I think it will. Which makes me wonder:

@TomFulp @RealFaction This is probably a complete and utter stretch, but I wonder if a game jam sort of thing could tie in with Pixel Day? If it encourages more people to take part because of their hopes of scoring a video game of any kind, I don't know.

Thinking a game jam on Pixel Day weekend? Maybe if we had it on a Sunday, we could have a jam that starts Friday night... We could even have the music portion due on Thursday so jammers could select from Pixel Day music entries for their games... That could be the one big constraint besides using pixel art...

Very thrilled to have made it into the winners. From what I can tell it must have been very close since some of the more impressive entries that I saw didn't make it in at all. Also didn't have time to check out the other categories yet so I still have that to look forward to!

Personally I'm against that idea simply because while I used to love game jams, it simply rushes games and pumps out lower quality games for the most part. I personally would rather have people take their time. I'd rather have higher quality games than a challenge to pump out lower quality games in a few days. It's too much pressure imo. Don't get me wrong, some game jam games are good, but it's chancy.

On top of that, not as many people can participate due to busy work schedules so you'd see less games and wouldn't be fair to people who want to be a part of Pixel Day.

That is a fair point, actually. A lot of Pixel Day has been made by people who have taken their time to produce stuff just for the day, even if it meant preparing like, a month beforehand.

I guess when it comes to NG holidays, we've got to keep them and game jams separate. No other big NG event has this, so we might as well keep it untouched, if you will.

Man I had a quick look at most of the entries and they were at such good quality! Congrats to the winners, that metroidvania map was amazing, I loved that!

Pity I couldn't get stuff done in time, but next year I'll mark it on my weeks to take off :D

Aww thank you @Phyrnna <3 I'm honored that so many people like it, im happy that this idea worked out, I really thought it out and it's thanks to Tom for executing this idea. Excited for AIM? Think you can judge this year again? :)

You don't have to wait that long! :) There are other contests to enter this year like Pico Day, and others I may not be aware of before the Art Inspired Music Contest (3rd annual AIM contest) happening in late May hopefully, I'm still ironing out the details with Tom. So look forward to that! It will run for two months and it's gonna be big! There's also the NGADM (Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch) not held by me but, i think it was Step? That's an audio tournament that goes on for quite some time as well every year! :) thanks everyone!

There are also smaller contests going on.

@Phyrnna has a Valentine's Day contest going on in the Art Forums at the moment, and I HEARTILY encourage people to participate.

@Samulis, from time to time, hosts Deserted Island contests, which are basically contests with restrictions on what sorts of plugins you can use to make your songs.

@SkyeWint holds the NG Music Triathlon -- I'm not sure which time of the year this takes place in, but it's there. Like the Deserted Island contests, there are restrictions or conditions to making your songs, but it's basically a series of three rounds.

@TaintedLogic holds the NG Audio Underdogs Competition around the same time the Audio Deathmatch takes place.

And if there's a game jam on NG, staff will let us know in the NG News.

Also, keep on the lookout for Ludum Dare -- I think there are two, or three, per year?

Ha! You're more aware than I am! I don't dabble in the forums much with my time as I don't have as much as I would like, but I am trying to be more active in the forums. Quite informative :)

I haven't covered animation contests though.... I'm not really familiar with them.

I must enter something for Pico Day this year! Totally felt bad I couldn't do anything last year.

Yanno Newgrounds should totally become a publisher or something, I'd be totally happy publishing out a game and giving a share to ol' NG to keep it going and helping with greater prize-funds/events!

I feel like we're in an age where people shouldn't need publishers anymore, although there are still some benefits to using one if they do a really good job. I would be concerned about not being able to bring enough marketing to be of value, since most devs ultimately seem disappointed by the marketing they are promised by their publishers.

That's kind of true, I've managed to seen both sides of having a publisher and not. I guess I've been lucky with mine as they're doing an awesome job at marketing but I've seen some serious horror stories first hand.

Ah well, just thought. I know ad revenue is no-where like it used to be and everything seems to be YouTube or Steam now-a-days and it sucks :(.

No, actually. Those are two independent clauses that can stand on their own merit as sentences if a period had been used instead. Ergo, no grammar error. Might not have been what you'd have chosen...but that doesn't make it incorrect.

For my latest experiment, I went the entire month of January without going to this website at all. I was still selected for monthly voting.

So... I'll say again that maybe we should move to a system that selects people based on how many nominees they've viewed.
