Does newgrounds no longer have a store? When did this happen?
I saw a post on reddit of a shirt - http://imgur.com/gpqIH8p - that reminded me of a tankman shirt that Newgrounds used to sell.

"Heads up everyone, the store will officially close on February 27th!"

Thanks. Seems kinda crazy seeing as shirt sales seems to be the way youtubers/podcasters make large portions of their revenue. I guess I should have actually bought things back in the day.

Youtubers don't run the site the upload their content to though and presumably they stores are all managed by something like cafepress, rather than being custom run as the NG store was.

Not really, see roosterteeth, DLB/flagnorfail, omarisuf/raskol etc.
Having run a custom store for so long though the costs/profits should have been better than using a 3rd party.
Also, why didn't newgrounds evolve into being a large youtube channel like roosterteeth?
Surely that would have been a successful model for them.

yeah, making money and being successful really sucks.

20 years of rebellion against everything are not something you can just leave behind. It's kind of its own form of success.

Newgrounds wants to be different from the rest, that's one of the things that draws me to this site.

Now, don't get me wrong
I haven't put much research into this
And anything is possible if you put your mind to it
But
Uploading and playing Games on YouTube is incredibly hard to do.

1. Make games for android/iphone and promote them on youtube.
2. "Letsplay" style videos of newgrounds games.
3. Move to developing games for mobile, promote them on youtube.
4. Other content, animations, shorts, podcasts, etc.

There are already a few games here that can be played on android, a few of them have Youtube gameplay trailers and such.
2. "Letsplay" style videos of newgrounds games.
I really don't want Newgrounds to become full of let's plays like Youtube.

Podcasts are already a thing and animations/shorts are already a NG staple, no?
