What would be a suitable engine besides Unity3d or Unreal to make a First Person RPG, you know like King's Field or Elder Scrolls?

Game Maker can do some wonderful stuff in psuedo-3d. Get the feel of one of the first elder scrolls. Real 3-d on GM looks like n64 polygons at best though, so i wouldn't delve into that. Of course there is always the old fashion way.
