Everybody likes EXP, right? Well, not in these instances. Turns out there are battles where you're simply unable to fully enjoy the EXP given to you. Maybe it was a Final Boss that inexplicably gives EXP just like any other enemy despite The End just being around the corner. Or maybe you had a guest party member with you that's only with you for that one battle despite being give EXP as well. My example comes from FFX in the form of Seymour Guado. He's in your party for only one boss battle and yet still gets AP and Sphere Levels like the rest. At least now you know why he's such a pain in the ass when it's your turn to fight him.

i was thinking about this playing Far Cry 4 recently. almost every first/third person shooter these days tacks on some kind of character progression system that's supposed to give you a sense of growth, but just makes me feel like i'm being held back from doing/having cool stuff til later. the draw of a shooter is shooting. if you're gonna add the RPG tag to your game, do it right and interweave your gameplay mechanics.

Well, if you're a noogai and never played the game, him having no talent points would be a pretty obvious giveaway that he's a temporary squad member. Still, sometimes I like to be sentimental and max him out before he dies so I can at least say he was a decent soldier before he got rekt. LOL.

Lots of RPG's have content after the final boss, so that's why you get EXP when you kill them.

They could have just also not given Shepard or Kaiden talent points and have you level up after he dies.
