Scientists from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, have found that by poking holes in the protective envelope surrounding HIV and other viruses, melittin – a toxin found in bee venom – kills the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) while leaving the body unharmed. This breakthrough could lead to drugs that are immune to HIV resistance; development of an anti-HIV vaginal gel that may prevent the spread of HIV; as well as possible treatments for existing HIV infections.

Bees are amazing. They make honey and can help us fight HIV.

The obvious solution is to breed bees and unleash them on HIV carriers.

AFAIK venoms are safe to swallow.

Makes sense since venom is used for digestion.

Bee Venom causes cancer though, so I'll pass.

You can kill of lots of things in a petri dish, but when it comes to fighting a disease or virus in the human body it's a completely different monster.

this is great news. i'm so glad for scientific research of this type. too often it seems researchers and various scientists spend their time basically jerking off and not being productive.

It's a myth came from paranoia because of incidents where some groups were found dead, they ain't going away any time soon.

Bees used to only hurt with stingers, but now they can help us.

That could make the cure by mouth, instead of an injection. Much easier to give children pills instead of a shot.

Also the development into drugs that can be used to help us often takes time, even years and there are fundings needed to help it progress.

Even penicillin wasn't made immediately after one of the substances used to make the drug was discovered.
