How do I open a .fla file? Everytime I try to, it says unexpected file format
You might be trying to open a file that was made with a version of flash that's newer than the one you're using to open it. Flash isn't forward-compatible because adobe changes something about the file format with each new version, though you can open cs6+ files in cs5.5 so I guess they've finally learned from that.
If this is the case, to open it you're going to need to find someone with the version of flash it was made in (or get it yourself) and save it as the version of flash you're trying to open it with. Each version of flash can save as the previous two versions, so you might need to do this multiple times to get to your version, depending on which versions they are.
