Patriot Act Filibuster

So Rand Paul has been talking for over 7 hours straight. Why? To prevent the renewal of the patriot act. Basically if he manages to keep talking until tomorrow afternoon, the Patriot Act will expire. Aside from that, he'll set a record for the longest filibuster in the history of US congress if he succeeds. As stupid as it is that filibusters are a legitimate part of politics, it's for a good reason and I admire someone with enough dedication to talk for over 24 hours with no bathroom breaks for a cause they believe in.

Even some of the folks that wrote it seem troubled by the interpertations that the government has come up with.

Sounds interesting, hope it succeeds. Even if not it's amusing that the way it is set up means they must listen to what he is saying like this and not just silence him.

I think the Patriot act has its place.... but the government lately has beeing doing unconstitutional things by interpreting the patriot act differently than intended.

As someone already stated, even the writer of the Patriot Act never intended for it to be used the way it is being used today.

The problem is that the US government is controlled by corporate oligarchies who want to enslave humanity. About a thousand people are making all the decisions for 300 million Americans, and, surprise, they make decisions that keep them in control. We're losing liberties hand over foot because of this system.

Not sure, I'm still searching around. All the news(so far as I've seen) is about how Rand filibustered the Patriot Act, not if it was renewed.

We are currently taking your route and taking away people's privacy, reinstalling conscription, and suppressing other liberties because of a threat.

In your case it was terrorism, in our case it's Russia.
