I need a camcorder

I'm wanting to save up for a new camcorder but the thing is I have no clue about what a good camcorder is. I don't know much about them at all... First I need to know what company would be the best. Cannon, Sony, does anyone know what would be the best route to take? Maybe I just need some help all together... Can someone give me a definition of what a good camcorder should have and then drop me a price range? Feel free to give me a link also.

I want to be able to take stills with it also... I'm not sure if call camcorders give you that capability or not.

Try Amazon as a guide, the user reviews are usually fairly accurate and give a rating.

I'm just the type of guy that is really paranoid when it comes to dishing out lots of money for electronics. There are SO many different choices it stresses the fuck out of me. I re-search my ass off until I find what is the best thing I can possibly get. I'm always worried I will end up spending like 700 bucks when I could have gotten something better for only 450...

I think I want a camcorder that uses DVD instead of tapes.. But they all seem to cost around $1,000 and I don't want to spend that much. What are the major differences in using DVDs to tapes? On the DVD ones is the quality much better or something?

yes dvd uses mpeg2 which is very high quality. You dont really need a DVD one there are some the can record mpeg2 on a memory card. And wont be able to take good pictures with a camcorder. Personally id get two separate ones. I can get you a 3.1 mp camera for $78. But otherwise just go for the cheapest DV (digital video) camera you can. All you need is an LCD, and something that records on memory card. IM me if you really want to get into things (aim = thestaringbunny2)

If you are gonna edit youre movies and stuff (on the computer) get a minidv digital camcorder they work the best.

JVC, Panasonic, or Sony would be the best brand choices. My cannon crapped out after 2 years and it was a good one too. Don't get cannon! Evil!

But about these camcorders once again. Someone mentioned they don't take good stills.. But that is going to be one of the biggest features I want with one. I don't want to spend money on a digital camera.. I would rather just get a camcorder. I'm going to use it to take stills a lot.

I don't know about them.. They look pretty iffy. I've never heard of Mustek either.
