30 day portrait challenge

Hey there guys! It's been a year since I last posted something on the forums.
2015 has been a tough year and I only drew a couple pieces over the course of an entire year.

Now, in order to discipline myself and make sure I keep doing what I love most, I will be painting/sketching one portrait a day in max 2 hours. once the timer hits 2 hours I have to stop immediately and leave everything as is and call it a day.

I am currently on day 7 and I'll be updating this thread until I finish!

This is really good! I really like this piece a lot for only working on it for 2 hours. You have a great style and im really liking the highlights and lighting, and im interested in seeing the rest of what you bring this month. Good luck!

You have a really nice shading style. I thought the highlights on the upper lip looked a little weird though.

I totally agree, I don't know how I didn't notice this when I was making it.

Today a portrait/fan-art of Lelei La Lalena from the anime GATE. I tried to make her look more mature and more fierce than she normally does, even though It doesn't really look like here anymore... not really happy with the outcome :/

Good work so far, few people who start these kinds of challenges have the motivation to finish them. One of the most important things you are probably learning with this sort of exercise is time management. From what i am seeing in all of your images here, you are spending the most time on the eyes/nose/mouth and ultra refining them to make an attractive looking face but it lacks some basic construction principals which you are covering with shoddily rendered long hair, remember that a portrait is more than drawing pretty eyes/mouth/nose. Allocate your time to fleshing out the structure of the skull/head/neck/shoulders and be more conservative in your time spent on adding needless details in the face. You of course are free to discard my opinion entirely but bluntly stated I would admire/respect a solidly constructed figure with anatomy and blocked out planes of the face more so than carefully rendered eyes/lips/nose with little thought on the rest of the pieces of the figure. Try a portrait of a woman with very short hair and spend time on her shoulders/neck and ear placement, if you want a real challenge add an arm with a hand or something, you've already clearly demonstrated your ability to paint a face in the time limit so its time to challenge yourself if you are spending too much time messing around with colors consider painting in black and white so you can flesh out/refine the figure more. Also you should post the ones you painted before you made this thread here in this thread for posterity, for when you finish you'll have a thread with the full collection.
