I was just wondering: who here has heard of and/or likes salmiakki? And what does it really taste like? Need opinions because I just got 3 packs of salmiakki (2 in different packaging bags and 1 in a small paper box) delivered to me from one of my Facebook friends from Finland. Haven't tried yet. but all I know is that some are spicy , and some are not. Also never had black licorice before in my entire life.

im finnish and it tastes awful, i think it was originally meant to be used as medicine but for some reason its sold as candy even though it tastes bitter and terrible.

I think it's OK, definitely better than black licorice in my opinion... Tastes kinda salty because basically it's just licorice and ammonium chloride.

It was originally used as medicine. Just tried a few pieces of it, and it tastes okay. I prefer using salmiakki for medicine, instead of just candy to pig out on.

Some salmiakki does taste like shit, some is really good. It annoys me when some taste just one type of it and then bitches how it's so bad.
To put it simple, it tastes sort of like a salty licorice, sweet and salty, odd combo. There is a shitload of videos on youtube of foreign people tasting it, usually they dislike it though.
