I pulled an ad company that I think was running some bad ads that auto-redirected people off NG. Let me know if this happens to you after reading this post and if so, what page you were visiting when it happened.

I think it was coming from a 729x90 ad from a particular ad company. It was on game and movie pages and general pages like the forums and wiki.
I use AdBlock but I have always greenlisted NewGrounds in support and loyalty.
I was watching the Tobey McGuire movie by Sexual-Lobster when thirty seconds in the page auto redirected to a ransomware site with porn in the background telling me not to shut down my computer lest my files and credit card information be seized.
Right-click on icon in taskbar and shutdown solved the problem. Happened at approximately 11:45am EST. Tell me if you need anymore information boss. I'm sure you can snag IP address and history information from your end.

Man that is frustrating, since the ad I suspected isn't there anymore. And you're browsing from the US, right? Wonder if there's any chance you could have had the previous ad code cached still. Trying to get it to happen on my end.

I SEEEE YOU if that's the ISP and not where you live that's some nice sea side real estate! simple though you really should use a VPN also if you could go through your history and link the actual URL of the site Tom or someone savvy can use that info so we can get IP's and DNS's to do a little digging to find out who's who and doing what and possibly where if its indeed Ransomware.

I'm proud to say that I am an idiot when it comes to cpmputers!
I dug around a little more in my history right around that time and found and found these URLs:

thank you.
@TomFulp VerosMedia Retention and monetization service on Adblocker and Ublock Origin it comes out as a red warning it looks fishy when I put google to it. and for the second I'm looked into maha-media and I got malware warnings on that google search. for all we know it could be a throwaway setup to get into the bigger ad networks to cast out some malware before getting shutdown. it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.
I have not run into this one yet, however ...
Tom I have to say this isn't the first (or even the second (or third)) time Newgrounds has been hit with bad ads. You really need to be on top of this because it's going to give Newgrounds a bad reputation if this keeps up.
I know you need ads to keep the site running, but you really gotta do your research better or something. Because if everyone knows you get malware ads from Newgrounds, they're either gonna all use ad blockers or stop using Newgrounds altogether.
You literally hurt your site by not thoroughly doing your research.

There is no amount of research that can prevent this - ad companies make deals with third parties to fill ad inventory and sometimes those third parties try to sneak in bad ads. The only solution to this is to not run any ads at all, which I would prefer to do if enough people would become paying supporters.

this. plus there are ways to inject shit during the crosstalk (man-in-the-middle attack) taking advantage of ports and unsecured connections.
This has happened to me a few times before. Was happening like every couple minutes on Saturday while listening to NG Radio. Was considering recording my screen next time to try and catch which ad is causing it.

notice similar links from @Throk
Maybe you can solve this puzzle Tom?
Sorry I don't mean for people to click on these, i tried to turn them into text but idk how to do so
I've sent these to the ad companies that are still suspect. Everyone is back from the holiday weekend now so hopefully it gets solved.
I'm seeing ads below the comment section of a video when viewing it through my phone. I'm not sure if it's the kind of ad NG will have displayed. Is says (You May Like) With six random images being displayed.

Yeah, it never happened to me before, and after reading this post I get it all the time.
Thanks, Tom.

Most often than not they're just fucking with you right

I'll get my dummy computer and keep eyes out. Thanks for the warning, Tom!
I miss the good ol' days when ads were just a picture/gif with a hyperlink.

Hello:
I joined this site to say I get the same redirect...page I was at ->verosmedia->maha-media->spotcenered and mine terminates at a fake Time Warner Survey on kewsurvery.com
It originally only happened when I was on another forum I frequent but then began happening on Yahoo's main page. I've posted requesting help on this problem on the Malware Bytes forum at...
Incredibly perplexing browser redirect - God level expert needed
as I've not been able to find the source of the problem after extensive searching.
If anyone discovers a potential solution to this problem, I would appreciate it if you post it to that page for myself and others with the problem to see.

Crazy to think it could be malware on a bunch of peoples' computers... I still haven't seen it on my end.

Recently (yesterday and today), while waiting for a games to load. My page will redirect through multiple pages to a site claiming I need to update my flash player. "FLASH PLAYER HD"... I cleared my cookies and browsing history and it's just happened again.

I've completely pulled the ad company that I assume would be responsible for these. It's SUPER important to let me know if you get the ads after this post, so that I can bring that company back and try something else.
I wonder if this is related to our recent issues:
http://pacedm.com/2017/05/notrove-malware-killing-ad-network/
Sounds like some massive malware network has infected a lot of ad networks, including Google and AOL. That might be why none of our ad networks seem to be able to find this in their third party pools.
