Full story here. Short story: was on my bike doing a training ride and got smashed by a car that didn't see me.

The impact broke my forearm, collar bone in four pieces, several ribs, and collapsed a lung. I have since been discharged from the hospital (with lots of pain killers) and seem to be doing fine.

Lesson: just assume you're invisible and everyone driving is an idiot and about to commit a parody on idiocy.

No need, insurance covers that. Only need to sue if they are uninsured, or don't have enough insurance.

I ran my bike into a parked car once.

at least you got some painkillers out of it but getting hit by a car is so not worth it

I hit a car the other day and the car is still in the repair shop.

I truly empathize for you my friend. I was on the bus the other day and felt the full force of a car hitting us at 60 mph. fortunately i was in a bus, so we were just knocked over, but I learned very quickly just how much force and inertia a car carries. youre a beast for that.

Ha thanks, I think I'll heal up just fine...problem is when I'm supposed to stop taking narcotics. I don't look forward to feeling things again.

Honestly, the last time I was hospitalized for a nasty trauma (and I mean, really nasty), I ended up taking myself off the painkillers prematurely just because I hated feeling like a zombie. I'd honestly rather feel the pain. Lets me know I'm still alive.

New York City. Bike lanes have become more common. But they're being used mostly by people in cars who are in a rush.

Judging by the point of impact, (a-pillar and driver's door) it looks like you hit the car not the other way around.

Darwinism at its finest.

I hope you are held liable for the damages.

If some fucking moron rode his bike into my car and fucked it up like that I'd sue the fuck out of him.

Good luck trying to sue someone after crashing your car into oncoming traffic. Your attorney would have a rough time vs 100 / 0 liability police report.

Regardless, that's not how the claims process works anyways. You don't sue anything or anyone for damages or injuries that are covered by insurance.

I read your story.... the car turned left as you barreled through the intersection and you hit it.

Where I come from, bicycle riders must obey traffic laws the same as everyone else.

That includes stopping at an intersection and observing the right of way.

Also, it is true that his insurance insurance will repair the vehicle no problem.
(they will pay for vehicle repair nomatter who is at fault)

...but forcing a claim to go through on someone's insurance is another thing. Since it was a collision involving a non-motorized vehicle/pedestrian his insurance would be forced to cover the damages and when that happens it is usually followed by hiked insurance rates, and accidents lower the value of your vehicle repaired or not.

You also must pay your deductable on the repair.

...and on top of that there is also the hassle of waiting for your vehicle to have its repairs finished.

Like I said. I would sue your fucking dumb ass.

For the deductable, for the increased insurance rates, for putting an accident on my driving record, for lowering the value of my vehicle, for putting me through the entire situation.
