Why was numa numa the most iconic newgrounds video taken down? If it were for the copyrighted music, why not just remove the audio? Also the ultimate naruto fanflashes are no longer here either, iconic videos like that should not be removed.

I was just wondering this too; I was actually reading the numa numa wikipedia article and it came up, searched the BBS and you had made this thread minutes ago
In the years since, we've decided it has come time to retire Numa Numa from Newgrounds, as part of our ongoing effort to focus on animation and encourage artists to use the Audio Portal for music.
https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/about-newgrounds/history/stories/numa-numa
whoever made this decision is literally retarded, what the fuck, if it's not because of copyright
i might drop my supporter subscription because of this

Ikr, stuff like this does not make me want to donate to newgrounds.

This is very disturbing....
and disapointing.
You all need to understand that the Internet is becoming more mainstream. It is no longer the wild west it once was. These things happen.
Lol it's not NG'S fault! It's da copyright so huge middle finger to copyright laws!

Exactly, unfortunately the fear of getting sued outweighs freedoms of parodies.
With that being said, few flashes with the song still remain .........

But why can't the audio just be removed and the page remain intact? @tomfulp

I believe there are ways to adjust audio without having the source files. However, that is solely left up to the artists to do that. In this case, I'm sure he'd has more important things to do than to recreate something he did years ago that can still be viewed on youtube.
In this case, it doesn't make sense to do that anyway since he is famous for that ONE particular song. Just putting a random song in the audio portal would be silly and wouldn't match the movements.

We could technically replace the video with a non-audio version but people can just go see it properly on YouTube, where they have already spent BILLIONS (yes billions) of dollars on legal and licensing issues concerning record labels and licensing agencies. Our focus here is on original music, animation, art and games.

Hi @TomFulp
That new NG copyright laws pisses me off! >:(
Other popular, iconic flashes (like "Legend of Miyamoto", "DARE" by Godlimations, "Arms" by Blue2, and even "Crap Game Compilation" by JonBro) were also removed because they have copyrighted music! >:(
By the way, Delaware: Cold Waters P2 contains two songs by Stone Temple Pilots and it wasn't got removed. "Arms" also had song by Stone Temple Pilots and got removed. WHERE'S THE F*CKING LOGIC?! >:(

but Tom, it's the Numa Numa, it's literally history and the phrase "our focus is" is google-level corporate talk. Not just that but it would be nice if you could restore all the other things that have been removed and just mute the audio; there are ways to do that without manually doing anything.

Obviously you haven't read Tom's lecture about "XX years of internet history, gone with just one lawsuit."
A truly prophetic sig...
It's interesting to me that there's so much bitching about things being taken down, but not one of you fucksticks have offered to pick up Newground's legal fees.

Might want to clarify in that wiki page that it was due to copyright that it was removed, the page made it sound like someone had a revelation that Newgrounds was "changing" and that you were removing stuff for no reason

Updated the wiki to specifically note the legal aspect.
Happily ETS'd.
Probably took it down himself when he realised he gets more money off Youtube views.

Tom contacted me when they told me they had to take it down.
It's also not monetized on YouTube because of the song, so I don't make any money from it.
I <3 wearing headphones. I <3 making music. I <3 to numa the night away.

A real unfortunate situation both for Newgrounds and for you, the content creator.

Need to put that on YouTube or something... That also had music issues.

Thank you.
Honestly, I wish we could make like YT and just de-monetize the pages like we do those of songs in the Audio Portal which contain samples they don't have rights to.

..... And that's why I boycott the music industry. 100% percent.
They just make truckloads of money, only to want more. I just turn a blind eye to them - not really blind, just an eyepatch over it.

Really disappointing, fuck this.
"As the old saying goes...what was it again?"
I find it unbelievable...
