Games That Ruined Their Franchises

Which video game franchises got ruined the most by their most recent games?

The few latest installments of Tony Hawk games are pretty bad.

Resident Evil also took a downfall, too. I do think that Resident Evil 6 is decent, even though a lot of people hate it, but Operation Raccoon City sucked. I also think that Resident Evil Revelations one and two were unnecessary.

What do you think, NG?

The 3rd Birthday and Silent Hill: Downpour.

Fallout 4

It's not necessarily a bad game, in fact I think alone it's a great open world game, but it isn't a 'fallout' game. Now any sequels to Fallout are guaranteed to be based on the same mechanics and the future of the series is fucked.

The last great Tenchu game was the third one, Wrath of Heaven, which came out 13 years ago. Fatal Shadows came after that and I didn't care for it, but maybe enough people did. The games since then have been received really badly, though, except apparently one for Wii in 2009 that did so-so, I guess?

I can't believe I didn't think of this. I hate that they keep making new Pokemon games with crappier designs each game.

Why don't you like it? I love it, but it's the only Thief game I've played. I actually thought it was the first in a series because it's just titled "Thief".

Did you not like that they made a new character or what?

Its funny that you talk about the fourth goddess and stuff.
I got this friend who is super into Zelda games but he is always a fail artist when it comes to talking about games.
Instead of accepting facts for facts he takes them makes up his own opinions using facts as his support as to why he is right.
I mean I forgot about what the fuck he was talking about long ago cause I really don't give a fuck.
But its good to see that someone else noticed this game has some continuity issues.
Also, he enjoys the fact that Link and Zelda have a relationship thing going on.
But that's fucked up too, cause isn't Zelda supposed to be Link's sister.

Anyways, the combat was ok imo, but I can see why you think it sucks.

metroid prime.

Again, same thing.
Motherfucker just cant accept things.
Also, no bikini babe easter egg for beating the game.
Zero suit samus is soo much of a cock tease, but its no bikini clad samus.

Sadly, I can't think of anymore.

resi 5 was pretty fun,for what it was....a more actiony re4,but resi 6 is when the franchise was diving into shit....that and the operation racoon city game....goes to show that they cared more about action instead of their survival horror roots....

I dunno why K2 apparently couldn't keep it together after such a good game and made several bombs after it. From Software took over development and did worse than the game before it. From Software, the Souls people. The latest one is the first Tenchu game Aquire has made since Tenchu 2 and it looks like it was better received than all of the entries since Fatal Shadows. But... Wii controls. And instead of selecting from 3 characters, the story has you play both Ayame and Rikimaru at different levels. I dunno if I'm too convinced from videos I'd want to try it.

As for Duke Nukem, it would be sweet if Bethesda + id Software/MachineGames took that shit.

I guess the New Rollercaoster Tycoon World is horrible.
Luckily the team behind the first three RCT games is working on a new game called PlanetCoaster.

Every GTA after San Andreas is shit.

Breath of Fire V killed the the entire franchise.
I wish this series came back

Any Sonic game is crap after Genisis.
This series needs to end.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, was a fun game but just didn't live up to the standards of the first two.
I wish to see this series continued, but I'm pretty sure it's done.

-Jak 2. I'll never understand the fascination with taking kid-friendly mascot characters, and giving them weapons and making them swear. Jak 2 ruined the fun tone that Precursor Legacy had created.
-Tie between New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Maker. On one hand, we may never see another unique Mario platformer again. On the other hand, we may never see another Mario platformer at all because we can just make our own.
-Starfox Command. But when your series has more reboots than sequels it may as well be dead at birth.
-That Megaman X iPhone app destroyed any chance of Megaman coming back. Although that was definitely sabotage.

I don't know about it not making any sense, but it's definitely turning into Frankenstein's video game. We've got Mega Evolution, Primal Reversion, and now Trainer x Pokemon fusion. Leaks are hinting that Sun & Moon will have a quest system and you'll be able to complete your pokedex by scanning QR codes. All the while making single player so easy that you have to handicap yourself for any sort of challenge.

I don't think that it ruined the Spyro franchise, but it was definitely a downgrade from Ripto's Rage. Collecting all of those eggs eventually felt like more of a chore than anything. I also hated those Sparx missions.

I know I'll probably get shit for this, but it's also been said a lot;

Resident Evil 4

the over the shoulder targeting system felt awkward at best, and it stopped being survival-horror and just went shooter.
Then again, I really didn't play a lot of it. The gameplay turned me off so much I just had to stop.

And, even though I like it, I guess we could add Chrono Cross to this.

Missions are all the same, it's just bland that way.
GTA games were one of the few games that were actually fun to cheat on and this one the cheats suck.
The storyline as boring, and the characters are all one dimensional.

Not at all, but if that's how you see it, okay.

GTA games were one of the few games that were actually fun to cheat on and this one the cheats suck.

I've never tried cheating on GTA 5, but I'll take your word for it.

The storyline as boring, and the characters are all one dimensional.

If you think the storyline is boring, didn't you ever try out all of the Strangers and Freaks missions? Some of those are pretty good.

I can agree with Michael being one dimensional, but Franklin's all right and Trevor's the bomb, even though he's batshit crazy.

I mostly agree with you. Assassin's Creed Black Flag is amazing. I never expected to love an Assassins Creed game as much, if even more, than Assassins Creed 2.

Resident evil 4 was both one of the best games in the franchise and sent it down a dark path.

Bubsy 3D
Dead Space 3
Skylanders (Killed Spyro pretty much)
Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant (Killed Crash Bandicoot for awhile)
Mass Effect 3
Driv3r
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5
Red Faction Armageddon
Dino Crisis 3
Mario Party 9 (Didn't ruin it per say, but it seems the car mechanic is going to be there for awhile)
The Sims 4
Sonic Boom (Sonic 06 started a slew of shit, but it picked up again, and then Sonic Boom made it go back down again)
Megaman X6

That's all I can think of right now.
