gordon yet again. So he's already blown 3 saves, but gets the win because the Phils won it in the bottom of the 9th (they should really change some official scoring rules), and has a current ERA of 5.40... not good for a "closer."
This brings me to my point of Why hasn't that hayseed Charlie Manuel put Myers in as the closer yet? I don't care if he's loyal to Gordon, Tom is ruining games. Okay grant it Myers is no Cy Young, but he has stepped into the reliever role quite well so far, and even went 2 shutout innings today with 4 Ks. Hell, even Ryan Madson is pitching better than Gordon, and he doesn't even have a lead half the time they call on him to pitch. If there's no switch within the next week of Myers to closer, I'm going to go insane,

The Cubs seem to have the ability to ruin young pitchers' careers by overworking them (see: Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Jerome Williams [after the Giants did him in originally in '02]). If I were Rich Hill, I'd be worried.

Rich Hill started out a little later than these guys. I think his arm and mechanics are polished enough to were he's not going to have to have any legitimate worries. He'll be just fine.

At least Zito DID win the CY Young, at least he had 23 wins in 2002(?). Spending 103 M on an unproven pitcher like Dice-K who never pitched in the ML before was too risky. Yes, our offense backed him up again last night, but he also needs to pitch well most of the time so that we do not have to rescue him every single time.
FUCK YOU, JULIO LUGO! HOW DARE YOU INJURING KARSTENS WHO WOULD HAVE GIVEN UP AT LEAST 10 RUNS AGAINST US ON HIS FIRST PITCH? IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY W FOR US. NOW, BECAUSE OF YOU, YOU DICKHEAD LUGO, IGAWA CAME OUT AND HAD OUR ENTIRE LINEUP PWNED. I HATE YOU, LUGO, I HOPE YOU DIE TONIGHT.

Yes, curse your teammate, curse him for getting a hit and removing a hated rival's starting pitcher for atleast the next 4-6 weeks.
HOW DARE YOU INJURING KARSTENS WHO WOULD HAVE GIVEN UP AT LEAST 10 RUNS AGAINST US ON HIS FIRST PITCH?
Yes, how dare he? I mean Karsten's ERA of 14+ would've spotted you some serious runs, but of course Igawa had to come in and we all know he's contenting for a Cy Young with his 6+ ERA. I mean, I know the Sox lineup are usually good with their bats, but oh man, I don't see how they can score on a guy whose pitching with an ERA that low.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY W FOR US. NOW, BECAUSE OF YOU, YOU DICKHEAD LUGO, IGAWA CAME OUT AND HAD OUR ENTIRE LINEUP PWNED. I HATE YOU, LUGO, I HOPE YOU DIE TONIGHT.
I know right? I mean Wakefield wouldn't have even had to show up today right considering he was going vs Karstens? I mean what players did he have to face today? Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Bobby Abreu, Jorge Posada... what single-A league did these bums come from?
...
Enough humor. Your team got beat today 'cuz they didn't hit. Sure they could've faced someone that was statistically twice as bad as Igawa, when Wakefield is arguably more than twice as good as Igawa. He was outpitched today by an inferior player, or you can say your team didn't hit. Either way, if you want to say that since that Karstens was twice as bad as Igawa, then by the numbers the Sox would've still lost 3-2 instead of 3-1.
So yeah, shut the fuck up with cursing out your own teammate in a thread that he'd never read and having it in all caps.
How a fucking bout my cardinals. They are so out of it. The cubs arent good, they arent. So when we cant beat them that makes me think. Wainwright sucked today, Kip wells will suck tommorow, and chris carpenters injury that wasnt even supposed to keep him out for his next start but here he is not playing! Preston Wilson strikes out 3 out of every 4 at bats, Albert Pujols is batting 247 and leading the team with only 6 homeruns? Scott Rolen cant hit, Jim Edmonds is getting old, Exstein is hitting the ball in the air, and Juan Encarnacion.... well he isnt playing because of injury which would probably be a good thing except for the fact we have the asian sensation so taguchi making errors and hitting below 220.
NEW GAME PLAN:
BRADEN LOOPER, START EVERY GAME
CHRIS DUNCAN AND ALBERT: SWING FOR THE FENCES ON EVERY PITCH

Unfortunately, that's the least of the Cards worries at the moment.
ST. LOUIS -- Josh Hancock, a key member of the bullpen that helped the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series last season, was killed in a car crash early Sunday.
The Cardinals postponed their home game Sunday night against the Chicago Cubs.
A vehicle driven by the 29-year-old Hancock apparently struck a truck that was assisting a disabled vehicle, team spokesman Brian Bartow said. The Cardinals and police were expected to make a statement later in the day at Busch Stadium.
Hancock's death is the second of a Cardinals player in less than five years. Pitcher Darryl Kile was found dead in a Chicago hotel room in June 2002. The 33-year-old Kile died of a coronary artery blockage.
RIP

How does that even happen? Was he not paying attention and he hit the truck?
They make it sound as though the truck was parked.

Considering that your No.1 and No.2 pitchers are on the DL, all you need to do is to hang around until they come back. You do not have to be superb to win the average NL central.
lol, surprise, surprise...we are actually leading NYY 4-3 right now. Tavarez did enough to limit NYY within 3 runs in 5 innings as a plague-in pitcher. Now if we can hang on, we will be heading home with another series W. :)
