Great idea Wade. I was wondering when something like this would be put into place. Hopefully it will make people think twice before submitting crap flashes and free blams. There have just been way too many of them lately.

Well, it's a good idea, but I see one -potentially- huge flaw with it.

This wasn't addressed in your post, so I don't know what your plans are in regards to it, but what's to stop users from just making another account and then unloading the crap again? Seems to me like if people wanted to make "Free Blam Point" Flashes, they'd just unload their two and then crack open another account. Hell, they probably already do that anyway.

i actually think this is a good idea... even though all of my work gets blammed :( but now i will have a reason to make it good so i can stay on my favorite website.

This system seems like it will reduce the total number of new entries each day. All movies that may get blammed are not free blams, some are just ones that need work or people new to Flash, etc... Hopefully there will still be plenty of new entries each day to vote on.

I think this is an excellent idea for obvious reasons.

Great. Hopefully people will think twice about submitting something they know is crap just for the hell of it. Now just to worry about the idiots that make multiple accounts because their shit movie that they know is shit got blammed (instead of their movie being flagged twice and making a new account, their problem before this.)

That ban system is one real good thing the portal needed!

Pornographic entries that have been hand drawn (cartoons) are fine as long as they are properly rated. Not that we're encouraging entries like that!

Ya know... This answers a question I had wanted to know ^__^. Mentally noted, drawn hentai graphics are allowed in flash uncondishonally. If I understand right at least :D

Some users will submit it day after day, like that kirby v.s wing zero that happened last year. If it is submited 2-3 times and still blamed, then it shouldn't be able to be submited ever again, but I don't know how that would work though, just an idea I had.

I hope this will imrpove the quality of
portal enteries over time.

Nah I'm sure what he is saying is that if you have 2 or more entrys BLAMMED in a month you get banned for 15 days not entrys that have passed. It stops the people who keep trying to re submit their flash movies.

The time span during which one can receive the ban seems a bit over the top. Not the 15 day ban, but the month to month time frame.

Just for reference, how exactly are you defining "month"?

If someone gets blammed on, say, 8 July, on what date can they submit something else and get blammed without being banned too?

1 August (calendar month)?
5 August (inclusive 4 week)?
6 August (exclusive 4 week)?
7 August (inclusive dates)?
8 August?
9 August (exclusive dates)?

On another topic, in the Portal Whistle List post regarding the pending (now processed) mass-deletion of flash, you mentioned that we were actually going to get blam points for it this time. Since we haven't gotten any, I'm wondering if this will be like last time you mass-deleted flags (no points for anyone) or if they are going to be allocated in the near future.

This should really cut down on crappy entries. I seems a little unfair, though, for people who just plain suck at flash. Oh well.

I think this new banning system SUCKS... me and my brother share an IP so basically if he submits his crap I GET BANNED... so pretty much NG is turning into "POPULARARTISTSGROUNDS" you took away the batting averages next to the names in the portal and now your taking away blam points pretty much... I have an idea GET RID OF THE BLAM/PROTECT SYSTEM ALL TOGETHER AND PUT THE BATTING AVERAGES BACK UP!

Careful about this. While I don't disagree with the measure, it's this kind of things that earn reputations of "(subject)-nazi". For many people Newgrounds may be just as much about the blam material as it is about the gems.

WOW! hey while we're at it, lets go back to the old NG layout. lets not have batting averages at all! lets let users constantly submit crap for the sole objective of being noticed! in fact, lets all be equal, like the communists! that worked for russia, it can work for NG!
