Who is your favorite movie director?

My second favorite has to be M. Night Shyamalan, the guy responsible for The 6th Sense and Unbreakable. This guy takes full advantage of the art of film making! Plus his best movies always have some sort of twist ending. Me like twist endings...

But my favorite director of them all is a guy named Melvin Kaminsky... or as he is more commonly known... Mel Brooks!

Fun Fact: Mel Brooks supplied extra voices in the movie "The Prince of Egypt"

But I also got to give props to my man, Stanley Kubrick for directing masterpieces like Full Metal Jacket and Dr. Strangelove. I still do not believe Eyes Wide Shut was one of his works.

Believe it, dude. But... he was really sick when he made it... in fact he died before he could finish it. Kubrick was a genius, Dr. Strangelove has to be one of the best movies of all time!

I really like hitchcock, no oen tops him in suspense or even dark comedy, although the sixth sense guy is good, and so is the guy who did memento. I also really enjoy all of terry gilliams movies. He has yet to make a bad film. People willa rgue that with me, and I guess they're entitled to their opinion, but terry gilliam is the man, every time I watch one of his movies Is ee something new. Its like where's waldo on crack.

Definitely the top directors. They didn't get there for nothing. Lucas, Speilberg and Burton are my top 3. There are many great movies directed by other directors that also must have acknowledgement, so cancel out those top 3. :)

yeah, burton would be my first choice either, but on the other hand: i saw "planet of the apes" yesterday and it really sucked. tim burton must have been in need for money....

all of his other films are great (maybe except "edward scissorhands.

btw.: where did you get that penguin-sketch from?

my favourite director of all time is John Carpenter. I would attempt to explain that, but I don't really think it needs explaining, I mean, it's John Carpenter.

Sorry to cancel out your opinion here, but Lucas is not a good director...possibly even a bad director. I think you're a bit confused as to what he actually directed. Spielberg is a great DIRECTOR perhaps the best of all time when it coes to presenting an idea on the screen for a wide audience, and so are people such as Ridely Scott and others. Then you have people like Cameron who are great at creating movies (since he also writes all of his movies), and Lucas who are good at producing them.

Kevin Smith also is not that good of a DIRECTOR, but his dialogue is often quite hilarious.

Kevin Smith is probably my favorite director, but that has more to do with my enjoyment of his body of work than whether or not he has superb directorial skills. I'm also a big fan of John Woo, even if MI2 was kind of a poo. There is an old 70's martial arts/sword fight movie that he made that has been showing on Action Channel that friggin rocks. Also, Mel Brooks kicks the tuckus.

How could I forget John Woo; he has some of the most beautiful direction ever. I liked MI2 - it was possibly his most beautifully directed movie yet (and was actually a James Bond movie at heart), and I can't wait for Windtalkers.

I believe you're talking about Lasy Hurrah For Chivalry, which is my thrid favorite Woo movie (My fav is The Killer).

Yes...that is the exact movie I am referring too. Alot of those old 70's martial arts movies kind of grate on me after a few minutes, but this one TOTALLY drew me in. I thought it was great. And to clarify my opinion of MI2, while I found alot of the action sequences to be cool as hell, I found the story a little wanting at times. I certainly see what you mean about it being a Bond movie at heart...hadn't really thought about it before, but it has all the Bond trademarks, i.e. romance, fast cars, etc. All it needed was a character whose name was a delightful pun like everyone's favorite Pussy Galore :P
