Global Communications was brought about by science fiction, it's true. Arthur C. Clarke (2001: A Space Oddessy) thought up the ideas of satellites - without which we'd be fucked. Science Fiction has brought some great advances.
So you are telling me that without Sir Clarke, no-one would have dreamed up satalites?
no, the problem is is that all those really smart geeky scientists aren't creative enough to think up these concepts on there own
Sweaping generlization(s.p). I know a scientist with an imagination.
:, we wouldn't get anywhere in the more extreme parts of science if it weren't for science-fiction, and
a lot of old science-fiction movies like james bond are now pretty acurate as far as the science goes on some parts
I know that i'm splitting hairs now but when was James Bond ever called Sci Fi?
, also
the term science-fiction was coined by i think victor hugo, who the hugo awards were named after, and he called them that because they were suposed to be based on the author's knowledge of science-fact, LOTR and all of it's clones are considered fantasy
At least somebody got it right.

hey leap james bond is sci-fi, it's just not as flashy and nerdy as the other things so you don't think of it, a lot of the gadgets and stuff can't be made and some of the themes also are impossible, take the newest one, die another day, the way they changed that guy's face and the fact that he can't sleep is pretty impossible today, but maybe thirty years from now it could be, if you watch some old ones then maybe in some scenes you'll say to yourself, hey that's definately impossible and maybe in others you'd say, hey that could totally happen today, how did they know about that
the picture below is of my favorite science fiction author, Philip Jose Farmer
