I seem to have an automatic "kill switch" which prevents me from becoming (permanently) addicted to most things.
It's like I'm into something, and then a few days later I'm completely repulsed by it.

Wow. You might be the only person to ever have masturbated just once.
Also I bet you eat just one potato chip and then you're done.

What part of "most things" and "after a few days" do you not understand?
And it's interesting that you mention chips...
I would buy bags of one or more kind and eat them for a while, until one day when I just stop eating them altogether: That is until I regain interest in chips several days later.

There were times when I thought I was through with him. But whenever I thought I was ready to move on, the though of permanently losing him would kick in, and then I would do everything I can not to breakup.
Yeah, long-term relationships are really hard to break out of.

Sorry, my English isn't so good.

I don't think that's so much of an addiction "kill-switch" so much as your addictions hibernate occasionally.

Being a former ESL student, mine isn't perfect either.

Aren't real addictions like always-on and full of withdrawal symptoms?

is this self control or is this addiction
i struggle to understand the difference between the two
everything, all the time, even if it becomes bad for you.
Actually, I'm studying CDC ( Chemical Dependency Counseling) The concept of Addictive personalities is a bit of a myth. Addiction strikes a wide range of people with vast differences when it comes to personal traits.
Opiates aren't really personality based. Its the receptors in your brain that crave more and more.
I've been somewhat fortunate. I've come close to addiction but my body makes it so that whatever I crave becomes unpleasant. Alcohol started giving me headaches, I'm asthmatic, so I can't smoke.
Everything in moderation.
So you all dont' have to say it...

can you please tell me about nature versus nurture then sir because you have missed one very big section of addiction
I thought this thread was going to be about personalities that you're drawn to. Because I can't stay away from those alt/pixie girls.

You should though. It's a great aesthetic.

I now just noticed that It looks like I only half posted what I was writing from earlier. I dug around a little bit and found where I was posting on 3 different threads earlier and got interrupted. Here's the gist of what I was trying to say.
*From earlier*
I've been somewhat fortunate. I've come close to addiction but my body makes it so that whatever I crave becomes unpleasant. Alcohol started giving me headaches, I'm asthmatic, so I can't smoke.
**This part went missing**
My family has about a 25% addiction rating. Quite a few of them smoke or drink and I was raised around it but no one ever got shitfaced so I learned moderation and how to drink properly ( If I could).
Getting back to you about the Nature Vs. Nurture:
My actual book studies don't get into Nature Vs. Nurture as my first year is aiding in recovery and the Nature Vs. Nurture lies more with prevention. (That's more around the later lessons which I haven't reached yet.)
In my personal studies, I've read and studied different concepts of addiction and how people get addicted.
From a personal standpoint, I feel that it falls to a midpoint. I've known people that were born to bad backgrounds that were adopted by upstanding families free from addiction that raised them with few issues. I've also seen it the other way around, A family with good upbringing that leaves a child with a family with issues with crime and addiction and they don't fare well.

those with addictive personalities tend to get addicted to things earlier than those without, either for long period or short periods of time, addictions would include lack of self control with things like eating habits, playing video games, relationships/sex, grinding certain hobbies non stop
Doing things because you're addicted, they may not even bring you that sense of joy they gave you once. But you still do them

I prefer to not fit in to some aesthetic trend

Pretty sure we're all susceptible to what others do. Sure, some people have had a stark, lackluster upbringing, which makes them prime targets to try out new behaviors... but just like any good lie, the more it presents itself, the more it becomes true

Just wanted to make sure my gray matter gibed w/ the internet consensus of the definition. And since I went through the trouble to do that, I spammed the link here.

It really depends, sometimes I'm opsessed with people who are always hyped and positive but other times I really like laid back people. If you love me, I'll love you back. That's probably why I like so many people.
