No you didn't...

since he is using a mobile device, there are three things he could've done:
1) Go to m.youtube.com, find the video and copy the url of the page, but doesn't embed it,
2) Go to the share button on the same page to get the youtu.be shortened url that embeds the video.
3) Download the youtube app and is forced to share, giving him the shortened embedded url.

The heresy comes in because he said to just take out the m. the m is a sign that it is a mobile device. If he just took out the m, it would change it to youtube without affiliation to the mobile device, nor desktop, much like the youtu.be url. Although it would embed the video, it is unorthodox to strip the m from the url and is therefore, heresy. He should just share the video and use the youtu.be link.
