warning: if you're not a fan of TL;DR stuff then feel free to skip this one :p
I always heard about Newgrounds from since I was still a high school freshman. If I had only realized that NG has a big art community in it then I would have probably joined the fray. Back in 2010 (my junior high school year), I picked up drawing for the first time but I had no idea where to post my stuff. I went through many places ranging from GFX websites to random art sites. Eventually, I found DeviantArt, and made an account there. It was quite a short amount of time until I gave up on drawing and continued doing small graphics in the GFX forums I've stayed in.
On 2013, I gave up doing GFX after realizing that it wasn't what I truly wanted in life (it was totes fun though). I decided to get back into drawing. However, it was really TOUGH starting out, like what any other beginner sketcher experiences. Over the years, I got better at it. I posted a few of my works on DeviantArt in the process.
Unfortunately, I decided to slip into hiatus that lasted well throughout 2015, due to family problems and full-time work as a student. With 2016 running, I decided that I will make my return into the field of illustration once again. This time, things will be different for me as I do my hardest to improve my skills a heck of a lot more. My dream is to become a professional illustrator for a video game company. Sounds cheesy, right? Fuck it, it's what I wanted all along in my life. I believe it isn't too late for me to establish myself as such.
To start the year off, I began searching for an art community where I can post my stuff and get help/comments from other fellow artists. Not like DeviantArt (it's more a Social Networking site for what it is), but more like CGSociety, DrawCrowd or ConceptArt.org. The latter sites are cool, but they're a bit too overwhelming (lol I'm not a professional artist.....yet). I tried revisiting old GFX sites...only to find out they've all shut down a long time ago.
For the first time in 6 years I finally visited Newgrounds once again. Man, it looks cool and lively as always, and most importantly.......it's still ACTIVE. Like I mentioned earlier, a lot of the forums I used to stay in are already dead by now, but NG is still alive and kickin' ass.
I'm definitely going to invest more time in this community. I'm planning on my return to illustration this March. By then I will revive my inactive DeviantArt account and I'll be filling my Newgrounds profile with lots of my stuff.
P.S.: I'm a big fan of Jazza from YouTube, but I didn't know he was a member in Newgrounds (for a long time too), so that was quite the surprise for me. I follow a lot of artists on DeviantArt, maybe some of them probably have accounts in here.
