Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima reportedly said in a new interview that the company will release a new movie in the next 2-3 years.

Should Nintendo stick to video games, or go into movies?

The company should, without a doubt, sick to games and shut the FUCK up with regards to movies or ANY other avenue for franchisement.

The Wii U will be regarded as a failure. But not because of anything to do with the hardware. Purely because they decided to stop supporting it and releasing good titles for it.

The NX will be regarded as a big FUCK YOU to Nintendo loyals. And if they don't support it with lots of great first and second party titles, the company will be dead with regards to how it is seen in the video game industry.

As for movies? Lol. Maybe after Assassin's Creed flops, (which it will and you agree if you saw the trailer and aren't incredibly stupid) they will not make movies.

I don't believe Nintendo will go this route.

∀x (∃e (e ∈ x ∧ ∀x ¬(x ∈ e)) ∨ ∃y ¬∃e (e ∈ x ∧ ¬∃z (z ∈ y ∧ z ∈ e ∧ ∀x ¬((x ∈ y ∧ x ∈ e) ∧ ¬(x = z)))))

The Mario Bros. film, if I remember correctly, was left in the hands of idiots who knew nothing of the series and made no effort to learn. I don't think Nintendo actually did anything to help with its production, either. The Wizard was, obviously, just 90 minutes of advertisement, but it did the job exceedingly well. I knew I wanted SMB3 after I first saw it.

It has been a long while, and I doubt Nintendo could do worse, so, yeah, I'd like to see a new film. Just one though. Let's pretend they have the good sense not to waste time and money on another if the first one flops.

Okay, You think they should not try making a movie.

Assassin's Creed should not do well. The movie looks poor.

I just hate video game movies. No company ever "gets it". They try to Hollywood-ify something that really shouldn't be messed with.

I challenge anyone who disagrees with me, to tell me a single good movie based on a video game, except Silent Hill.

The Wizard was a good film that promoted SMB3.

We will see how well the Nintendo films do with the audience.

The only thing that sorta worked was Tomb Raider movies "Til that reboot game movie came out :D"
But i just hope to see more Nintendo titles, but to be honest looking back Nintendo wasnt better than Genesis or Playstation 1 to be honest. Just my personal opinion in terms of how good Genesis games still look with the exception of Donkey Kong Country which is more fun level so i dont care how pixalated that looks.

But i hope to see if Nintendo can just come up with new titles or games or continuation!. I have a bad feeling about the idea of making it into a phone concept of NX, either way i'll wait and see. Its not like PS4 or Xbox One have much games currently either way. But would be interesting to see.

Graphics in games have nothing to do with how a video game movie will look.

We will all have to wait and see which game or character they use if the first films.

Super Mario Bros was an excellent movie. I believe Nintendo has what it takes to pull that off again.

That film was not made by Nintendo.

My memory is rather shitty, but I believe it was an issue of Nintendo Power where one reader demanded Nintendo to say, at least, one nice thing about that film, because it was one he actually enjoyed. If I remember correctly, the response he got was something along the lines of "It was only 90 minutes long."

I didn't understand what was going on when I first watched the movie, because it clearly wasn't about the video game, but I did enjoy hearing "Walk the Dinosaur" again. I know it's a terrible song, but I still listen to it.

I just mean that they have aged worse. There are good ones like Star Fox on SNES, but exceptions more or less. Whenever i play a SNES game on HD screen, even with Scart it looks like utter horrid. But when i put scart on my PS1, it looks like pure heaven on my HD screen, even though the system is really old!

My opinion is that games should try to be less like a movie in terms of new games and more like a game in terms of game experience, they did that better i think in the 90s, although the PS2 had some gold but not as many as PS1.

Just try to compare Tomb Raider 1 on PS1 and the new rebooted Tomb Raider games, which one feels more like playing a game and feeling game experience of exploring, and which one feels more like you are in a movie, and the fact that picking up two guns was always fun when i had too but it was mostly for self defense and the idea of exploring and looking around was all i needed, so amazing more or less in terms of that type of design in terms of experience, Lara simply was just cool more or less. The newer of course feels obviously more like a movie. Thats my issue more or less that every game now has to be like a movie : I

Yes, games should be less like movies. They should be more about gameplay and fun.

With the focus on cut scenes and Quick time events, the game play seems to less important.

There have already announced the films ,so we will see what happens.

Best do a television series than pull the risk of dumping their budget down the drain....

A TV series could work well.

They can always try...

If I remember correct, Nintendo has had their own taxi service and loads of other shit trough their long history, so making movies is really nothing surprising from them.

As for the people here mentioning the super mario movie... I thought we all agreed such thing has never, ever happened...

IT NEVER HAPPENED

Yes, Nintendo has had many different companies and businesses through the years.

Companies that create video games should devote more time to creating video games or improving their current video games, and less time creating movies.

They really should just stick to games. I like them alot more than movies, and that's what they've been good at. Also after the financial failure that was the Wii-U, they kinda need to play catch-up and get back on track.

I agree with you. It would be nice for Nintendo to make great video game movies. Like what Marvel did to the Super hero movies.

That trailer really did suck. The action just looked so cheesy. Maybe (hopefully) I'm wrong, but part of me just knows it's going to get torn apart by critics. I'm curious to see how it will do at the box office though. From what I've seen a lot of people are still excited for it.

There have been many cheesy and lame films involving video games. It would be awesome, if Nintendo could succeed where others have failed.

So I wanted to make a topic about what movies Nintendo could make after the Mario movie, but I decided to search and see if anyone else had made that topic already, and I found this, so I'll go ahead and bring this thread back from the dead. Looking through here, boy the vibes around Nintendo and movies were different back in 2016. Suffice to say, after the Sonic movies and the Mario teaser, people are a lot more welcoming of video game movies.

Back to what I wanted to discuss. Obviously, there's the Mario movie, which at least looks better than most of us were expecting, and Nintendo recently bought out a 3D animation studio, the one that did those Pikmin short films from years back. So there is a lot more reason to speculate about Nintendo movies than before.

What movies would you like to see Nintendo make? Hot take here: I think Star Fox has a lot of potential for a movie.

Failing over and over doesn't make you a failure. The only failures are the ones who don't try.

Well there's the Postal Movie, but I'm not sure that counts. That's my own opinion on this... I don't know on any other movie to be honest, some old farts or experts in that field understand videogames at all.

Alright, I’ll bite this one time.

Nintendo did buy the rights to a porno parody of Mario but that’s was mainly because they don’t want the integrity of their IPs to be violated. Not exactly a situation I would call relevant to either this movie or the other one from the 90s.

though the 90’s super mario bros movie looked like ass from what I have seen but you can blame people who didn’t know what the series was about or do their research into it.

Youtuber Spawn Wave gave a pretty good take on this recently. Here

If you don't have 10 minutes to watch that, here's a summary. TV shows and movies are much cheaper to make than games nowadays, so companies can take more risks. If a show is good, that audience will almost always check out the games that go with it. See Cyperpunk Edgerunners for a good example. A lot of companies, like Sony and Sega, are beginning to catch on to this, and are pushing for more shows, and Nintendo is among them. We could be looking at a major shift in the whole industry right now, not just Nintendo.

The Mario movie has been very controversial, to say the least.

Star Fox could work as a movie. I would enjoy seeing a well-made The Legend of Zelda movie.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing more quality video game TV shows and movies. The trick is they have to be entertaining, which can be tricky to pull of sometimes.
