It's his decision. It almost always is the users who choose to have their posts deleted.
I noticed that I lose posts sometimes, I just assumed that it was because old topics may have been deleted.

I think it's easy to tell when you lose a chunk of posts. I don't care about the number of posts, but I do like having access to content. I like going back through older threads, so it's annoying when it gets pruned. Especially since a lot of the older threads have deleted users, but their posts are still there.
