You know good music of that type? Music from the day. When they had to make things sound great with a lack of resources and not in the present day when trying to make things sound worse with a huge amount of resources.
The NES Megaman soundtracks are almost all fantastic. 2 being the best.

Chiptune music doesn't sound worse. It's just another way of producing music.
That's like saying that recording a song without a full orchestra makes the music sound worse. Yes, we have large, elaborate orchestras, but most choose to create music with a few, select (often far less expensive) instruments rather than have a room full of people playing at once. It's not a step backwards in music, it's just another way of making it.
I mostly listen to artists from 8bitpeoples. Sabrepulse, Radlib, Yerzmyey, Mr. Spastic and so on are really good. There's much more, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Check em out!
