You know most of the stuff on newgrounds have the wrong genre tag. You go to listen to a trance tune, and it sounds nothing of the sort AT ALL.
REAL detroit techno may not be all about mashing notes on a keyboard, but the melodies in the "hardcore techno" you are referring to is only about mashing random notes on a keyboard. Within a scale ofc. Pretty much all techno producer will tell you that XD. Not saying it's a bad thing, I love techno.

If you want to make good techno synths I would advice you to get Massive or Sylenth1, but if you only want to use the stock plugins you can follow this tutorial which shwows you how to make a basic growl synth in sytrus, and then it should be pretty easy to tweak it to your needs:

btw, I completely agree to ectisity for this. Excluding minimal and other mixed genres, hardcore techno is really all about mashing random piano keys. Keitomine, he's not talking anything about piano, I guess he meant mashing midi keyboard without much velocity variations for the lead and synths.
